Nice work, will you be using 2 brackets for each shock?

those look great. the diameter of the last hole seems a little big to me though..
the steel get kinda thin at that point.

Thanks for the input...I haven't started on the other 3 yet so I'll just go with the 1 1/8th for the lower hole instead of the 1 1/4

I would say even smaller. like the middle hole should be your biggest hole.

You could leave the holes as they are if you were to use tubing thru the holes to make a modular unit rather that just 2 uprights. Diagonal bracing or boxing wouldnt be necessary.

when laying out speed holes, the width of the material between the holes should stay constant, not the centre to centre distance. You'll find this method looks a lot more pleasing to the eye. the way you have layed it out and chosen your hole sizes says to me you need to spend some time looking at others designs before cutting steel!
your biggest hole shoudnt be any bigger than 50 % of the width of the material at the hole centre. keep going and show us your improvements!

Like the others said let more meat on the bottom. Just for shits and giggles now that you have a metal piece to work on and look at instead of paper. Try smallin' the top diameter down closer to the same diameter as the shock's top. That will let you start the curve down father on the side of the bracket towards the middle of the car.
With the top bein' as big as it is and all of the holes with two of them they may end up lookin' look top heavy.
just a thought 'cause I like thinkin' about this stuff...

    Hey 9Inch,
You will get a bunch of ideas by askin' the HAMBers what we think. Thanks for askin' this is givin' me a chance to try to learn to copy, modify, and post off of your post.
What would you guys think of the shock bracket bein' 1/2" thick with a gusset part way up it instead of two pieces to each shock. It's not a coil- over.

I'm not into speed holes but, I see what lowsquire is sayin' about the material between the holes.
    Damn, I like this place...

Perfect I would say. Much stronger than your first one and still looks good.

  17. Very nice, I have tended to use 1 1/2 box and just open it out and shaped it to make the same thing, but this is a better looking job

The shock mounts look great...the only thing I would question is will you have enough shock travel so they don't bottom out when all the weight is on them..and you hit a hole...... I have about 4 inches travel on my 33 pickup ....

  22. i'ld have to ask the same thing..my super bell with pete n jakes shocks and mounts, my shocks are all the way extended without motor weight on frame...your set up looks like it has motor weight, but i don't see a motor???how hig are ya off the frame top??

They look fully extended to me. If you check out the first photo, they're very short shocks.

Set up correctly (under the full weight of the car) 2/3rds of the shock arm (?) should be exposed. Allowing 1/3rd for extension and 2/3rd's for compression of the shock.

Another word of advice, I'd mount that shock the the spring perch or wishbone, not to the spring itself.
