Here are some shots from riverside in jan 1967 for the sportman race, I forget what it was called. The 44 I think is Oren Prosser and the 97 is Ron Hornaday. I don't remenber who drove the 88.

I agree Frank, even the Street Stocks are running those goofy oversized Pro-Stock bodies nowadays. I stick to may Malibu, last I checked a 14' long car is more maneuverable than a 17' long car. Also, check out the debate about stock tin for Sportsman cars on the Dirt track digest board: http://www.dirttrackdigest.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=26885
Think ya' better go back and do some more homework. I'm doin' this from memory. 1978 Bobby Allison won the Daytona 500 in the white Bud Moore Ford sponsored by Norris Industries. I was there to watch. At that time he started farther back in the field and still win the race. 1979 was the year of the fight. I wasn't there, but watched it on TV.
John, I checked out that forum. Interesting comments. I read what Gary Tomkins had to sat and your reply. Along with todays racers being nothing more than "***emblers", they are "credit card, catalog racers". As for the large ugly body sides of 4x12 sheet aluminum, this is a DIRT deal to bring potential big $$$ sponsors in and put their name on the car sides. Tomkins talks about aero and downforce at Syracuse. That all BS. But if the guys want an aero 1 mile car, let them have it. Just about any top "credit card team" has a dedicated Syracuse car anyway. Also check out my comments on the USMOD forum. That deal ain't gonna' fly down here without some changes.
All right, So what... I missed it by a year. I was 10 years old. My Dad came into the right side of the picture, as Bobby was kicking the **** out of Cale. He was one of the guys in the film, dragging Bobby backwards. I was at home screaming, "Mom, that's Daddy in there with Bobby" I was so pissed off that Cale had wrecked Donnie. I later realized that it was just as much Donnie's fault as it was Cale's. Still love the Alabama Gang boys just as much as I did as a kid. I've been lucky enough to race with Red Farmer a few times at Talledega Short Track. I p***ed him last last year to make the race. He was running in the transfer spot, and I got lucky. It's a shame that Davey and Clifford are not still around. Anybody have any Clifford Allison pics? Kevin Ooltewah Speed Shop
kevin, since you've known bobby allison for so long i'm sure you've heard of grady humphries. i just read that he had p***ed away on dec 23. long timeB.A. friend, and helper and racer.
Touchy, touchy, touchy . I'm 1 year away from collecting Social Security. When you get to this point, you'll find out how important a year is . AND ......... I remember Bobby driving his '65 Chevelle on the dirt at Fonda Speedway in 1967. Petty won, that was his BIG win year. What a show. Over 40 years later, I still vividly remember parts of it. I've always thought Bobby Allison was "THE MAN".
I have to agree, Modified. I've been on SS for years and each year is more meaningful. But I also get mixed up from time to time on which year is which.
No offense, but... The LMS cars were still big cars on the Superspeedways through 1979. I was there at Daytona every year from 76-80, and in 1980 they excluded the Chevelles, etc. Bobby did go to Moore in 1978. He then ran the Matador in both NASCAR LMS Superspeedway races as well as USAC races in 1978 and 1979. He also ran the Hornet/Concord in short track late model shows during that period. Davey even ran the Mat in ARCA in '80 or '81. The '72 Montes and '74 Dodges were also LMS cars through 1979.
