I work with the trucking industry, and trucks move America. Without trucks no one would get their stuff, so I feel ok right now. I still have not started spending a bunch of money on building my new garage and car parts yet, I will wait till spring and see how it is then.

Other than making me a little nervous about spending money, nothing so far.

Since GM may be in deep doo-doo, I have my resume all polished up and I will continue to do a little "side work" in my home shop in case my real job (Chevy Service Manager) goes away. I am fortunate, I bought my house 35 years ago and I owe no money....anywhere....we will survive but my new engine will be just delayed for a year or so. I just can't buy parts for a while.

    Recession? What recession?
The myth created by the news media to sell advertisements to scare people that don't even have a car about high gas prices, that are now saying there is just as much danger of low gas prices!, or the fable about needing to create a democracy for the people of Irak, or the one that said if we don't use wind energy the ice cap will melt (for the 11th time in 200,000 years), or the ones that want you to buy a new car even though the one you already have is running just fine because the industry has overproduced and are'nt going to stop overproducing, or the asshole union leadership that want to keep the members under their thumb but are slowly losing that grip, or the guy that says if you don't buy new parts for your hotrod you are building an unsave vehicle, ,? ,? , ?

Use the Vchip on your TV! Turn off your fuckin' news channels.

Project is stalled cause I got no money for parts or tools. Business at the Ford dealer I work at is real slow, has been for almost a year, and my paychecks are half of what they were this time last year. Thank god for fleet trucks or I wouldn't have a job. On the bright side I was able to do some horse trading to get a '31 Tudor body, just can't afford the gas to get out to Utah to pick it up.

What he^ said, just in a different order....OH, and let's add that I'm unemployed! Moved to marry my wife (at her job 10yrs an her family are here--me, not so much, didn't have shite in Dallas but a job), well I get here and find out, the career I've put the last 10yrs of my life into and becoming quite good at, is not supported in this town.
Can not find ONE job in my specialty. SO...this January it's back to school...at the AGE OF 40...yeeaah, I'm lookin forward to that shit, but it's gotta be done.

At my place of employement, we just hired a few fulltime people.

I agree, throw the dam tv in the trash, and do your thing!

  15. Busiest I remember ever being where I work, at least since the mid 80s. Working for Uncle Sam, I'm lucky and unlike so many in SE Michigan not to have to worry about losing my job. Wifey's job is iffy but so far so good. Cheap gas has really helped these last few months! Hoping things will turn around soon for all that are having a tough time making ends meet, I know what it's like to be out of work, been there done that in the past - it sucks.

I really don't get it. I have to go with the media thing, hell, my home page MSN is the worst. Always negative shit. Neither friends nor ourselves have changed a thing in life style or buying habits. yeah, the retirements have taken a hit but they have before. I think that's on purpose too :) wft did I come into this thread for?

I run 40+ pipefitters and 50+ tinners and can't get any people out of the hall. We are freaking busy thru Feb. Maybe St. Louis is the place to be.....

The business I work in is doing well. A year and a half ago we decided to go after some Military and Aerospace business to augment our industrial business. The additional sales has offset any industrial slow down and the margins are better.
My wife got fed up with her job and quit in August, (while I was at Bonneville). She did not want to wreck my vacation so she didn't tell me until I got home. I didn't sweat it. She ended up having multiple offers from other companies and came out $4 an hour ahead and had a well deserved break.
Only thing slowing the car progress is our house remodel project. New entry, mudroom, new roof, combined the kitchen and dining room, new master bath, added a fireplace. A lot to bite off, typical over budget, concerned about the timing to do but it was long over-due, and I have learned life is too short to wait.

Just have to hussle alot harder for just the money to pay bills. Have plenty of stuff top keep buildin, finish that all depends on when things turn around. No worries I own every thing cash so I'm not in a tough spot.

  20. Well, my shop's been just dead for about 4 weeks. So, I'll finally start building my 38 Chevy Gasser that I've been staring at for 13 months. I found some frame parts I needed here that arrived 2 days ago. So, work starts Monday. WOOHOO!:D:cool::);)

  21. EXACTLY! It's all about propaganda! I say, if ya turn off the fucking news, 30% of the economy will fix itself overnight.

I shut down my business indefinitely 2 weeks ago, it was costing me more to keep the doors open than I was taking in. As far as the projects go I am selling mine and going to buy another nice driver pre 48 for sure. Funny thing is the price of some of these cars are going for super low, must be people who really need the money.

As far as things in my neighborhood I watched 3 cars get repoed last week all high end cars like BMW's and the like. Before long it will be foreclosures...........

Prices going up was hurting, right now everything is getting less expensive. My job is tied to the oil industry, oil/gas prices crashed and so has my work flow. Hopeing for the best and fearing the worse.

Recesion my ass! Everybody in the local is working 7 days a week. New VW plant going in and construction work is thru the roof. We have plenty of work on the books, and not looking like things will change any time soon. Everybody needs electricity I guess.

I've also had more customer calls in the last week, than in the last year... We are Good, things will get better, wait and see.

Gas was $1.27 today on the way in from work. Bye, Bye George Bush!

Both my wife and I seem reasonably safe at work. I had a bunch of parts stockpiled for the '38 Dodge and that's where i am concentrating my efforts.

I had planned on getting my '69 Vette frame off project painted but with the drop in stock prices my paint money evaporated (had planned to sell some stock I have in the company I work for). Oh well - I have painted cars before - maybe I'll paint it myself. I did everything else but I thought I would treat myself to a paint job. So much for that.

Also, I am noticing that there are some SCREAMING deals on project cars right now. I am considering picking up another project while they are cheap - probably something "50s".
