Was shaking out the rust from the inside of the door on my '28 chevy and checked the dust, rust and rotten wood and found a very beat up 1863 indian head penny. Not worth much but pretty cool! Jim
A civil war era coin? I'm not a collector but you might want to check out the value before sticking it in a gumball machine. Lucky find - maybe it's worth more than the car !!
That's kinda funny, I am building a 28 chevy coach and in the passenger door when I was cleaning it out. I found a 1911 mercury dime, and a 1928 wheat penny. Both in mint condition. The kids must of used chevys as there piggy banks, when the cars were new...ghost
When replacing a small section of the rocker box in my '57 Ford, I found a 1957 penny. The rocker box was completely enclosed so there was no way it had fallen in there. I wonder if some worker at the factory thought it'd be cool to stick a new penny in there before he welded it up.
When working at the BMW dealer some years back, we used to find beer bottles, German porn, news papers, and other stuff crammed under the rear seats of the new cars coming off the truck. some beer bottles were full. Seems this was most prevalent in the cars built during and near Oktoberfest. Pretty funny. nothing was placed to be hazardous, we had to take out the seat to get the plastic off them while doing the pre delivery inspections.
In my model A i found some change from the '50s to the '70s, a boy scout hunting knife, some fishing gear, a .22 , a .38 and a 12 ga shell, a fountain pen, a dime store ring, and a dead rat.
In 1969 I was working for Carter VW in Ballard Wa. lube & oil man and had to adjust brakes also. Found 2 lb's of great "smoke" in a front hubcap of a VW bus!
The only thing intersting thing I've found was from the door of a '36 Chevy sedan I got way back in highschool ('74). I was doing basically the same thing, banging on the door to shake loose the rust and dirt when a small swarm of wasps came out to avenge the disturbance. One of the little bastards got me. One can of Raid later they all paid the price.
I pulled the original interior out of my model A and what did I find back by the window? A wasp nest, but I was lucky because it was very old and crumpled upon me taking a screwdriver to it.-Weeks
I found an unopened Budweiser in my El Camino. Unfortunately it was from 2003 so not really that cool. Also found an old oil can and a tire tool behind the seat of my 56, the oil can in the kind with a spout that you use to oil a hinge or something like that.
all my car had in it were cat turds. how many cat turds does it take to buy a can of Krylon black? maybe I should have kept them.
when I was working on my 31 Ford Coupe, I found a 1930 and 1931 penny in the door. I thought it was pretty cool... Good Luck I suppose.
Hey that's cool, I'd have a clear shift knob made up with the penny inside, paint the car copper and name it, "Lucky Penny"!
I worked as an apprentice at the BMW factory in Munich in 1960-61. They had beer vending machines around the plant, and it was perfectly acceptable to drink beer on your break or during lunch. Maybe some guys on the assembly line had a few too many!
I found a bunch of beer in the rear spare tire area of a wagon I bought and a bag of pot under the seat. The wagon had been taking away from the kid buy Dad and sold.I was sure glad I did not get pulled over on the way home.
I bought a 1974 monte carlo once, with an original 454, swivel bucket seats, you know the works. I did the usual once over after I got it home. When I opened the glove box, there in perfect condition was the original owners manual and three copies of the factory build sheet listing all the options installed. Shame I was stupid and didnt keep that car.
I found, right in the middle of my last car a hugh hole that thousands of my dollars seemed to fall through. Maybe I should have put a 'money' pan under there to catch it. Doc
