Cars/projects you bought or saved in 2008!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chris, Dec 31, 2008.

  1. Your camper reminds me of one that my friend Vern Miller here at Rockmart GA has--wish I had a photo of it--'50 Packard camper conversion that was sold new that way by a Packard dealer. It's built on an extended frame designed for hearse/ambulance applications. It's basically a hearse cut off behind the front doors with the camper body set on the frame. The design looks very similar to what you have. Vern has all the documentation from when it was sold new and info on the company that made the camper conversion. Supposed to be only a half dozen or so of them in existence.

Could not let them go to the crusher, so they got a new home here.
The truck below is my current project.

I brought this 45 dodge home earlier in the year with intent to cut up, but decided to get it running instead.

I have about 3500 into it including cost of vehicle.

    Drive it everyday

Picked up this 'A' Roadster project in October and my goal is to at least have it driveable in 2009. '32 chassis w/ Y-block and T-10 4-speed, 9" rear....

Bought a '57 Chrysler somewhere around November. Came in just before Christmas.
Car looks Ok and it does run and drive, but I want to go over the entire drivetrain and renew the suspension bushings and parts where needed.

    Six pack,

I don't think the Triumph was for sale. This guy had tons of stuff.
Supposedly the '55 was the first car he's sold in many, many years.

He is a nice guy and said that he just decided one day that "enough was enough" and that he was tired of having so many projects.

2008 was an off-year for me, I only dragged home two new "candidates". Both of them will be finding new homes soon as I also did a recent trade for a custom that runs and drives and can't really be classified as a "project".

The Jeepster is a '48, body and frame only, but is rust-free and almost complete except for engine, transmission, radiator and rear end. Will make a great rod project for somebody.

The other is a 1951 Ford sedan I bought off CL. It's a very nice, absolutely complete, arrow straight and quite rust-free sedan with 3-speed and overdrive. It's nice enough to make a really great mild custom with very little restoration required other than a little patching, paint and upholstery. It, too, will have to go to make room for the new car.

I have this thing about dragging everything I encounter home, whether I plan to build it myself or not. Better to "babysit" a project car for a while and then find a new home for it than to leave it where it is and risk it going to the crusher.

    Any takers on these two?

Bought and sold some real oldies in 08, but I hope I can keep this one and drive it this year. 32 Nash conv sedan. It runs good. I'll call it a hotrod because I'll never find the correct air cleaner...but an Edmunds Custom filter fits perfect :) Got it Oct 08
