Uncle Sam drafted me in 1969 and from January 1970 to March 1971 I was an MP in Viet Nam. I'm almost back to normal now. :D

  10. Enlisted in 1960 at age 17. Infantry. Spent some time in Germany and two tours in Viet Nam (1/7 Cav 65-66 & 1/20 Inf 69-70). Retired from the reserves as a LTC. Everything I am today I owe to my decision to enlist.

Don't want to hijack the thread - so here's the short version:
Had timing off and it wouldn't fire. Realized I'd flooded it badly and pulled plugs in preparation for spinning it over and flushing gas out. Figured I'd better pull coil wire first, but pulled wrong end! (Chances are, I was dead drunk while doing this, as usual in those days)
I hit the button and it spun fast, launching fuel out of sparkplug holes while coil wire (from Accel Super coil) provided spark: KaBlooey! I remember being happy that the hood didn't break windshield when it landed on car - while we all ran and hid. I was asked not to return after that. No photos.

  12. Of all the guys that have and will post, I must hand it to you conscripted guys.
You did a great job when you were given no other choice, to fight and as hard as you did is a credit to us all.
    Conscripts/Nashos, true hero's.
I guess I should mention all who were 'stop lossed' too, working hard when you dont want to be there.

    Doc.

PS, Nashos were the Aussy conscripts, National Service=Nasho.

Drafted early 66, spent basic at Fort Lewis, advanced at Fore Ord, went to Germany a PFC
with 71Hotel20 MOS, served at Gibbs Consern near Frankfurt. Was at H&HCo, 5th Corp.
Was Personel Clerk, Training Clerk, Mail Room Clerk, then became Supply Sgt. (buck). The reason I held so many postions is because my CO hated my ass because he thought I was porking his wife.................which I wasn't. Towards the end of my carrer in Germany I had actually put in a 1049 (request for transfer) to Vietnam..............which he tore up in my face. His name was Lt. Yenrick and had been on the "farm team" for the 49rs.
I was also a member of 5th Corp Color Guard (were I was out of my CO's site) where I meet my first wife while attending Gen. Patton's Day in Ettlebruck, Luxembourg. Actually got to meet Gen. Patton's son. We were there with 2000 other GI's, but since we were the 5th Corp color guard we got to stay in a hotel while the others were in camp city.
Was also at the F-1 race where Jimmy Clarke was killed.
Had a great time and there were 4 marks to the dollar. Had my own furnished flat for $75US a month, bought a brand new Volkswagen for $1200 and skied my legs off in Insnbruck, Austria.
One of the greatest times in my life,

Europe tour, Bosnia Tour, State side. There are times when I think back and I just start smiling at the times I have had...there are times which were sad as well but either way noone can take that part of my life away. Wouldnt change a minute of it.
The only sticker that will be on my ride is the Army Vet sticker.
