Lets start this off with an anti-drama clause. I do AD Chevy Trucks. I've got 5 cabs and 2 complete trucks here (see HAMB Trek for the '54 my older son is building). I've had 4 or 5 1954 Bel Air more doors and we have have a 1948 Chevy Sedan Delivery project and a 1946 Chevy Sports Sedan as a parts car for the Delivery (younger son's ride). I love the looks of the Model A, especially the 30/31. I don't know all the details to tell them apart, I know enough to look at the cowl to see the 28/29 and the 30/31. Last summer I stopped at a country junk yard about 3 miles from my house as the crow flies. I was trying to help Punkabilly 1306 find some parts to get his '62 Merc on the road. The guy was very helpful and showed me around. He told me about his son in law being the police officer that had recently been shot and killed during a drug bust in Toledo, OH and that this was to be his car. He said he'd sell it for $1500. Yesterday he followed me down the road to my house and told me he'd let me have it for $700. I don't know enough yet to know what all I need to look for so your help is what I need. I hate those "what's it worth" threads but here's mine. Bash me for being an idiot and not knowing but I'm sure I can get a****le for it if he doesn't have it and delivery isn't a problem, we've got a boat load of snow this week and I could put it in 4 of my kids' sleds and tow it home with our 8N! I've done some searches here and unless you put Model in front of the A, you won't get far! I have learned that there were only 5 windows, that there are about 4 or 5 that I totally love, that I can get many of the parts, and that anything from a Ranger 4 cylinder to a Hemi is accepted and that if a SBC is 'belly*****on' then the Milner Coupe must be junk so I'm willing to take that junk! Anyway. Is this something to grab, think about, or walk away from?
700 for everything id take it .looks a little buckled but the frame and everything looks pretty solid
Can I be your "new" son. Christmas is around the corner, and I would love an A for Christmas!!! I promise I'lle be good
Some of you may recall an art show from this summer that I posted a rainbow and joked that there was a Ford junk yard at the end? Well, this IS in that yard!! It is behind the barn!!!
It's a great deal. Grab it! But make sure it's easy to get a****le for it, other wise you just have parts.
You should grab it and put it up for now and think about what you want to do with it. You could always sell later or use it to trade up for another project.
I'm pretty sure the right rear fender next to the coupe is a sedan fender. The visor and windshield frame are gone - unless they'e in the pile O' parts. How is the body sub-frame? Would it be easy to get a floor in or does the sub-frame need a lot of work as well? Where are the rumble hinges? Aside from needing a lot of patch panels it appears to be a parts car and I'm guessing it's missing a lot of small and important things. Take someone experienced in Model A's along with you and get their opinion. Not worth over $500. - if that - in my estimation. Depending on your budget, look around for a discontinued Model A resto project or hot rod project and buy that instead. You may end up money ahead.
One question. Can you do the rust repair and body work yourself? $700 is a good price but if you have to pay a "professional" body man, the car will wind up sitting around, irritating your wife, until you sell it to someone else. pigpen
Being that rough and something you're not fully "into"...I'd say either pass on it...or pass it on to someone who has a true lust for it! Somehow, I don't think it'd be hard to find an eager buyer around here for that deal! (Doesn't Von Rigg want it????)
