I currently have a 6o IMPALA with a 350 it is bored 30 over hi rise with 650 holly, 465 lift cam. I am going to change the heads to get more hp,as the heads now are mostly stock. What heads would give the most hp , keeping in mind I have 1200 to spend because I,m piston broke.thanks for any advice .
You have a heavy car and need more cubic inches rather then heads, you might want to save up longer for a stroker kit or a big block. Jeff
If you've still got the stock Powerglide, a transmission change will give you a bigger result than any further engine modifications.
What heads are on the 350? You might do well with a set of early double hump heads. Smaller chambers boost compression and flow better than all other factory SBC heads with the standard intake bolt pattern. This would probably be the cheapest way to go. You can also buy aftermarket heads - Dart makes the Iron eagles that are excellent, and they also have an inexpensive double hump replacement head that is good.
I'm with Heathen on the ****** change if you still got the Powerglide. Also a rear gear change will make a world of difference. Remember, getting more performance doesn't always have to come from the engine!
So, you actually build engines (according to your profile), yet you don't have any idea what heads to use on the most common engine out there that has been the staple of hot rodding for 40 years or more??? Seriously???
P/B My buddie just bought some of the summit brand sbc 202 heads on a 350 We did last summer. I was shocked and amazed how really nice they are. The ports are really smooth as cast and dont require any work at all. He bolted them right on with a 465 lift cam. Hes got it in a 50 chev that ran 13.20s at the drags. Motor was a way budget 350 Hes real pleased.I think they were 699.00 check em out. FEDER
what heads do you have now? If you got 1,200 to spend id put it in a set of pistons and a cam. More compression and cam will make more puwer than a iron head to iron head swap if you are wanting to still use gm heads. The biggest issue is to make sure your combonation is working together. Ives seen a bunch of guys put a 900cfm carb on a 350 and thingf they have a race car. Do some research, your heads may not be the problem. if you really want to gain hp for under a grand go to a hydraulic or mechanical roller cam suited for your compression and rpm range. try a bit of freshining up on your ignition system too. if all else fails pout a plate on it with a 250 shot of the giggle gas.
some GOOD heads will make that 350 'come alive!!' i dont know what heads to use but someone on here will know. what pistons etc are you running? a GOOOOD pair of the right heads will 'wake that 350 right up!!
Racing head services makes a cheap vortec head around 500 for a pair. Im planning on using them in a Camaro. Personally though, in a 60 Chevy i would opt for double humps, without the accessory holes just for nostalgia purposes, but thats just me.
You might be Piston, but you aint Broke with $1200 to spend. I don't even call myself broke and I might have $12.00 in my pocket counting the pennies ...geeez louise....Funkin New Gays! M.McFly
i must be missing something about this hambers posts, are there a lot of drugs in morris new york????? Is this the fast 60 chevy that cant be beat with 355 and stock heads???
