If money was no object.....a hot rod built out of a super swoopy coachbuilt european pre-war car. It would have updated underpinnings (crafted by somebody that build beautiful functional frames) capable of handling a fire-breathing turbocharged LSX motor and 6 speed.

Something like one of these....hell all of them :)

I'd finish mine squandering lots of dough on paint, interior, and chrome......Then I'd buy a warehouse to keep it in, and start on a 36 3window, with a stock grill, molded headlights, mild chop, extended rear fenders, and a static tail dragging stance.....I know it's been done, but I like it......Then I'd start on the 32 5window....then the Bonneville chopped 53 Stude lowboy....then the 40 deluxe coupe....I'd probably throw a shoebox in there somewhere, and a fendered 34 3window......and a 32 Tub........Obviously, I like to stick with the classics, but they're classics because they're the coolest...;)

It'd be either 3WLarrys 3-window coupe or a steel '40 Willys pickup with a blown 392 Hemi. Or maybe an early '60s style '29 Tudor - pearl green with chrome EVERYTHING!

34 5 window hiboy. 2 or 3" chop, everything else original steel just as Henry intended. orange with a large small block and 5 speed. unpolished 5 spokes. 15x5 and 15x8 . mebbe run in the 12's or so but be driveable for long distance. 4 wheel disc brakes cuz if you are going to accellerate fast, you might have to stop fast too.

Right now it would be a front engine dragster, Potvin blown with a Hilborn on a stroked 394 Olds. Olds rear with fuzzy Halibrands. Add in some slippery body work. I think I wanna drag it around on a COE Ford set up with some living quarters and a "garage" on the back!!! Maybe I'll live in this thing too!!!

That would be the starting point for a hot rod.

  8. Ya know, we get impressed on the picture of all that money. Sad thing is some people HAVE that, and still aren't happy. As many have seen here, I like a lot of different styles. That being said, no particular car comes to mind with unlimited money. Just a warehouse full of stuff. A clone to my first Vette, a bunch of altered wheelbase, and Gasser cars, some muscle cars. But, mostly 60's Drag influenced stuff:confused:...............
Sorry, that's all I got for you on this. In my own defense, I can't see stopping at one car if the money's no object

I want my '40 Ford coupe back. The landlady had it towed back in '68 and I had to sell it to get it out of the impound. She thought she could buy it from the wrecking yard for her son. There would have been a dead body somewhere in the desert before that happened! Some day, before I die! Even the red wheels would be ok!pigpen[IMG]

For my daily, I'd buy a 49 Merc mild custom that somebody has already built, shop around for the best riding one alaready done that retained 4 wheel drums, fender skirts and visor. Then I would sand it down and paint it with midnight. The interior color would of my wife's choosing, I would only stipulate that it be soft leather.

Under the hood would be a bone stock hundred horse flathead, except for the generator, where an alternator would take it's place, 12 volt system, 8 track tape deck with tube amp, for 60s analog sound; Freddie Fender, Johnny, Merle, Jerry Lee, Willy, Waylon, ....................
Dual straight pipes that cackled. The battery would be under the hood where I could service it, will be for any car I ever build in the future. I'd add a coolant recovery.
    That's the daily..

Then for a hot rod, I would build an early 1950s hot rod, like I remember many were done then. Model A Roadster body sitting on top of a later v8 frame, no channel, no chop, no slam, bolt on direct 5 on 5.5 1936/37 Studebaker 16x4 !/2" steelies, 600x16 front tires, 650,16 rears, with mechanicals. Caddy flat-head adapted to a zephyr box, backed up by a rukstul, no hood, no fenders. Keep the arm-shocks, the only lowering would be what can be done by a nimrod; reverse spring eyes, remove a leaf or two in the rear, and split the bones, adding panhard bars for stability. Go like hell, make a lot of noise, feel the wind.

I'd build a shop big enough for those two cars, with all the equipment I needed to work on them. My friends would come by for a beer and chat, and none would try to tell me what to do with my cars, because I don't
presume to tell my friends what to do with theirs, and they return the favor.

I'd hang the generator and voltage regulator from the flathead on the wall, where it belonged, because they caused more trouble in the day than any other thing on the beast. It makes me tired just thinking about it.

I would never fill the gas tank full. When feeling frisky I would go to the gas station and dwadle for a while, put in a couple of gallons. Talk to anybody that came by to admire the car.

I'd be happy with that, wouldn't covet another man's wife, house, or cars.

I'd probably have twice as many unfinished cars!!!:D But seriously, I'd probably have an altered wheelbase '64-'65 Comet and/or a real Henry steel Deuce 3 window traditional hot rod.

I'd go out and buy an award winning perfectly restored 32 3W or Roadster and make it into a really fine conservative rod. Also for some bizarre reason I'd like to have a '65 Buick Skylark Gran Sport 4 speed.
