A lot of you know that I have been lookin' for a project to give me a reason to get out of the house. I found this on C/L for $200 plus $100 delivery. It was about 70 miles away in Lakeland Fl. There have been a lot on the HAMB but even if I could afford them,it seems that the good ones are 800-1000 miles away and shipping would be a killer.I was told that someone started building it & got too sick to finish. It has an S-10 frame @ the guy said he thought that the frame is coated w/Imron??.The dash is in the back along w/some other parts. I will have to find an engine & ****** but that is far down the road.I bought it as a 1952.Is it? When they backed it off of the trailer the rear end locked up.What would cause this?(no driveshaft)The biggest question w/the truck is where do I start?(Of course w/this being Florida,JOB ONE is checking for Spiders & Snakes) I am going to a meeting next month of other people who have lost someone to suicide and plan to get a bunch of fliers to hand out at cruises & shows. So I hope to get this truck to a point where people will pay attention to it.
It looks like a 54 - first series 55. 54-55 bed rails are flat the early ones are angled. 54-55 cabs have one piece windshields while the early ones have a 2 piece. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Does it have the antena frenched into the body?? If i remember right i looked at it awhile ago while visting my folks but he wanted alot for it and wouldnt buge on the price. Nice score!!
The only thing thats frenched is the taillights. It looks like the bed was Mini tubbed? It also has louvers only on the p***engers side. Are they stock or added?
My grandmother had a chair in the living room that looked like those seats. Looks like a good deal for $300, though, just some work to put it together. Lots of places do parts for those -
very cool...glad you were able to score such a good deal...keep your mind and your hands busy...good luck with the build and once again my condolences for your loss
The louvers are for the heater intake. Are not on trucks ordered without heater. Yours may be from up north, as most in FL would be stock w/o heater. Cosmo
I believe the first series 55 had an open drive abd was 12 volt. well worth the money. good score. Now get to work on it. TP
that's a 54 or early 55, I think all AD (advanced design) trucks had those p*** side louvers, if it didn't have the fresh air heater option, they just blocked off the louvers on the inner kick panel
Don't you love a New Year and a New Project, Cool Beans! Enjoy the hunt ... but damm watch out for those snakes. I had one in my 23 Buick when I brought it home and I hate snakes !!!!
Looks like a first series 55 GMC. Take a pic of the crossmember. First series 55 crossmembers would accept a v8 bell. They also had open drivelines.
Oh yeeeea! I see some serious "low buck rod" potential there. There's no telling what's under the bondo on the rear fenders, so if it looks good and seems solid, I'd leave that alone... Just sand the exposed metal untill it's shiney again and bring it back up in quality primer. The cab, since it's mostly dis-***embled, I'd pull it and see if someone would be willing to blast it for you if you bought the beer and pizza. Sand blast and POR-15 the frame, stock rebuild on the front suspension with new bushings all around. Get out the measuring tape and find out the rear-end width, then buy a whole parts car with a proper sized rear for the engine/******/rear-end. Mild SBC or a I-6 from a 70's nova or 80's G-body [maybe V6] would do you justice. Maybe even have the spare parts to adapt some P/S and P/B... Maybe even A/C if you can score an under-dash unit. Skinny chrome bumper and some buick-style teeth would look killer in that grill opening. There was a tech on using VW parts to construct one here on the HAMB recently for cheap. Before I go, I just wanted to say I'm sorry for your loss. I lost a child many years ago, so I know how bad it hurts. Having a project to put your energy and frustrations into can be helpfull. Good luck, and keep us posted! BTW, loose the seats!
