I'm loving what you guys do over there, running around with your hoods off. We can't do it here. so show us pics of your cars running no hoods i'll start
Im not sure why your loving it, it kinda looks silly and ridiculous to me...But hey, to each his own I guess....
I'm with Fifty5C I think it's stupid, doesn't look good... I think early-mid 30's is as late as you can go to run hoodless...
Only a few 1940's and 50's cars look good without a hood. The top of that list is the 39-40 fords. Now if the engine looks better than the car that could be a reason. Other than that why do it. Now pre-40 cars thats a different story.
I'm figuring you like 49-54 Chev's i ran my 54 for a while without the bonnet - never got any heat fromthe feds. you must be from Qld
I've run mine hoodless for 16 years. I'd be a millionare if I had a dollar for every time I've been asked "ya got a hood for it?" or been told I lost my hood. It's worth it though when an old timer comes up and tells me "that's what all the cool 40's looked like when I was a kid."
i get alot of shit from friends but the local fuzz loves it! i get a thumbup from those donut eatin pigs every time.
There definitely was a time that us guys that are a little older remember when it was cool to run a Hot street car without a hood. Showing off your motor and saying you mean business. Especially if you had a tunnel ram or blower. Many times it was due to the street racer types that were constantly swapping parts or motors and it was just easier to leave it off, or you ran out of time before heading out for a little street action that night. Wasn't really the thing for customs though as it ruined the lines of the car.
Havn't you guys ever hear the saying "Real hot rod don't have hoods!"? Agreed it looks better on some than others, and I like it on late 50's/early sixties cars w/ the hood hinges up. The motor has to be detailed, but if it is and the car is down real low it just looks killer. That is the plans w/the 58 that I just started on.
Hoodless, floorless, topless, bumper-less, door-less, windshield-less -- what's next? anything to be different! Personally, I think it's cool - but the OCD side of me keeps wondering what it would be like with a hood...
Not with the hood all the way off. My last car was a tuperware 41 Willys. The front was one piece tilt and the only way to make the hood fit right was make it open. Couple of pictures to get the idea. Ran cool and I thought looked ok. Jim
Pulled the hood when I swapped engines a while back - liked the look. According to the Culver City Police Department it's not legal here either! No tickets, just a warning, so I try and avoid Culver City.
That's the trouble of going hoodless or anything else-less -- You can't louver it if it's not there! Pant louvers?! I don't know about that...
so true. i have a '74 z28 camaro that, in high school i was swapping cams, intake, headers, etc. so much the hood never stayed on. i even went as far as pulling the inner fenders at one time. was hard to bait a good run w/o a hood though.
