Hot Rods and Classic Bikes qun....

  1. Ok which HAMBers are into rods/kustoms as well as classic bikes?

    I'm talkin Indian Chiefs,Scouts etc and Harley WLAs, Knuckeheads, Duo Glides etc....esp b/w 1938-1955. I even like the old Limey stuff esp the BSAs, and Triumphs. I reckon old hot rods and bikes really DO go together well, esp if you are into period vintage stuff and everything that goes with it.

    I think I'm gonna be selling one of my other rides and be looking at for a 46-48 Chief, preferably unrestored for a rider, not a garage queen.

    Whilst I love the old Harleys as well, the Indian is IT for me and I've been wanting one for a looooong time, so its put up or shut up.

    Anyone else here feel the same about the old bikes ? If ya got pix and feel like sharin, Id love to see 'em !!

    Rat, I have been searching for the right bike at the right price, but all that turns up is the new shit that doesnt suit my pallet, I love the indians but im currently looking to turn an old desert racer into a hybrid street bike thats slammed to the ground and mean as hell, something like a Bultaco would work nice
    as it turns out, everytime I save up enough for a basket case bike, I find a car or casino to donate to

  5. For sure Rat, anything with wheels, engine and that noisey dangerous thing.

    Had a rare Norton S with a full combat spec black fined motor when I was younger,
    bike was a real animal, effortless 110mph.
    Now got YZF1000, first thing I have found with the same arm wrenching torque, real nice machine.
    All so build trikes, which kind of links the hot rod and bike thing,
    here are a couple, the yellow one is based arround a Subaru flat four on the stock three speed auto transaxle, while the blue one is a 850cc inline on an inverted VW box.

    The blue one is meant to have that 'Indian four' look about it.

    I just bought this 1952 Triumph Speed Twin. It's still down in Texas though and won't be shipped here till the first week in January. I've also got a 1973 Tiger 750 bobber that I got from Hatch. But I guess it's just old and not a classic yet. Here's one of the Ebay pics of the 52.

  7. bikes have been a staple in the family along with rods and pickups since forever my dad has an nice collection of vintage harley and triumphs. dont have any pics to share though sorry.

    '45 45" WL Civilian Motor, first production run after the war... pulled out of a hippie's barn as a bar-hopper chopper and taken down, rebuilt with this more bobber style chassis.

    Put a larger Linkert on it and a 35 tooth primary sprocket (road racing sprocket) to help run a little faster on top end. 3 speed w/reverse, not easy to ride in reverse with the 18" bars...

    A couple I've owned. I still have the Panhead (black version) and there's almost enough parts for another Knuck (1938) in the back of the shop. I've got a FXR too, but I guess that doesn't count here, even though it's over 20 years old.

  18. I'll bet everybody on here has an appreciation for old bikes. I don't think its off topic at all but, I'm glad for the Jockey Journal to keep things on track here. Still, I like to see some discussion of bike here from time to time. I like the '70's superbikes myself esp. the Z1's and KZ's, (yeah, '70's Jap bike's, what about it :D). I like a H-D as much as the next guy but I can't stand the attitude of most of the Yupster's who ride them and they cost too damn much for what you get. I'm right there with you on the '46-'48 Chief though, man, I've always waned one.

    BTW, Thunderace, those trikes rule! Do you have any trouble getting them registered and street legal over there?

    I like the black panhead. I have not wrenched on a bike or rode now in over 35 years. I'm wondering how hard was it to build that pan? Like does one still have to search all over for motor parts? Or can one buy a computer machined, completely new, pan motor nowadays?

    This one has a 51 model engine (bottom end at least) and transmission, but you can get everything new to build one. S&S, Jammer (Custom Chrome), and a few more folks make turn key Pan engines. They aren't exact reproductions, but updated designs. They run from around $7,000.00 to $10,000.00 depending on what you're wanting. You can even get a S&S Knucklehead now for around $9000.00.

    You can get new transmissions, frames (custom or stock looking), front ends and CCE even makes reproduction finned aluminum rocker boxes. Just about everything you need to build a complete bike.

    BUT, be forewarned, you will end up having the same discussions that go on around here about original vs. Brookville bodies, etc.

    Wow, that is pretty cool looking. I like how they kept that signature long seat and the tank with with the chrome piece. Actually even the motor looks pretty vintage too.

    Okay, that explains it. I saw a pic of a pan motor but it had a late model, square block looking oil pump on it. That must be one of the repops.

    Looks like you've been riding a while, how long does your back last on that rigid frame pan? :)

    Here is my '67 Triumph that Ive owned since I was 13..it was my first car and I will die with this bike....this is my RPU "Six Pack To Go" that I sold over the summer...the other pics are in NYC a few years ago with my brothers W650 2000 Kawi!! That bike is awesome...very hard to find now and are getting good money on EGAY and its a jap bike?!?!?!:eek: The sporty was my buddies, he has a jockey shift shovel now... ~Eric

    About 1/10th as long as it does on the FXR. LOL I don't do much traveling on the Panhead. I guess it's a coffee shop and burger joint machine, since I don't do much bar hopping anymore.
    Come to think of it, I haven't done much traveling on the FXR lately either. I'm putting a 6 speed in it right now and plan on putting some miles on it this summer.
