So Im about to convert from 6 bolts to 12 bolts and was wondering about my rear end, will the 6 bolt rear I have handle the 12 bolt elecrtical system im gonna go with? Also, I was wondering if I need to get a 12 bolt main to go along with it. Also, where do I find this "main", I'm not sure what it looks like or what it does, but i've heard about them and just wonder if I need one. I just want to do it right is all...
Hehe, pardon my assery, I just fuggin wichas :).

Really just wanted to thank everybody here who has, and will give me usefull advice and information.
Also wanted to wish everybody a merry Christmas, happy Chanukah, prosperous kwanza, pleasant non-religious gift exchanging day, or a sufficient festivus.

You will probably need to upgrade to a 12 Bolt rear end. The 6 bolts are not rated to handle the current of a 12 bolt system and could burn out over time. If you are using a 6 cylinder engine, you will need to upgrade to a 12 cylinder. The first thing they teach you in Electrical engineering is Bolts = Cylinders x Gas Tanks.

    Merry christmas to you too.

Isn't 6 bolt smoke blue and 12 bolt black?

I don't think you can mix them...

I have 11 bolts on my valve covers. Should I change them to 12 bolts. I just hate these fancy new cars.

it all depends on if you brought your lunch or drove to work and I thought ya needed a 10 bolt for the 6 bolt unless you had 8

You 8 bolt guys should know that a good 6 bolt battry will start any 6 bolt axle if you file the points on your boltage regulator & set the boltage up to 7.8 bolts. Make sure it's drounded good with some big dround scraps.

If you're running the 8BA flathead you should upgrade to a military 24 bolt system. Just be sure to to step down boltage to 12, 8, and 4 bolt components.

    Merry Christmas!

Are those metric or regular bolts, I mean volts.

Don't forget to put a box of dirt in the trunk for ground.

if your bolt say's 10 .9 or 8.8 you're going to let the smoke out of your whickerbill or dumafligee! also I believe you're on the wrong website ...

I had the same problem when I put a 460 Caddy in my postal jeep. Solved the problem with a 2000 Gigawatt Flux Capacitor out of an rare turbine powered 59 Edsel Coupe. (Coupe had the police option engine)

  20. Stop! don't make the same mistake as i did. when you cross a 6 bolt rear with 12 bolt electrical it make you exhaust smell like pig manure and can possibly attract possums. if you keep convert to 12 bolt electrical and upgrade to the 9 bolt rear that will make your exhaust smell like BRUTtm attracting lovely young ladies. only 18 years of age and older.

  21. Everybody knows you gotsta use a 10 bolt 9 inch in your 8 bolt 440 if you're running a 6 bolt 6 pack on your oval square port round heads with the stock 4 bolt fan spacer and dual crab haters -- unless you've got a 6 bolt battery in a 12 bolt tray where you might want to run with three crab haters. Crab leaves your fingers smelling kind of fishy too so wash your hands.

You can use traditional square head bolts to convert, since each has 4 point heads.
Don't forget to torque them properly; tighten until it loosens, then back off half a turn...

  27. as far as the "main" goes, contact jim sibley. he's the only one i know of that makes them out of hickory like the factory does. if you contact him before 10pm, you pick them up by 8am the next morning.
