I used 3/4 square tubing bent lightly in my vise for most structure. then used the 3/4 round at the tight curves. I have a cheap harbor freight tubing bender. the bottle jack style. I just kept moving the tubing around in the bender untilI got the bend I needed. I wasnt too concerned with the look of it. gonna cover it up anyway. The only place I used larger tubing was from the firewall back to where the wheel tub starts. and this is below the rocker or sill plate. the size was 1 1/4 square. again bent lightly and carefully in the cheap bender. to fit the shape of the lower body. what year coupe? is it the 35? ... ghost

  7. 31ratroach,

There's a bunch of '29-up Chevrolet parts (including windshield mechanism) that were listed on Espay last night- sorry for not having the item #s, but if you do a search you will find them!

I'm 15 miles west of Warrensburg in a little town called Holden 64040

  16. The VW bus from 62-65 hardware, makes for a great roll back rag top, that is what I am using on my 30, but it is only going to the middle of the rear glass. I want to use the original dome light in the car, so I stopped the frame 14 inches behind the door "B" pillars. You could easily extend it though.

Ratcoach that roll back idea sounds cool. but with canvas keep in mind the structure of the upper area. check out what I did on the 28. it is all 3/4 square tubing. Again each piece bent just enough for the curve front to back, and side to side. you got some good ideas. keep it going...ghost

!!! take that picture of the listing on ebay and have a set cloned out of gold!

The length of the aluminum castings(1929) are 19 1/8 inches tall.

Not to hijack,But could you post closer up pics on how you did tha A and B pillars. What size tubing did you use in those areas.I see the top hinge on the door. But I cannot see what it is attached to.Also the roof structure where you have the top bows welded to.I need to do my 29 pontiac the same way.I also want to see how you mounted the door hinges if all posible .

Oh,On the those windsheild posts that you were being discussed.Mine are of some sort of pot metal also.

i was thinkin about doin a rollback top on my 31 coach, but i think i'm gonna go with a snap type tonneau like 29nash. have you driven with it? i drive a soft top jeep and that thing is loud as hell and i am not too fond of slappin fabric.

The tubing size on the a and b pillers is 3/4 inch square used with the original metal. I just built pockets with sheet metal for the hinge to recess in. I used 1/4 20 nuts and bolts too attach the hinges. I hung all the hinges on the doors then built and mounted them in the pockets. the square tubing is tacked to the a piller where the windshield would roll up. The outside perimiter of the roof metal is supported with 3/4 square tubing I drilled through the roof metal then puddle welded the tubing to this then attached the roof bows...ghost

Ratcoach is that a new avatar??? on your top if you decide not to install an opening top. You could put a steel top on it. then install a fake soft top above that one. plus it might save on body work and it wont leak...ghost
