I could really give a **** about gold chainers or anyone elses reasons or wants when it comes to cars or bikes.. The old guys you speak of need to adjust thier aditudes im thinking.. Im 57 .. Ive done the hot rods thing for a long time and yes ive done total junk to nice stuff rebuilds and started from scratch also.. I dont have a problem with gl*** cars and i dont have a problem with the chainers as long as they are truthful about thier cars . In fact since my 32 coupe was all new with a gl*** body and **** and not a used part on it i guess i could be one except I built the thing...:D I dont ******** anyone and havent about that.. Honesty is best.. Im kinda curious though how your biker buddys knew all these orthodonists ? Maybe they shoulda waited a awhile to buy harleys and got their teeth fixed first . It prolly would have been cheaper in the long run and they could have got newer bikes and then they would have one up on the other guys.. :D
I ride for enjoyment and also use mine most all of the summer for transportation to work and back.. Nope it aint no trendy thing for me.. I ride and have the scars to prove it..
Lets see where were we????? Oh ya steel 32 ford bodys.... Only takes money.
    Dave;)
PS: common biker term is RUB... Rich Urban Biker...

Even though I'm new I've already found out what I love about the h.a.m.b.. You guys and some gals are funnier than the comedy channel on cable t.v. Somebody ask a question that they think is fairly intelligent and its off to the races with opinions and smart *** remarks. But hey, don't stop I love sitting back and reading it all. Happy New Year.

With the prices what they are today, it pays to keep an eye open when traveling the back roads. They are still out there..

  4. Good un, well said.

I'd rather be known as a roadster nut than a coupe guy who left his car home.

Funny thing last Saturday, I had the only hot rod at donuts....:D

I recently ordered some parts from Brookville (I buy the bodies un***embled) and they offered me a choice of ***embled 32 bodies that they had from canceled dealer orders.

People used to live in caves, too and died early from diseases that modern tech can cure.

I see you've evolved beyond cave dwelling, so why be so hard on people that have eveolved beyond the most primitive of cars?

You/we have the luxury of choosing to drive a primitive car with no weather protection. But there's nothing wrong with wanting an old car that has some modern upgrades. I mean, your "hot rod" isn't still stock and SLOW, is it? It has the convenience of an engine that makes real power, and tires that don't go flat on a daily basis like the stockers of the era were known for. So what, really is the difference in having a bit of real weather protection on a vintage convertible? Best of both worlds, which, contrary to your example, a Lexus is not.

A gold chainer is not someone who wants modern conveninces in an old car, but merely someone who pays a lot of money to have someone else build a car for him. And they are in every car genre, from hot rods to Porsches.

Steel is real ,fake is fake, prices are going down on the real ones. I have seen 32 drivers under 40k and a 32 body is just that! You'll need a whole lot more to move the body down the road:D. The **** is not moving like it was sorry .. Don't really understand what your saying jusjunk??

Nope.. I have been to the plant and you would need a larger press then they have. Plus I kinda know were they do stamp them:D and it's at a few places for the body and parts.

Although you are right that they get some of their stamping from companies in Detroit. I have heard in various articles that they are capable of pressing any of the parts they require it is just more efficient and I would ***ume more cost effective to get them done else where.

The Roadster Panels definitely are, but I am told that the whole sides of the 32 3W are stamped @ the same company that stamps SAR's 34 3W's as they take an extremely large press in order to stamp that whole side.
Murray did it in sections with small presses, thats why Chevy/GM (Who had larger presses) made a big deal about having the all metal Turret Top verses Ford soft top.
If you look @ the sides that are delivered to both Brookville and SAR on pallets the look similar. That company has been around fo 50 + years.
They do proto typework for the big 3 and in the 80's sold the 1st steel 32 roadster albeit of the bow tie brand. EMI also stamps all of the tri five chevy panels and make a complete body for both 55-57's that have tighter tolerances and metal that is rust prohibitive through a chemical bath.
They also make the 1st gen Camaro bodies that Dyna-Corn sells as well as others and the 67 Mustang fastback. SAR and Brookville contract for these operations just like the big 3 would and it isn't cheap to have tooling made for a limited production body.

So the stamping facility is in MI.;)

After a google web search I still cant come up with a price on the un***embled Brookville bodies. What is the price[roadster & 3 window]??thanks

  19. I have had a deposit with brookville on a 3 window body for almost 3 years. I am going to change my order to a un-***embled body and have Bobby Walden chop it and put it together.

I toured the place that does the 27 roadster body that Jon Hall has a hand in down that way and they very well could be doing some of brookville's stuff too.. They have some giant presses. To see em make a fat tire fender for a chopper in one draw is pretty damn impressive.. They did quite a bit of hi end one off stuff too and they were also working on (at the time i was there like 5 years ago)the new ford gt 40? or whatever its called..

HA HA HA Dave I Bet Real good money you have a street rod shop:D. Dark ages HA HA HA , your right I drive a Old old car every day!! I guess I am a caveman ,no raido, heat work like **** , no defrost and BiPlys:eek:. I got nothing about repo steel or gl*** cars. I do like them both and would own them both. In fact I would love to own a gl*** 32 3w or 5w so I can drive her in the winter months snow & salt . I'm just saying call a pig a pig = repo is repo and don't like when folks match apples with watermelons:confused::D. They can stamp the metal bodies till the end of time or till the market slows. I think that is what happened and prices dropped a bit.
I got nothing on the Rich or Poor urban Bikers and what they do is up to them. I just wish the next guy the best of luck , cars are like music - We don't have to like all the styles.

Well i see you really do have a sense of humor.. I like that.... Nope no shop here. I just build em when I want to and when I dont im doing something else... If id had been smart id have collected **** years ago but then id have lost most of it in the divorce.. Lost part of my *** anyway :)...
My problem is when i do build a car i dont go cheap or half ***ed and they usually turn out too nice to drive .. Well the last coupe did anyway.. Then I built the 32 roadster and when it was all said and done it just wasnt me? So im carless and not really planning anything right now... The other part was i was riding my harley so much and going to so many sprint car races that the car just sat.. Thats not good either.. Im not giving up on the hobby just taking a break.. If the right deal comes along i have the cash put away but i wont buy a finished car unless its a real deal on a 56 chevy.. Id rather build one i get more satasfaction out of the build.. And id for sure do a steel 32 if the price was right.. But id never rule out a nice gl*** car either..
See i did get back to the steel 32 part... :D

This may be one of the most accurate answer yet ... if dealers are cancelling their orders ... the supply had exceeded the demand at the price they cost. :) Bodies already delivered ... would lose value also.

I am sure that the current economic climate has a good bit to do with the lack of demand. A lot of projects are on slow down or hold. New projects are being delayed and cars are not selling.

Hopefully ... this will change in the not too distant future :)

i think the question was why are they for sale un built ...one of the reasons when brookville started taking orders years ago it was a couple of grand down and i think the cost was 20k, now retail is 25k some people decided they may or may not want them, they can either sell their spot in line or buy it when done and sell at profit , same thing happend with the roadster i think orig they were like 8.5k or 9k

Great Thread! Takes some of the mystery out of the repop 3/W Steel Panels.
Does anybody have any experience with mating the Brookville 1/4 Panels to a Gennie Henry Body?

  28. Probably would be better to ask that in a new thread than bump this 18-month old one, because like 90% of people will read the first few posts and reply without noticing how old it is, and never see your question.
