One of the things that strikes me about this thread is how in years past, guy would build some really funkie lookin' stuff all in the quest for speed. Art Arfons, multi-engined, 3-wheeled and so forth. It seems that guys can now go fast without the unusual engineering!!!

This thread still rocks....blows my skirt up everytime I check it!!!!!

I'm just sayin'.....A guy in the next town got squished doin' that and a buddy here in town (who knew better) barely got out in time. We've all done it.........DON'T DO IT!

OK, back to our regularly scheduled program!

That's why you always keep one hand on the rocker panel when you don't need it for anything else - so's you can pull yourself out of the way if the car starts to slide off...

Was anybody else at Maple Grove for this one? Jim Bucher forgot that he was still in reverse when he engaged the clutch. That was one hell of a bang and you could hear the collective "Oh Shit" over the engine noise.

  21. Thanks for this picture! Pete Teresa became a high school math teacher. Guess who was in his freshman math class? Me! We used to talk cars at break time. Pete and his brothers had quite a reputation in the 50's. When he found out I was building a roadster, we were pals. I got an A in math that year.

This car served as the only classic Road Runner bodied that I can think of. The following year, Marv Eldridge, owner of Fiberglass Trends, bought it and proceeded to mount a Challenger body on it and dubbed it the LA Challenger, and set off on the Coke Circuit

I guess you've gotta do what ever it takes to get an "A"...haha
    Great story!

  24. Pete was a great teacher. All the kids in his class got good grades. He made it interesting. That class was the only non shop class I ever liked in school. Only time in my life I didn't want the school year to end. Went to a different high school the next 3 years, and never saw Pete again.

Steve and Terry are good friends of mine. Note that Steve's car has a #1 in the window--he was the first ever NHRA Super Gas national champion.
They are both still racing in S/G, Terry in a Cavalier and Steve in a 2000 Corvette that I built for him about 8 years ago. Their dad started it all--he was the Eckard of the famed Eckard and Kirk Anglia back prior to the Rod Shop team.

The black Anglia #642 is my old car, I built, painted and lettered it all in my single car garage that I was also working out of doing lettering and pinstriping. When a customer would bring a vehicle over I would have to push it out into the snow to make room. I think I drove it from 1983 to 1986, Ahh the good old days.

I believe that shot was from the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona.

I don't know the year, but here's another shot with a FOR SALE on it.

Maybe that will nail down the year for you.

    Glad you enjoyed the photos...

    This is a great thread...
