Because there is fewer people spending money on having other people (me) build/restore their cars I actually have time to work on my own car. Got most of the floor structure in this week and started channelling today on my '50 F1, now if I could find a way to make some money to pay to get my flathead from the builder I could get it to run.

For the moment, gives me some time to actually work on it for a change. Just hope the **** doesn't go too far and mean I might be living in it down the road. That's the scary part.

  5. arrrrgh dont ask!!!:( i can only afford to pay my bills and thats it. no funds to buy the stuff that i need to finish the car. i ahd a radiator built but could not afford to pay for it so they sold it.:( dont have enough money for my rear tires:( so the car has been sitting there makin me depressed because i can not work on it.:( thanks for making me sad crackernutz lol:p

The only way the recession has effected me is cheaper gas.

  7. I like cheap gas, and I just got my largest raise ever. What recession? Kill your television.

My job is fine, I am still broke, but less broke with cheap gas. Last year, car less. This year, running, driving Lark that I will be getting tires for. Not to bad in a recession.

The Army wont loose any of there budget, so Im good!!! We even just got a raise.

And gas is down!! Why do they call this a recession?

If you got a loan you knew you couldnt afford, its your fault.

Years of obsessive-compulsive collecting and hoarding means I have plenty of material to work on. Now instead of collecting, it is a good time to get down to putting stuff together - hate to think what my electric bill is going to be though.:(

slow at the shop, but this is the slow time every other year too, so who knows? been working on my diamond t pickup. mostly labor and welding consumables, so other than shop overhead, it doesn't cost much. usually picks up by march, so we'll see.

2008 has been the worst for us.I lost my business in the beginning of the year due to this recession.
Since then had to take a job"Grave Yard Shift" that does not even cover the mortgage and is a perfect canidate for a Mike Row episode.
Rarley see the wife and kids due to being burned out from being up all night.
Had perfect credit up till this year and now have none.Been selling what I can just to survive.
Still have my project that is at idle now due to lack of any funds to build it.But I will do what I can without money for now.

All in all 2008 was the ****s.I hope 2009 will bring in some light.

Just got a letter today telling me that my Social Security benefits will will increase by 5.8% next year. Thats better than any raise I got the last few years in worked! God I love retirement. And I must have money in my checking account cause I still have checks left.:D
Thanks Ryan for the HAMB Alliance. I've saved a lot money this year on parts for my 5W project.

Steel industry is slow. So I may have more free time on my hands soon:(. Plenty of project time, just not much extra cash to spend on them.

  18. For the first time in years I have no back log. I've been booked up for a year or more for at least five years (part time shop, so I wasn't produceing a ton of work). I've got one car in the shop that I should finish up over xmas break and I'm done! It's all good though, I'm so burnned out and tired of big restoration jobs. Finally retirement from the second job! Who knows maybe I can actually work on my own **** for a change.

recession makes more crime... and then more OVER TIME..

I still pay my bills, civil service doesnt change unless the city does drastic cut backs, but I'm not worried I've got some seniority finally.

I've purchased some parts it would have taken me a lot longer to acquire otherwise; people selling stuff 'cuz they need the money, you know.

Well am Chief of Maintenance at a water treatment plant, and my wife is in pharmaceutical research. As long as the public continues to shower and fill their prescriptions, we got jobs which = money for the build :) Simple mathematics, Watson. :D

...not much difference for me either now or when the economy is good; I never have any money either way! ...be nice to sell some of my "for sale" cars tho, that'd help.

Me as well. I am one of the lucky ones in this city that doesn't work for GM. Means cheaper gas/parts prices for me. All the folks that got laid off are looking to unload some stuff.

Not the best way to gather parts but who am I to complain.
