I love how the ultra hardcore elitists piss and whine over something as simple as a tractor shell. Sure I don't like em but im not gonna go out of my way to bag another hamber or his car over it.

Leave it to the HAMB to bring out the armchair cowboys.

And I like what was done with those grills. At least you're using your imagination instead of following a crowd like a good little conformist.

    For the original poster...

It takes a little vision, but some of these tractor grilles start to look like Track T noses if you shrink 'em enough. The Cockshutt grill would be cool shrunk down. If you shrink it down enough it'll just say Cock lol....

Oh... and this doesn't look like a car grill at all: ....

Obviously not EVERY tractor shell will look good. Alot of them will look like crap on a car. BUT. Some of them can be tweaked enough to look great.

    Don't use this one :D :

here is my grill. it is a 1952 case vac grill. i was going to go with a 32 ford grill but that is 450 with insert.this was 45.00. if you dont like it you have the free speach to bitch about it. if you love great, you have the free speach as well. i like it because it flows with the car,and its different. the car is a 1932 chevy 5 window coupe a rare car in itself. i'm building a 425 nailhead with a gear drives ltd log type intake with 4 rochester 2bl carbs.also i got the switch pitch turbo 400 with it as well.[IMG]

Interprete it however you like. As TOAST stated, he didn't want your opinion.

Hey guys, chill out. I started this thread because I have seen some tractor grills that I really like, design-wise and I think look really cool on some hot rods, particularly lakes roadsters with inline engines.
In my opinion, Crusty Nut's car is very cool and would still be cool if it had a 32 Ford grill..but it would then look like 90% of the hot rods around.
While tractor grills may not fall within the narrow bounds of "traditional style", their use shows imagination and personal expression which lies at the base of hot rodding.
Controversy and difference in personal taste is ok, if kept within the bounds of civility.
Yes, I like them and would like to see more.

To each his own... It's impossible to argue over opinion, so there's no point in trying.

Hey #1 , How about some more info on your car. I am a fan of the Morgan 3 wheeler - is this custom built or a Morgan with mods.

    Thanks, Reece

Alternative grille shells are cool. What about the Herc shell on Lindross's Krylon special? And how 'bout that "Sea King" cleaner. :D

  20. Isn't building a "traditional rod" about doing something friggin' DIFFERENT? If CrustyNut had not told you that was a tractor shell and it had no emblem on it, you would be wondering what car or truck that had come off of and praised his choice of such a neat rad shell!

Those others look great, too, BTW. They are just friggin' sheet metal! One is off a car, one is off a tractor...so what! If you don't like them, find another post, already! WTF, over?

Actually no, not at all... Or maybe you need to look up the definition. There are very very few tractor grills I think look ok, a real car grill looks much better than 99% of them. And there are plenty of options, no one ever sid you had to use a Ford grill, especially when it's not even a Ford. I have a nice Buick grill that I'm planning on sectioning for my roadster, it's a Buick too.

  24. Looks great!

I think hotrods and tractors go hand and hand...

I don't know about you guys, but I'd hate to use one of those Cockshutt grilles as I'd hate to have that on the front of my car.

Because you don't like how it looks? Or because you don't like that it says "Cockshutt?"

I'm building a little roadster pickup that I traded for. It had a Farmall tractor grill shell on it when I got it. About half the people that came thru and looked at before I started on tried to talk me into leaving it on there. I guess it looks ok if that what you like, I just don't like the look. I had a few different A model shells to choose from, and thats what I went with. The whole look of the truck was all wrong, I guess the grill shell just added to it. It's all different now and I think it looks better. IMHO.

Here's a couple of pictures before and after. What do you think?

Probably cause it says Cockshutt on it. I just think it'd look goofy on a car..
I guess you could chop it out and weld it in.

  29. Oh, yes, I guess that is part of the flat-black Ford club, then. My bad. Dare to be the same.
