All taken at Garlits museum. (dragged the girlfriend there whilst in Orlando on vacation) Awesome place. Love FED'S.
If we're talkin' "Pretty" Top Fuel cars... In my opinion, one of the most beautiful cars on the planet is Tom Hanna's "Dream Car". Take a few minutes to follow this link and see if you aren't impressed with the Tinman's latest work of art. I first saw it in '05 at Bowling Green and I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it. I know some folks aren't gonna like the up to date glitz-n-glamour, but this car absolutely rocks! And Hanna is still a class act hisself. http://www.cacklefest.com/Hanna.shtml
Just dont understand why this car dont do more than cackle. It is a beautyful piece. And one bad hombre. Dont tell me that lack of one hoop is keepin it from performing. If I am wrong please put me in my place. But Mr. Hanna let this thing screem. You, or a hired driver. This could be spectatcular show!!! Brian Fox
I wish, the 'Jocko Head Porting' liner ended up here in Australia (Im pretty sure it was that one, the Moon one still exists and Im not sure about the other) The owner (Norm Longfield) totaled it, rolled it 6 or 7 times and there wasnt anything left, What a shame for such a sexy car to die like that. Doc.
Actually Doc, that was just a Jocko body that Norm totalled. I see that he recently set "low et of the world" (at least the world down under) at 6.128/225.33 in his front motor car. (October 19 at WSID). Roo
I know this is an old post, but I have that issue at home. It's from 1965. I'll try to scan it for "pretty" cars, it has a lot of them in it!! Great thread, wonder who started it..

I could name a couple. first, money. I run a Top Fuel front motor and you cannot imagine what it costs to run a Top Fueler. Mine isn't even competitive yet and it is still so expensive. Building a 'cackler', no matter how pretty, costs a small fraction of what a competitive car costs to run. Another reason is probably becuase it is too pretty. Do you really expect to see a competitive car look like this? This is a trailer/cackle queen. I am not knocking it is anyway but, it is NOT a race car. Steve if you have seen the car close up or saw pic's of the build , you would know money is not a problem
Admittedly I have NO IDEA what it takes to run a TF car, but as sure as I am of that I am equally sure $$$$ ain't the reason why Hanna isn't running the car. Matter of fact when I was building my car I had talked with Hanna about forming the body panels (and NO I don't "know" him - he was being extrememly nice to a total stranger) - we also talked for a while about his car - he told me he wanted to build it HIS WAY for HIMSELF - he wasn't interested in conforming to modern rules or anything else - I imagine because he's ALREADY BEEN THERE AND DONE ALL THAT - probably a zillion times over. Drag Racing's Living legends = Tom Hanna. What I wouldn't give to have lived 1/10th of his experiences. Class act Big Time.
I hope no one thinks Im bashing Hanna in any way. Just wondering. I mean the cars craftsmanship is outstanding , which we all know. I mean it seems like a safe car. Yeah what he does with it is his own business. It is his car. Just a question. I guess I should be happy he lets us see it. I always look at construction photos of it. And have seen it in person. Jacin, as you note, Tom is one of the nicest guys in drag racing. He did drive early in his career but the legacy that he has provided us with via the beautiful bodies that he has built over the years far outstrips anything that he could possibly do or have done on the track as a driver. Yes the car is art, more than just a race car and there is probably no chance that it will ever do much more than cackle or maybe a burnout. That does not in any way diminish my awe regarding the car. My own Don Long car (Hanna bodied of course) will probably be in the same category as I have no plans to add the stuff that would be required to actually make a pass at an NHRA strip. Of course once I finally get it done I may be tempted to take it to Mokan and at least blaze the tires one time. Roo
Roo, I agree with you 100%!!! I also WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree that you absolutely NEED to blaze the tires on your "vintage" digger at least once - but then again - I'm SURE you knew I'd say that.
