He looks a bit like Jeff Tinsley, the photographer. He used to take pics everywhere for the mags. Ya' think it might be him? Mike

I'd love to go through Jim Garner's photos from that era. He's behind Joann, his wife, with the polka-dot dress. I think he carried a camera when he went to the bathroom back then.:D He had a Marina blue 39 Chevy coupe. He still has it and freshened it up a few years ago.

That was a VERY BIG DEAL to have the Nats East graced by none other than Pete and Jake and their coupes.......I had just installed one of their four bar kits on my '34 3w coupe........seeing the California Kid *in person* had me vibrating from excitement.......Jake's coupe was also very cool, and as I recall, Jim Ewing was also theree with the orange Super Bell coupe.....

When I approached the guys it was fairly early in the morning and they were just getting their eyes open..........they were more than gracious and friendly.......we got a guy walking by to take the pics......

I still see Pete at the So Cal Party each June during the LA Roadster Show......and he's still just as gracious.......a very nice guy.....

It sure was! We had a local cruise night at a Local Hechingers parking lot near College Park, Md. on Wednesdays. Same cars, same guys and the same BS. The Wed. night before the Nats East that year they showed up completely out of the blue. Talk about a jaw dropper! They had been to the Nats South? earlier and were just wasting time waiting for Timonium.

Well I am getting a little closer. Dave Anderson wrote me a letter commenting on this story. One note that he brought forth, that I had totally forgottenuntil reading his letter is that there was a planned attempt to line up the 33/34 coupes for a publicity shot, when Pete & Jake, and Jim Ewing made the trip east. Remember this was the beginning of fibergalss coupe bodies, and Anderson Industries had several in attendance. One is the orange coupe seen next to the California Kid in the post by OL55. Apparently everyone did not get the message about the 33/34 line-up, and several insistant budies of one 33/34 wner would not adhere or relinquish there spots when the Super Coupe arrived and made its' debut. Dave Anderson had spent a couple months custom building this car, and I even had a chance as a kid to sit in it when it was at Dave's shop. The Super Coupe promptly left in a huff of drama. This was the last time Dave ever saw the car, and OL55 has it captured here. According to Dave, the car was sold to a guy in Oklahoma, who then wrecked it. Anybody know the guy in Oklahoma, or have any shots of the car racing?

    OL55,

Dave obviously reads the HAMB. I am unclear whether he is signed up, or visits as a guest.

Some of us were talking about our experiences at the Nats East (both Timonium and York) and the subject of plastic mugs came up--Did the NSRA give out the plastic mugs to those who registered at Timonium or did that start at York?

One interesting but completely useless fact is that the Official Timonium 1980 shirt had Timonium misspelled. The shirt was spelled Timmonium. I picked up a couple extras real cheap about a month later at the Memphis Nats.

  22. Anyone remember the steer and spear a spud driving game? You drove through a cone course while the passenger tried to stab a potato off the top of the cone.
