I love those gulfport photos. They ran true open compition run what you brought with you. I asked if any rules and was told a helmet and brakes were recomened. as you could see a sprint car and winged late model modifieds { what we called them down south} plus I see one cadet car {302 and 2 barrel carb} Keep them coming this thread is about the only reason I turn on my puter..

It's Harry Gant. He was on the cover of an old SCR magazine in this car.

  7. Ah yes, Gentleman Harry Gant. heck of a driver. Thanks!

  8. Aren't those the ASA cars that Dick Trickle, Alan Kuwiki and Rusty Wallace ran. I know the mods ran there but was it with that class?

  22. Pete, your Mom and I were lucky enough to go to the tight narrow turned Nazareth track one night when we went to Flemington. Only to find it was rained out or something.
Talk about bull ring racing! And, the fans! Geez, we had a heck of a time!

Nazareth was great, got there a few times in the early eighties. Dirt from turn one would clear the fence and be all over the highway! Place was dumpy, but it had character and some good racing.

  24. We were at Poconos and went to Nazareth, but it might have closed down, I remember looking through the fence or it could have been canceled due to rain, so we went to my only time at Flemington and had dirt dogs for dinner.

  25. Yes, that was another time. Your poor mother was wearing all white! LOL
Or she was the first time I took her to Flemington. I was laughing the whole time when I wasn't watching the races as she was trying to wave away the dust and clay mix from the track.

Many people complained about the Flemington dirt, but we wouldn't stop going there and if was still there I would still be there, along with Nazareth, East Windsor and Reading.

Just and update on my father's old car #98. It has been restored a couple of times and was recently sold to the 4th owner. Good news is that it is on this months cover of Vintage Oval Magazine. Attached is the cover photo. It's great to see it still on the dirt.

And I loved the Flemington Dirt when I was a kid. Does anyone remember the fried chicken?
