Dude, I paid $900 for my '31 Coupe body about 20 yrs ago. If that one is roller with most parts - it is a deal ! Grab it !

I didn't say I didn't know anything, I just said my focus hasn't been into these. I love the looks and the style but I don't know about parts and such. I'm willing to attempt the patches and such and, yep, there are a bunch who've already hit me up for it. Von Rigg Fink didn't want it at $1500 but I bet he'd have wanted it at $700!!

I'm just trying to figure out how to swing it. I'm getting laid off for 3 weeks the first 2 months of the year. Found out yesterday about 2 hours before the guy followed me down the road!

  5. If you cant swing it, pass the deal on to a fellow HAMBer that can! Im sure they would make it worth your while.

As stated throughout this thread it's worth $700.00 easy. The fact that it's local makes it that much better. There's guys that would make a road trip for a deal. Drag it home, clean it up, if you run short on cash flip it and make a few bucks.

Borrow the money from Court and Eli and go buy the thing!

If you guys decide you don't want it you can teach the boys how to flip cars for a profit :D (isn't that somewhere in your wife's teaching manuals?;))

  10. Location, Location, Location!

I bought mine for more than $700 and jumped on it because it was here in town. There 'may' be a cheaper deal or a better car out there, but if you have to take a road trip to get it, it won't be a better buy than this one for $700.
By buying this one instead of shopping for the next one you will also avoid the possibility of driving all day to discover the seller lied about the condition of what he has... You can see this one up close in person... That is worth a lot as well.
Shopping for a Hot Rod project isn't like buying a new TV, you can't just look at ten and then decide in a couple of months which one you want. You will only realize you missed the best deal.

I don't really like buying cars just to flip them. None the less when I come across a good deal on a car I want in this price range, I buy it. Then if I find a better one, I buy it as well, and sell the first one. If you truly get a good deal each time, you will never be stuck with anything and usually make a bit of money for your trouble. At the end of the process you end up with the best one available. You can also swap the best parts from your first purchase onto the second one resulting in a great starting point to your project.

At $700.... Buy it. Decide later what you want to do with it.

6.5 for that is silly when there's a plethora of restored coupes around here for 9-12k.

  13. Heck, when I moved out here, I found a Model T cowl, fenders, running boards and some other T stuff with it in a small dump.

Found Model T's as yard art.

Found a pair of fairly nice Model T roadsters, one****embled, no engine, one disassembled.
Probably $500. to $1000 would take either one.

Same place, 32 Chevy roadster disassembled.
    Not sure on the price.

Free Buick - lots better than the Model A.

Free Dodge Roadster - when we picked it up.

Quite a few potential donor cars of the 70's.

Think I found some kind of dual hoodscoop Mach 2 or something 68 or so Mustang convertible sitting by a business.

Several car lots dealing with cars of the 50's & 60's with an occasional 40's era car tossed in.
    Mostly 4-doors.
The owners do know what they're worth.

A 30's era Packard spread over a 1/4 mile of desert wash - and there ain't a part to be had that isn't ruined.

Hidden junkyards with many 50's & 60's era, and a few 40's cars.

The stuffs out here and in fair shape due to the dry climate.

Lots of interesting rumors as well, but those are a long story.

That's why it's still sittin where it's at!
I never did like a plethora restored coupe anyway!

Wrong, they all had the tank in the front. Looks to be a 30 to me, does not have the recess for the fuel outlet on the firewall.

That thing is pretty rough - I'm with C9, that is about all I would give for it. It is certainly not a "steal" in my eye. Looking at that from the perspective of someone who was patched together several A bodies, there is a ton of work to get that body back to square and doors swinging. subrails butchered, header gone, doors rotten off - as in gone from 3" down - I'm sure lower cowls and quarters not much better.

A frame and suspension is worth very little. Tons of NICE a bodies to be had for $2500 or so. There is a lot more than $1500 worth of work in that one.

$700 is absurd. Nobody on here is thinking correctly, all they hear is COUPE! and their critical thinking processes shut down. Think of how many less people on here would suggest purchasing it if the pile of***** happened to be a 1931 Ford pickup in similar condition. The coupe needs all the lower patch panels, a whole new rear panel under the trunk, a whole new trunk surround, and a floor. There isn't enough metal left to even consider using to hot rod.

This is what I can make out from looking at those pictures, I'm sure it needs door skins, a top insert, and windshield post work. Whats left of the ripped apart roof is all dented and rusted near the rear window.

$150 is about all I would even think of paying, and then only if I needed some parts off it. That thing is scrap metal. I have cut up nicer bodies to use for parts, and scrapped the rest.

Do everyone a favor and scrap that pile so the nice cars that are left go up in value.

Grab it, you KNOW you can make money on it, have you seen what banger motors are going for? You've got axles and a frame there too, all worth money. the body panels are woth something to somebody....If you do buy it and want to sell the frame, contact me. Maybe in some parts of the country you can stumble across this stuff all day, here in Michigan it's a rare find.

If the frame is good you could get 150 alone for it, your out of your mind.

If your realy think like that you should***** off and hit up some street rod site.

yeah, those Model A axles are worth a ton...the droppers will give $50 for them if they are straight and the kingpin and perch holes are PERFECT. Spend $30 worth of Oxy/Acet to get the perches out...

Model A suspension parts are nearly worthless. A local restored here in FL cleaned out shi shop - my brother bought him out - front and rear axle****emblies, brake drums, mech brake parts, wheels, tons of stuff you would not use on a hot rod from any period - $500 - this load was all you could stack on a 16' tandem car trailer. I'm not sure if my bro has gotten his money back yet.

Tim not everyone is a street rodder. In fact around here people typicaly hop up the 4 bangers and use the original suspension and components. you can build a realy cool prewar hot rod with those parts.

I would offer the guy $500. Then put it here in the classifieds and sell it for $1000 and make $500 profit.
Come on guys, if you are a sheetmetal guy then I'd say offer the guy $500. If not, walk away.
I looked a coupe that was much better than this and had a nicer frame (although the cowl and doors were gone) for $500 in Yuba City.
You will need to take the body totally apart, meaning quarter, top, the doors and going to need a lot of work, the top will need work, you have no wood in the car, there $500 for that, it looks like no interior, garnish mouldings.................just a ton of stuff that will cost money. Model A stuff is going up in price unless you haven't noticed. Try and buy all the interior top and body wood, or all the garnish moulding, or patch panels that fit correctly.
I paid $3500 for my Coupe in 04.....................try and buy a 99% rust free original body for that today.
That part about road trips, hell that's have the fun of finding a car. I made 15 hour round trip to pick up mine.
I'm with C9 and TimDavis, I vote to keep looking if you like Model A's.

    IMHO

    I
