Yeah...I can't wait until history is made when the first mall gets torn down to build a speedway!

In "dreamland" they'd be putting back Danbury, Reading, Flemington and quite a few others. We also lost Dorney Park and Riverside Park to amu*****t park expansions...too bad the current park operators don't see racing as amu*****t.

  2. We where fighting for a racing complex plus here on Long island. The town wanted one of those big indoor ski mountains! No way will it p*** EPA and DEC. Plus the fact that we have height laws here on long Island.
They were looking to build a 1/4 track in side a 1/2 mile track, a road course and an unmentioned drag strip. It's a real debacle.

Thanks Bull. Ray was the local hero here in Southside Virginia. Now I'm diving back in and view all the pictures. I jumped ahead after page 15 :p .

Looking at the picture of Jocko Magiaccomo, isn't he the guy that ran into Bobby Allison at Pocono?

most of these pix must be from the east if they are '60s / '70s modifieds . the older coupes & sedans were gone here by the '60s . at west capital raceway ( the west coast hot bed ) it was fibergl*** & sheetmetal skimpy bodies . very race oriented . wings were in also out here . i love the old pix !! very kool ........... steve

picture #1399, Jim Fodor's #13 driven by Joe Kelly. Those were strong running cars at Flemington, East Windsor, or wherever they raced. Unfortunately Joe had a bad accident at Flemington. It was said that an axle broke, coming down the front stretch, right in front of the flag stand, the car made a right turn into the fence, the car went up as high or higher than the flagger, then went nose down, then slammed down on all 4 wheels. Joe was paralized from the wreck.

That's because, back here most of the tracks were NASCAR sanctioned or if they were non-sanctioned; they adopted NASCAR rules to ***ure car counts.

NASCAR had some what strict control over the modifieds and still do, now though they (the division) is treated like a red headed step child. NASCAR ****s, the modifieds are their best division and always has been, and they never did anything to promote their oldest division. Oh well, at least I got to see the best there ever was go wheel to wheel.

  25. I agree.

Friday nights at Albany-Saratoga Speedway was who's who in NASCAR Modified racing.

As a kid I never made it to A-S when it was paved, but when I went to the last two mod events at Langhorne and then Trenton as a youngster; I got to see the very best of the era.
