Jeez, the guy was just asking where he could find pictures of tractor noses. The traditional rodding I remember involved using whatever parts you could find and driving the shit out of whatever you had, bad brakes, loose steering or whatever. And helping other guys who were interested in cars, whether their ideas were the same as yours or not. Sure, some guys had the bucks (usually from their daddies) to have late model brakes and steering, but not many. Most of us started with 50 dollar junkers we put on the road as fast as we could, safe or not. Would the cars we had in those days now not be considered "traditional" because they were, in fact, pos's?

Funny, a lot of those guys with money looked down their noses at the younger and broker guy's cars back then, too. If they were the original traditional rodders, looks like their spirit lives on.

  9. Great response!! I'm with ya!! I think that Ryan needs to get this board back on track of what it is supposed to be. Not a lot of old cranky guys that think there stuff is better. This should be a place to hang out, talk old cars and help one another figure out problems. NOT BASH EVERYBODY for being different!!

  10. You know what is ironic? Many of us are younger by hotrod standards(under 40) and dont want to see another fad as bad as the Pro-street Pastel shit we had to live through in our formative years that the magazines and NSRA promoted. This board has parameters, enjoy em or leave. OSR NEEDS the extra swingin meat anyway.

  11. And in your brief time here.........if you think the board is off track.........well you just dont get it:confused:, kinda like the Jeep thing. Merry Christmas and see ya.

Who are you to say the H.A.M.B is derailed? Be carefull what you wish for. Rust, spider webs, and tractor grilles have nothing to do with traditional hot rodding.

If ya stick around rodding long enough, you'll see lots of fads you don't like. To each his own, and I certainly wasn't knocking HAMB. Just wondering why a guy can't ask an honest question without getting feathers ruffled.

  14. Honest questions are fine. When they fall into the scope of the board. But, if folks take the time to read and learn what this board is about, as in traditional Pre 64 rods and customs, they will see their shit dont fly if they delve into the perimeter fads of the car world. And we will call them on it, period.

Well put, Tman, but I doubt the rat rodders on here understand the difference between trad-style hot rods/customs and rat rods...

Tman is right, guys. To each his own- and the HAMB's own is traditional rods and customs, which spider webs and tractor grill shells have no place in.

  19. I don't if this will actually work, but its worth a try.

TO ANY ADMINISTRATORS LISTENING: FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS GREAT AND SMALL, PLEASE OPEN UP THE CYBER CLOUDS AND STRIKE DOWN THIS THREAD, PIERCING ITS HEART WITH A MIGHTY VENGEANCE. KILL! DIE! KILL!! LET THIS BE THE LAST POST----PLEEEEASE!!!! (climbing off my soapbox/pulpit) Thanks, D.

Using a tractor, forklift, or and industrial or stationary engine radiator shell on a hot rod does not make sense unless the "hotrod" IS a tractor, forklift or industrial or stationary engine.

This "fad" is strictly limited to the ratrod set and their hangers-on. There is no traditional hot rod justification for this.

Ooh, my bad, didn't notice the ONE pic where it still didn't have front brakes, the other pic has brakes on the front and I have never seen it without brakes. However lotsa Gassers don't run front brakes and probably go a lot faster, plus they run smaller front tires and weigh more. MY MAIN POINT "AGAIN" WAS. the guy just asked for pics and got, maybe 5 in as many pages. Also, I think the there was a lot of unsafe real traditional rods built in "The Day" anyway as some of the guys that were actually around then can andf have mentioned that fact already. I just don't understand the trash talk from people that all enjoy a similar hobby/lifestyle? The "Tradition Police" need to be a little more open minded when it comes to Opinions

blah blah blah... yeah there was lots of crap built back in the day, post pics of that stuff and we'll tear it apart to. No front brakes on the street is plain unsafe, i.e. stupid, the majority of your braking power is in the front, not running them is unsafe, it puts everyone at risk. Saying that some Gassers didn't have front brakes doesn't take into account that most of those were strictly race cars, and smaller sized tires that were designed for cars are different than motorcycle tires. Motorcycle tires are not made to have the forces a car puts on the sidewall. They are unsafe and stupid as well. If you don't want opinions and flak about what is or wasn't traditional don't post it on the HAMB, that's what this place is all about. Now you can whine and cry about it all you want, but that is the way it is. Even with the kinder gentler HAMB you're gonna catch some flak. Now back to the drama, at least it's entertaining.

  26. Gassers are purpose built race cars ... driving a car on the street with no front brakes is just plain stupid! ... and btw, "back in the day" street driven cars without front brakes were labeled "stupid" as well.

The Ross grill looks AWESOME on the model A! It almost looks like it was made for that. But I guess you could put a '32 grill and a SBC in to be like all the other followers out there!!

  30. This thread kills me (and can't believe is hasn't been closed yet).

I for one like and appreciate all kinds of cars [Hot Rods of the 40's, 50's, & 60's (what some would label "Traditional"), Street Rods of the 70's to present, Customs / Kustoms, 60's Show Rods, Brass Era cars, Restorations, Drag cars, LSR cars, Muscle cars, American & European Sports cars, etc., etc.] ... heck, I even like some cars with tractor grille shells (e.g., Dreadman's Nash Roadster)

... SO please don't label me an "Elitist" or a "Trad Policeman" just because I don't find anything redeeming about a TRASH ROD (aka, RAT ROD) like this:

I think KIRK! said it pretty well in the "OUTKASTS" Car Show---Mitchell, SD photos thread:
