My son just dropped mine off tonight. Its going into storage until I find the "right" vehical. I have an idea what I'm looking for, but right now I have no money or space. Nothing special right now, just a lowly original 100,000+ mile engine from a 70 Dodge truck. Gene

got a slanted six in my 61 dodge. the crankshaft broke in two . it still ran though, just had a nasty vibration. rebuilt the whole thing.

got a 390 holley and a 4 bbl intake I may put on it. maybe I should fix the brakes first.

MOPAR ran /6's in two racig series. One for for compacts in NASCAR, Grand American?? The /6 powered valiants so dominated the cl*** that it was canceled after a year or two.
IMSA Goodrich Challange also had a 6 cylinder cl*** similar to SCCA. It lit likely that 3.0 was the cl*** maximum displacement. Cl*** was populated with darts, valiants, gremlins, hornets, nova, falcons and corvairs. Bob Tullius ran a couple of /6 powered darts.

some other Direct Connection performance kits

This is my Non-H.A.M.B. friendly '79 Dodge D100 225 slant/3 speed short wide bed daily/shop truck.
I went to Summit last week and tryed to buy a chrome or any cool looking valvecover for my slant.... no dice! Then I hit up PepBoys over in Pittsburgh.... no dice! So I guess I'll hit the swap-meets and maybe check with the MOPAR guys.
I'll go out and snap a picture or two of the engine tomorrow.

The short deck height indicates it's the LG or 170ci block. The core plugs just above the timing cover and just forward of the fuel pump and the stud near the fuel pump for a generator bracket are consistent with the early blocks use from '60-'62 and the casting number falls into that range. Other than what looks like a marine use water pump adapter and the domed pistons it looks pretty normal to me. You can bore most /6 blocks .100" oversize which gets you 2956cc with the stock 170 crank.

  17. The dragster was my last project and I raced it sucessfully this year. It works well but is cammed as a street motor and so needs especially more cam to reach 6000 . I built it to try the snowmobile carb idea which works BTW. I had wanted to for 35+ years but never had anyone interested and didint have the time. I told someone I started building a manifold and a dragster broke out. That is truer than you might think.

The Bantam is one I was involved with . Stu Denyes bought my old half finished Ch***is and body from a friend and finished it. He asked me to supply an engine and trans. All I had was a 170 slant six with some milege on it and a corvair turbocharger. I married the two. It took less than a day to mate and worked absolutley perfect. Eventualy the car was painted blue but as pictured here it was run in Cayugas first ever $1000 bracket race and won 3rd. $1000 then was about like $10000 now and there was no room in the pits and hundreds of cars. It was also Stu's first serious Drag Race. He was so good on the tree that he was out way ahead and figured he had it won. Being only his first public race he thought he had it won and rather than lift he shut the ignition off. He was runnng (semi-final) a BB chevy powered GTO at the time and when he realized the guy was closing he restarted the car and only lost by about 3 feet. He went on to race this for many years and won way more than his share. A couple of years later he asked me for a 225 with no turbo si he could race alone and I built him one. It is still around in a nearby town. He raced it for a long time until he lost the fire so to speak. Like my rail we carried the Altered as well in the back of a 1/2 ton. This Altered pic is about 1976.

I'll answer for old6rodder as he has been working many long hours trying to finish the Sierra Madre Rose Parade Float in time for the parade on New Years Day and doesn't get much time on here right now.

"The green one", Barn Job #18 is one of the first west coast HA/GR cars. Here's the link to his build.

I would like to say the craftsmanship on your car and engine is astonishing to say the least. My hat is off to you and your crew.

They are not mine but the first car ran 9.85 in the 1/4 on 12# of boost. That was back in 2004 at Bristol. It has run as fast as 6.10 in the 1/8 which was .17 quicker than the 9.85 split. Not bad for an old slant six huh? The second motor was .3 faster in a different car at the same boost levels.

I've got three of them..........one runs, the other two are builders. One of the "extras" is an aluminum block job, out of a '62 Valiant. I keep thinking we might put it in a HA/GR. :D

Here'e even a sweet slant 6 from Bonneville 2008. It sounded incrediably mean but I can't remember what speeds it ran. Joe www.powerandnoise.com
