hey ghost, you are usin pretty small size tubing for your car. i was planning on using like 1.5 tube for mine, you think i could get away with usin smaller stuff. i want it to be stout enough that if someone hits me i dont end up like a crushed soda can. so i was thinkin i could reinforce the body and use it also as a kind of cage. i want it to be wicked safe there are alot of dipshit drivers i this towm.

Naw I think the 3/4 is fine if you put enough of it in there. I put jack stands on both ends of the body at the furthest points then opened all three doors to check for any stress and got none. plus once I put the maze of tubing (same size) in for the base of the flooring, along with the boxed frame, and 1 1/2 round tubing for the x member, and the 1 1/4 square tubing thats below the rocker panels and cowl area. I think the only weak point would be the running boards and I might even brace them in case someone wants to ride on them. A roll cage could be incorporated in if you needed more and maybe even hide it. you can never be to carefull. I built a 32 chevy coupe the same way and the body was solid and quiet. NO RATTLES...ghost

Ratcoach...I hope you dont mind us using your thread to continue to talk chevy. on your roof question 1. smooth steel, 2. soft top, or 3. roll back. any of these three would look good.and the noise output 1. 2. 3. not sure if your car would look good with a ribbed roof like from a van. (NAH) I vote for 409 but 427 badges would be cool to YOU CANT LOSE...ghost

i guess you are right about the smaller tubing i think what i'll do is have some areas with some good strong 1.5 tubing and tie it together with the small stuff to save weight and keep the most strength. anyone got any spare rockers they wanna get rid of? i need some. i dont really wanna fork over 200 bux for the ones at fillingstation.

    Did you try Howell's? http://fordor.com/category.cfm?cat=Rocker Panels&dept=2331chev

You might run a HAMB search on them first. Opinions vary on their level of service. The Model A parts we used are very nice and came in a timely manner. I would bet Jerry at Filling station is selling Howell's parts.

It was nothing here, as in ziltch, zero. Until noon. I put on my longies, 4 layers of sweater, shirt vest and coat and went to the garage. About 10 oclock, beer time I popped a top. Sat the beer down to do something, next thing I know my beer is congealed in the bottle! Had to shine a heat lamp on it before I could continue........

Well... Give everyone a run down on your truck. motor, how much it's channeled, if it's bagged, suspension what you used and if the grille travels at that height. from what I see it looks good... The 32 that you have, any pics...ghost

i would if the lsnd lord would let me cut a hole in the wall

  29. ....401 nailhead, connected to a Super T-10 conected to a 57 chevy factory posi rear. It's fun....believe me. Frame has been z'ed front and back, done buy a buddy. Stock parallel leafs up front with a slight dropped MAS axle with 54 chevy brakes. Suicide doors 4 link and coil overs in the back. Chopped 4" and channeled about 6" Runs great, been a lot of work, as all of us are doing or done, wood sucks, but i'm a chevy guy, and i'll suffer to keep with chevys. Ran a low 15 second quarter in it and that was when i was having clutch problems....the clutch was slipping the whole way down the track, 2 passes and cooked the clutch, but hell at low 15's with a bad clutch.....gotta be a lot quicker now. Yah, it's low, i do have a chunk of angle wrapped around the radiator to protect it, but the way it sits the tires will contact any bumps before the shell, so no issues there, just low sitting front.

No real proof, but supposedly in the late 50's it was made into a hot rod in Salt Lake city, composed of a 55 chevy drive train 265 V8, 3 speed....... bobbed fenders, shortened box, unchopped and channeled, and i guess the old guy drove the shit outta it. Sold to a HS shop teacher for a shop project, the class putzed with it, teacher retired and dumped it off in a Vegas suburb where it sat for a few years. Guy on here found it, decided not to buy and posted it here. I got it about 7 years ago. got the frame done, and it sat till about 3 years ago when i got it done.....that's about it.

The 32.....not mine YET....that's dad's old rod, pic you see is from 61. I should be working on it this summer, full fendered, unchopped, un channeled, shiney paint...and maybe a blown SBC...I've been after that for 15 years, just this past year he finally decided he'd not do anything with it and will sell it to me....But that's why my truck needs to be sold...fund the next project.

The last pic is unchopped or channeled. Frame done, but just before i really started to rip into it. jan 1 06

Yea your truck looks good. I know the drill about selling one to build the next just sold my 32 chevy coupe to pay bills, and finance my next one. I think your build pics will be real informative for everyone on here thanks . I like the direction your going with the 32 build did your dad have something to do with that? ghost
