  6. Well... The rear passenger rot has been removed and we found some "great"...quality crap... and part of a 2x4 holding the fiberglass and bondo together...

  8. Cut out the outer panel to fit the rear quarter...
Brought it down to bare metal to be sure there was no hidden treasures.

More updates tomorrow with the panel in place.:D

Just caught the thread...nice work! I finally got my first "classic" this past summer, a '53 Customline. My buddy, who is a lifelong gearhead checked it out with me and everything seemed to jibe. The floor felt a little bouncy on the test drive and I found some quarter size holes in the floor pans. Guy said "no rust anywhere" and "no bodywork". Right. After I took a stinkin' greyhound for 7 hours and then my buddy and I drove another 3, we were able to see some half-ass body work on the passenger side. Good thing we had bright sunlight that day to see it. I ended up gettin' it down a few hundred $.
When I saw what you found...shit the bed, I'm really afraid. He said he replaced the rockers (no bodywork, eh?) last year.

Oh yeah, do you have any more pics of the car from the side or with a little more roof showing? I'd like to give it a run in photoshop with the black and burgundy.
Thinking of going suede silver w mine. Have the original interior (green) in really nice shape. Maybe black with a green flake roof. Any ideas?

buddy of mine bought a nice 57 BA 2dr hdtp out of Spokane. Yellow paint about ten years old...some fading, but the guy assured my pal there was no rust. Well, none that could be actually seen. He took it over to his pal the body dude to have him look at the bubbling at the bottom corner of the rear window. When all was said and done, the car got two new rear quarters, new top piece between the rear fenders, new trunk, new rocker panels and one new front fender and some serious metal work on the vent/wiper panel. There was enough bondo in that body to build a gallows to hang the seller on. I guess in retrospect, my buddy should have taken a felt-sided magnet along, but all of us get stars in our eyes before the cash is exchanged and "buyer's remorse" sets in. Probably no protection from this sort of thing. Seller swore he had no idea, could be true - he'd only had the car five years or so....

Anyway - by the time all was said and done, a $27,500 BA (this was awhile ago) turned into a $50,000 ride. The saving grace is that we discovered that the engine (advertised merely as a corvette V8) was, in fact a 365/375 CE block, backed up by a nice T-10 - also corvette). Car is now in hands of someone else, but is remembered fondly whenever he and I sit down to reminisce about how clever we are.
