I'm 6'4" tall, will I fit...

In a '32 Ford pickup?

I have a '49 chevy 5 window and a '60 chevy stepside. Would like to build a '32 Ford pickup. Wondering if I will fit halfway comfortably at 6'4" tall.

I am in the middle of doing research on parts, etc. and obviously want to sit in one (or something similar) before I pull the trigger. Just posting this now before research is complete as I may have come across a good batch of parts cheap and don't have time to go sit in one.

I would not anticipate chopping it - want to pass my toys onto my kids and my 13 year old is already 6'6" tall. I would like to run a flathead, I am guessing I would need to run an auto due to lack of room for 3 pedals given my size? Would prefer to go the T5 route though for ease.

Ifn I was you, I'd seriously consider Speedway's glass XL 34 cab body.. or have someone fab you a steel one just like it. They are positively huge inside. Gary

 

damn... you need to give me your dietary list.. I can't get past 5'11 !! I had a friend who was 6'2 and fit in his unchopped pickup.. not channeled or anything.. it can be done!! Chopped and channeled I wont even fit in one.. depends on a few things like steering wheel placement cause of my belly!

Depends on your idea of "comfort".

I'm 6'4" , and I doubt that I would be comfortable in one, with a stock size cab.

Some people have stretched pick up cabs slightly,
without the result looking like an afterthought.

 

I am 6'2" and i am running a 31 Tudor because of room issues and bad knees. I have way more than enough in that car but i am sitting behine the door post. It kind of gives you an idea i guess. Since the doors are about the same size. And its an auto also

I struggle with the fiberglass stuff - no offense to anyone.

Anyone have pics of a stretch that looks ok? Where is it typically done at? (searching also)

EDIT: After looking at some stretch jobs on here, I think I would stretch in the middle of the door and stretch the doors also. I dont like the "quarter window" look or a flat panel look behind the door window.

 

Probably not. Getting in may be ok, sometimes getting back out is the problem. I sat well behind the door pillar in my A sedan too. I think lengthened cabs are cool too.

 

I think you would be real disappointed if you did.
Try the Speedway extra cab or a model A closed cab pickup with the Howell's extended rear 1/4 panels.
I am not as tall as you and I settled for a T coupe with the rear removed and turned into a pickup.
If you are not dead set on a pickup then most early coupes offer good leg room or a tudor where you can push the seat right back.

I am guessing that chopping or channeling would be unhelpful to your requirements also.

 

Im 6'5 and can't. what you need to do is a body lift 4x4 with sunken floors.

 

6'2" here and I can not fit in one. Tried several times. On the passenger side I can get in. But who wants to drive around town with their knees in their face and their chin in their belly button?

 

I am 6'4 and struggled to drive my Uncles 33 International PU not chopped or channeled. I took my oldest Daughter for a 5 mle drive in the Downriver Dream Cruise and had to pull over to stretch out a couple of times before finally finding some side streets to retreat to back to his house. I would try to sit in one if you get the chance before commiting

I'm 5'9" and in a stock 31 AA I wasn't that comfortable, I couldn't picture driving it for any extended length of time. That's bone stock - stock seat, wheel, etc. I fit in it okay, just my knees were pushed up and there wasn't room to stretch my legs out.

We had a '31 Plymouth tudor shell someone had made into a truck cab a million years ago, that had sectioned itself by rusting away on the bottom. Now that, even with the back tin flat across behind the door posts, was roomy - I could sit inside it with my legs laid out flat on the ground and still had lots of room behind me for a seat and room to spare to reach where the toeboard would be if it had had one. But the doors on those are long, longer than an A by a bunch. It looked pretty good with no chop, too.

I've never seen a stretched A cab I liked the looks of that much, the 32-4 stretch cab Speedway has is okay, but I tend to think if I couldn't find like a Model A coupe, I'd try and find a body like that Plymouth and make a cab out of that.

 

make it a single seater and sit right in the middle with your feet down each side of the tranny. I'm 5'8" and I fit in mine

 

I'm 6'4" and I BARELY fit in my '26 roadster! I'm having to modify the floor for all the extra footroom possible and I'm also setting the seats as far back and as low as possible. (it helps that it doesn't have a roof!) Definately sit in as many vehicles as you can before you buy!

 

You might be stretching it to fit in without going the extended cab route. This one has a 2 1/2" chop.

 

im building a 51 chevy sedan delivery with my friend he is 6'4 and theres no way
he wont be completely behind the window opening! make sure you can fit befor you buy any old car body!! I would have thought with the s.d. he would be fine I guess we were wrong!!!

 

Is your height in the torso or long legs? That makes a heck of a difference in comfort, which end makes you tall, I mean.
Headroom is the issue if you have a long torso, legroom the issue if it is being long-legged, say inseam of 36" or better.
So the point is that there is tall and then there is tall. I am 6' but sit as tall as my son-in-law who is 6'4". My pants have a 32" inseam whereas his are 36" at least.

 

I am 6'2" and I barely fit in My international P/U, but they have a lot more room than the Fords. Mine is chopped 2.5" and channeled 3". I have done everything I can to fit in this truck and it ain't over yet! I am raising the seat up and tilting it back for more leg room and trying not to put my head in the roof. I think being 6'4" you need to fine a bigger cab!!!!

I'm just under 6', used to be. Too tight. Maybe get creative with a subtle stretch of some kind or look for a coupe body to swap.

 

I'm 6'4" and I don't fit in one. I have a 36 PU which is bigger than a 32 and I'm uncomfortable in that - no leg room.

 

Wish he was, then I'd fit his cars better. He was 5'8-1/2". The average person is taller now than they were then.

 

im 6'-2" and the 32 pickup i built recently was chopped 6" and i fit comfortably if i made my own seat to fit me. the owner went with a Glide seat which fit him but he was a bit shorter than me.

 

Can make a difference if you are short in the legs and long in the torso or the opposite.

 

at 12 years old and being 6' 6" tall old fords were too small and it bummed me out. 30's mopars fit the bill and just about anything else 40+ henry must of been a small dude?

I run into this problem with customers all the time. I also am building a 32 Ford pickup. If you take the 3 rear angle cab braces out you gain 6" in length, then you can replace them with L style braces. Try sitting in the truck without a back rest cushion, just the seat bottom. If this gives you enough leg room you can end up at this position when the upholstered seat bottom & back rest is completed. When trying to get extra room in a small cab or a roadster always try to get the seat down and as far back as possible. Then you can build up to the height desired with the seat & back rest foam. www.hotrodinteriorsbyglenn
