I love the Atomic Punk, but am torn as to what camp it really belongs in.....
Norwell's pickup get's it for me, although Myke's '32 is plenty sweet. May Cause Dangerous is neat, for sure......these contests are LAME-O!

Can't we just be good little socialists and say EVERYONE'S car is SPECIAL and UNIQUE!
    ....uhhh, yeah.

There are people out there who can do the work on their cars 100%. Yea, they may have had help with a few things... but they still did the work themselves.
I mean come on, the HAMB is so avid about "builders" doing shit on their cars themselves... there has to be someone out there that lives up to these high expectations.
Pick a car that has function, and not just something that looks good.
Pick a car that would resemble something straight from the era it was built for, and not use any other parts on it newer than that particular era.
Pick a car that can represent everything that this board is truly about. Not just jumping on the bandwagon with whatever everyone else is mentioning.
Be a leader and not a follower, lets see some different nominations.:D

    1. A-D Truckers

Based on VonDust's latest, I'm nominating this:

My son and I are building it. He's 15 3/4 and started about 3 years ago with a cab from D Patterson and a too long frame from Kustombuilder. He's shortened and welded the frame, put the motor and trans in, been pulling wires and building his seat mounts. I've helped all I can and if we get our shit together, we'll fire it before New Years!! His debut was at Detroit Billetproof and he's got lots of plans. He draws this truck about 5 times per week and has amassed enough parts to build a second truck.

Maybe not this year, but watch for next year!!!

You want to see if it represents what we stand for here, read the first page of this thread and then watch him build it!!

    As for MercDeUce
I think its pretty tough to have car completely built 100% by the owner..the last I recall
that happend was ROLF's Build.. I think it would be cool if there is ...I just can't recall
someone on here doing everything from frame build to Upholstery themself...

    For Evel,
There's close to 60,000 members on this board. Lots of new blood, new cars, nice cars. Finding two that are basically homebuilt shouldn't be too big of a deal. maybe I went a little overboard saying that the owner had to also do the paint and interior. But I think you get my drift and it sounds like we are on the same page. MDM

    (Quote,)
I also think Conteders should have built the car on the HAMB documenting the whole
build... there might be contenders that just post finished pictures and I don't think
    that qualifies for HAMB Car..

    For Evel,
Not a bad idea, but just my own opinion, don't think the entire build has to be documented step by step on the HAMB. I for one don't have the time required to post, patience on the computer or the need for positive reinforcement from the HAMB to build a car to suit my own tastes. MDM

    (Quote,)
Also dose the car have to be finished? cause there is a whole lotta projects that are not
done like Bass's Roadster that will be the hit in 09...along with Moriatitys Dream Rod..
    he's got it made...

    For Evel,
I don't think a car has to be finished, hence my reference to Mark Ford's A coupe. Most of the best Hotrods aren't necessarily finished cars. Now Customs, that's another story. The engine compartments and trunks might need to be considered as most customs are nicely finished vehicles. MDM

It's all good. No matter what your car is or where you live. We are all car people and there really is no need to pick one hotrod and one custom to be the HAMB cars of the year. Considering what I have seen in past years, in the end, it's just a popularity contest anyway.

There was a 5 window coupe at this years Cinematic, had a nailhead in it with a whole lot of cool handmade pieces on it. Anyone get a picture of it? Damn nice car and I'm pretty sure the guy built it. MDM

Another one comes to mind is the truck built by the guy on here who just started repopping the EJ's. MDM

Another is DSiddons on the board. His red Model A coupe got the Shifters Pick at the Road Rockets Rumble '08. He built this entire car, paint and upholstery included. (Axle, you got any pictures?) Do a search of DSiddons or the Rumble and you will see the car. This is a prime example of a car that qualifies for Hotrod of the Year from a very humble homebuilder. MDM

    Later guys,

  10. OK, I'm throwing my custom vote to Kirk.

I'd have to say limiting it to non-builders or homebuilt is bullshit. Just my opinion. I'd have to throw some weight to May Cause Dangerous, Live Wire, Atomic Punk, and I could dig up a few others, those stick in my head right now. Not allowing in the most talented of the builders on here because they may make a living or someone that had some of the stuff farmed out is a load. Let the best man and/or car win....

Just another thing especially concerning Live Wire, in my mind the HAMB built that car. A lot of the friendships between the people involved in that build came about here on the HAMB. I'd have to say that alone gives it a little bit extra...

As mentioned Flamedabones Merc is in there, though I think he should be required to keep something for 2 weeks after building it..... :D:D:D

I think a reasonable car for the best custom should at least be chopped along with finished engine compartments and trunks. But that's just my opinion.:D

But the Blue Model A Coupe and the chopped Merc... good nominees.

Chopped? what about sectioned but not chopped? I don't see why it would have to be chopped. And traditionally customs didn't really have the most detailed engine compartments.

  20. May cause should get best paint for sure.
I dig Live Wire, but what about that dark blue coupe with the gold Packard caps, now that was a nice coupe.......or was that last years car :\

  21. Von Dust you make some valid points. I like the Black Jimmy powered coupe becuase it is a Chevy with an Inline, even if I am not really an Inline fan and the car just looks right. That's not to take anything away from Live Wire. I love that coupe also. I picked the Chevy because of it's difference.

On the other hand, I chose Kirk's 60 Ford because it is such a throw back with the mild custom touches and the the paint job. I love chopped Mercs but they are everywhere you turn around. May Cause Dangerous, isn't nor is the Chevy coupe and they are both very well built and turn heads.

Again, not to take away for any other of the choices. Just my own opinion.

Real kustoms don't have finished engines.

  23. If they looked finished they didn't have innards.

You're right Kirk. Kustoms with a 'K' didn't, or don't have finished engine compartments.
But I'm talking about Customs with a 'C'.
I just can't justify puting all of my time and money into my car without making the engine compartment look as good as the outside. I'm sorry if that's not the trendy thing now, but it was back then, and that's how my Custom '55 Desoto is going to be.
I'm a lttle partial to '60 Fords anyhow. I just got done doing the tri-tone metalflake paint and body on Tom Culbertson's '60 Ford Station Wagon.
The Blue lace job you have on your Ford, I love it. And I loved it when I did it on my '64 Caddy two years ago. Your car is very nice.

hunh? my understanding is that customs (with a C) back in the day didn't open their hoods because they didn't have more than the stock engine in there. Of course that may be the old guys telling stories...

There's a lot of outstanding cars here! However, the Atom Punk reminds me of when I was a kid checking out what kind of model I was going to spend my money on. Has anyone mentioned the Cisco Kid's radical Stude, yet ?
