This batch is soooo cool. My uncle handled his camera like a gunslinger! No digital point-and-shoot cheating!

Doesn't look right. I think it should be lowered.

The late Joe Winter was heading into the lights at 208 mph in his "Swinger 1" funny car when something funny happened. I was watching him through a 400 mm lens on my Mamiya/Sekor 35mm SLR, not expecting to take his picture, when suddenly I thought, "hey, this is picture-worthy!". I started shooting.

Chris Karamesines had been experimenting with some new-fangled sheet metal, but quickly discarded it, which is why his new car looks incomplete.

I like the front end on that Tijuana Taxi. Wonder if he had any bump-steer issues?

    Great pics!

The beautiful Sien and Lankford "Brand X" funny car was from San Antonio, Texas. Crisp Mustang lines on the outside, big Dodge Ramchargers engine inside.

Photographer Steve Reyes gets a close-up as "Mr. C" prepares for a run. Gary Cochran was one of the hottest rails around and even beat Big Daddy Garlits earlier in 1971. Best run ever for this car was 6.38 at 234 mph.

The injected hemi-powered RED on the near side was the "Outcast", running DeSoto power of about 300 cubic inches.
