Hey Folks. Anyone have any pictures or could photoshop a 49-51 chopped merc outfitted with polished American Racing Salt Flat Specials and white walls? I haven't seen these on a merc, usually just muscle cars....thinking of running these in 16" with some Coker's. Thoughts?

Why you running for cover John? I saw those wheels and fell in love, but i have an internal battle with myself whether to run hubcaps or rims. Most rims put on mercs look like **** because they aren't very "era correct" (i.e. 80's crager ss', torque thrusts, kidney bean rally wheels). I think 16"s would be just enough of a statement without comprimising the size of the whitewall and the overall tire height. I'd be happy with a pic of anything pre 56 with these badboys.

those would look good on a merc depending on how it was built.

I vote no on the whitewalls.

    No way to the wheels?

I gotta have wide whites...that i'm not compromising on :D. I just want something different than baby moons or cadillac caps. I've seen these on some 55 and up chevy 210's etc, but never on a fat fender car. Thanks for the continued input!

Nothing about that wheel fits with the essence of a Merc in my opinion.

Nothin' beats wide whites and 57 Caddy caps on a Merc. That is IF the car is done as a traditional custom.

  9. A coffee cup has a "rim" your car has WHEELS.

And no on a Merc with WWW's

    what is your recommendation?

  11. Get creative and customize some caps.

  12. if you want a hot rod, then, buy a different car.

nuttin' wrong with a HOT ROD merc in my opinion.

"I gotta have wide whites...that i'm not compromising on"

in that case I think you should put fancy hubcaps on it.

I saw them on a merc once, with black wall tires. I sure as hell wouldn't think to use them with www. As far as not wanting what everyone else has.......

I can post a pic of it for you, but i'm really in the early stages of the build. The chop hasn't been started, just the rust repair and the smoothing. Here ya go...though i'm not sure it will help. Last one is the day we picked it up.I'm a newbie on my first Merc build, so i'm up for any advice :)

  20. something different is cool, but, your not going to find much love around here for mags on a merc. i like the wheel really well myself. just not on a mercury. there is one somewhere with those wheels on, i've seen a pic, but i can't remember where. by the way your in no way getting your *** kicked on this thread.

Thanks for the movie....pretty serious cage in that merc. Makes a 25.5 funnycar cage look like something my kid made at school LOL!

then why is it called "motorsports" not "enginesports"?cars have motors jets have engines.your car looks like a twin of mine.i say go for it! its getting hard to not look like a cookie cutter with a merc anymore.how boring is a line of look-a-likes?i wouldnt run them with whitewalls though, maybe red lines.

  26. Oh no!! you DIDN'T just say MOTOR !!!!!!:eek:
Seriously, if you are building with a b'ville theme those wheels would be OK. But not on a traildragger. JMHO...Thanks, Mike

IMO black-walls and full moons do not belong on a Merc. Especially not one with skirts. But then there is no accounting for the taste of movie producers.

It's no where near a Merc but this 55 would give the idea of the salt flat wheel with a wide whites. Took this pic at James Dean Run 2007. Maybe someone can pull the wheels off with photo shop. I like the 55 not to sure about on a Merc but we may never know 'til someone tries it. TomCat1

I'll guess i'll have to see when the time comes...which will be soon, because the body is coming off to do all the framework after christmas. I just like to think ahead of the game. I am not building a salt flat car by any reach....just thought they were cool wheels (NOT RIMS lol)
