Started the section job on the 48 yesterday. Buddy came out and he help me mark it all out. Last night I started cutting about 730 and cut till around 930 or so. I have a bout 2 foot more of cutting to do and I can set it down. Taking 4 inches out of it with out sectioning the hood.

The way I did it might not be a normal way to section things but I wanted to keep the hood and fenders fully bulbous.

I have a few little modifications I going to do. No chop, just section, shaved, window treatment to the rear windows...

    More To Come....

    Its a nice start~~~~~~~~~~

  3. I cheated a bit. I sectioned the cowl and hood then channeled the full length door down to match the bottom of the front fenders and did away with the running boards. step by step photos on my web site under "shop truck build"

it's just the look I was after for a work truck. yours will come out a much better custom......Jim

4" is a lot. The best section that I have seen to date is 2.5". Taken from just underneath the cowl and at the wide part of the cab like you show. good work.

Got any photochops or sketches of your vision? It sounds odd looking to me. Are you going to have really short front fenders (height-wise)?

I would think that you would have to section the fenders to fit the cab.

hey ch3, its really simple even though it confuses the hell out of a lot of people. first do a negative mask over your flames, spray a couple coats of high build primer over them, unmask, clean your edges, and spray whatever color your using over the whole thing. ssshhhhhhh, dont tell anybody. keep em guessin. :(

Damn man you must think you live in a castle to be throwing stones like that! So the Dream Truck is shitty?

Take a look at the new pics im posting. I made a vertical cut that the front cab corner up all the way until it met my 4 inch section to be taking out. when its all cut it dropes down so the cowl is 4 inches lower. all the fenders will line up and be in the same place as they where front the factory.

the flange where they mount is not going to change at all.

I actually used a picture of your flat bed to come up with me ideas didnt save it just kept to idea in my head. I used yours because it didnt have running boards on it so i had less to make around.

how many 21 year old "kids" would even try some thing like this? Think about it when some of you older guys where 20-25 had you chopped or sectioned some thing?

Im doing this to learn! Im open to everyone thoughts. Some people in this hobby, life style what ever you wanna call it, talk out their A$$!

Oh yeah Im gonna put LEAD back in it too!!!!Knock me on that

I see so your gonna deal with the bottoms of the fenders hanging down by trimming them back and remaking the edges .
Very clever and the section doesn't look too much in my eyes , looks good ;)
not a job for a p***y i may add , i may try something like that on my next one (probably a roof chop, or channel it ) but i was too scared this time , plus i do like the standard dimensions of the 3100

well done keep the pics coming and always remember its your truck , and sometines some people jus express their opinions a bit too loudly
if we all had the same ideas of what looks good we'd all be driving the same truck and life would be so so boring
    Good work youngun

Don't cut the doors. I remember reading about the Dream Truck rebuild and they sectioned the inner door panel and refitted it to the full outer skin, then cut off the excess on the bottom. Saved a lot of weld time and gave a filler free door you could slam shut forever. Good luck with the project, post more photos when you can.

wasnt throwin stones smartass!!! no, the dream truck isnt shitty, i was mainly talkin about the one that i saw, and was wondering if you had a plan or were jumpin in head first!!! if you read my post carefully before you started talkin shit, you would see that i said im sure you'll get it right and wished you good luck with your project. if that was throwin stones than you might be a little to sensative when somebody really critiques your work. again i say, good luck!!!

Interesting approach. Initially I was thinking 3" outta my 54. I have other ideas, and projects, but I do like a sectioned AD. Too late now, but you coulda saved a shit ton of welding/time by drilling out the spot welds at the back of the cab, bring your section cut just around the corner, then straight down to the bottom. Once dropped back down cut off the excess and re-weld to the floor. I can't recall where I saw that but it looked smart. Same on firewalls...drill the welds, drop the top of the firewall, lay the cab back down and re-spot...no evidence. I'm looking forward to the rest of the mods. Nice vision.

Yeah im going to cut the folded lip at the edge of the doors in one spot above where im going to take out my 4 inches. then im going to peel it back all they way around the door. Cut the inner structor away from the skin take the 4 inches out then make the inner structor fit.then form the door to match the cab profile weld it all up.

Oh wow I didnt realize so many had been done. The Gaylord truck looks like its just chopped. Im going to stay semi mild on stuff. Just to make it look like a custom shops shop truck in the 50s. Do you have anymore pictures?

dont get so cocky kid probably did 10 sections and chops by the time i was 21. dont think because your the only young kid in your area doing it that nobody that age is. other than that i think it looks good and i like the way you want the finished truck to be very mild custom. keep updating.

I still say really shallow fenders is gonna look odd.

I like the proportions of the Gaylord's truck. I believe the fenders are still stock and all of the height was cut out of the hood.

I want to build one where only the front of the truck is sectioned. Cut 2 1/2 inches out of the hood and raise the fenders the same 2 1/2 inches.

Dane, Just build it your way and post the photos, had an early '55 AD when I was your age and admire what you've done so far.
