I had a Caddy imported from the U.S, and all I got was an ashtray full of butts. And I don't even smoke. Are they worth anything?
When I took apart my 37 chevy p/u I found a old reciept with the original owners company name and a unopened rolled up The Watchtower (or whatever it was called) from those religious people who come knocking on your door from 1958 under the seat. Jeff
When I worked at a Chevy dealer when checking in new cars I found a impact wrench, electric radiator fan, various tools, lots of chrome interior screws, lunches soda cans extra emblems.
i can't remember what type of car it was, but my dad was working at a chevy dealer ship in the early 70's. i guy bought a brand new car, and had it back multiple times because of a rattle. eventually, they found a bottle stuffed inside the frame rail with nuts, screws, washers, and note inside that said "i hope you had fun finding this rattle".
Found an entire rolled up newspaper from 6 June 1944...Had HUGE coverage of the D-Day invasion. Still got it, 40 Pontiac is gone., Oh...and a scorpion in a car I bought from AZ. Still got it, car is gone...
I opened the door to a 53 Chevy pickup and our ran a rather large rat, but he was in such a hurry he left his turds behind. Next time my first stop is a quarter wash and flush the whole thing out.
I found the original owners manual in my '66 Mustang, and written on the first page was the original owners name and address. Turns out they lived a few blocks down from my wife's grandparents in Roswell and were family friends!
I knocked a 47 lb chunk of Bondo out of the driver's door of my '62 Chevy pickup and found Jimmy Hoffa.
A few things in different cars: * bought a used '65 Mustang convertible in '72, driving it home down a rough dirt road, 2 joints fell out from under the dash; * while prepping a new '73 Galaxy 500 the mech/tech found a 2x4 holding up the right side window, and all the parts to roll it up inside the door, lying at the bottom. * in about '79 a new LTD comes in, owner had it only a day or 2, complains about something wrong with the electrical. Mech/Tech tears into it, has the dashboard nearly in pieces troubleshooting when he finds a small scrap of paper stuffed 'way up in, with a pin attached to it - and running thru 2 or 3 wires. Scrawled on the note "bet it took awhile to find this one". * About '74 or '75 a mechanic was pulling the engine out of a used F100 for an overhaul. He drops the oilpan and a comb & a pair of scissors are in it, probably since new.
I bought a 64 vw bug in 1976 in pensacola florida right after "A" school. Transfered to Albq. I drove it all the way, working on it as I went. I took out the spare and found an envelope taped to the inside and contained therein was 5 $100 dollar bills. $100 VW bug, free road trip and motels instead of sleeping in rest areas with mosquitos.
under the seat of a 1964 galaxie 500 found nude pics of guys wife posing on top, inside and around the car. They are too filthy to post on this sight. I bought the car at canfield from a guy going through a divorce. sold car kept pics.........
I bought a 68 firebird conv. a couple years back that had several of those pens from vaction spots. The ones you tilt back and forth and the little things move in the liquid, kinda cool that they were road tripping the car on vacations.
I don't remember finding anything too interesting in my '57. A lot of dried up lizards, though. I thought that was pretty strange, since we don't have that many lizards up in North Texas. In my '63 there were quite a few interesting bits: 1. An old vinyl record. (pretty much melted by the Oklahoma sun.) 2. A baby bottle. (?) 3. A lot of hairpins. 4. A lot of loose change, albeit it nothing rare or expensive. 5. A license plate frame that said "OFFICIAL MAFIA STAFF CAR" I think that was all of the interesting stuff.
My 38' had 36' fenders/grill, a 50's 3-speed trans, a couple of chevy hood ornaments, and a dead cat in the bed. Corn cobs in the engine compartment, soil beans in the ashtray, and a lot of rat shit (2 inches deep under the seat :[ ). Took a year and a lot of grinding and cleaning to get rid of that barn smell. The 53' had 1960's lie detector release forms signed by the employees from an oil company in AL.
I found an old ½ SK breaker bar in a 68 Tbird, one side of the end was broken off. I told a counter guy at the local auto store what I found, he said bring it in, its warrantied. I got a new breaker bar out of that deal.
Mr Haney, then PM em to some of us!! 345 Desoto, they must not print papers like they do today because these days it would have been June 7th coverage of Dday. and all I found in my truck was the old dead battery and some HF 1/2" socket wrench set. Darn it.
HOLY CRAP. Been posting on here for a few years now and make one little comment and get all this response. I guess it's which nerve you hit! Love the idea about the clear acrylic shifter. Will have to look into it. Jim
Found a basic 1953 penny in the back seat of my Model A Sedan several years ago, along with a really ornate sterling silver with Garnet (wish it was a Ruby) stone. Looks like it might have been a little girl's ring. Pretty cool anyway. Found some .50 cal. links in the back of the '43 Diamond T Half Track I just picked up. . .now that's HEAVY METAL!!
He, he, When I was doing a frame-off on a '31 chivvy in '96 I took an old worn out wallet I had and put a dollar bill in it, stuck it way back under the back seat frame when I was closing it up. I sold the car in '03. Might entertain somebody someday.................. We find all sorts of stuff in old cars, when I had that '31's gas tank off I found one of those 'gas mileage enhancer' devices they used to toss in the tank, along with a couple of rocks.
Agreed. After spending short bursts holding my breath vacuuming out a '57 BMW for a couple hours after initially acquiring, I made my way to the rear partial shelf - which held a surprise. Mummified animal; skin, whiskers, tail, etc. Looked like a large cat. Car had been on blocks since 1976 in a barn and hadn't moved. Locked. So I phoned the previous owner and asked if any pet cats had gone missing about that time...nope! A friend shows up whose uncle was in forensics. Turned out to be a male opossum. How it got into the car is a mystery. I have pictures somewhere.
While gutting a customer's car, I found a few 'health clinic' receipts. One was for Herpes. Not a car but: While tearing the plaster out of a 100 yr old house I am rebuilding, I found a newspaper in the wall dated Tuesday April 13th, 1926. I found it on Tuesday April 13th 2004!
