  3. 2mm - not sure of the grade though. It was fabbed by an ex-Royal Air Force welder. I figure that if he can weld fighter planes together it's good enough for my T Model Ford.

I have a fuel gauge out of a Cessna Bird Dog drop tank in the end of it now.

Yer kicking ass man! Way to go! You are close enough now to enter the "totally obsessed" stage of the build. The last 3 months or so is when I entered that state. Just do what you been doin son!

    BOB! You rule!

For those of you who don't know, the lower rear corner panels started out as the front 18-inches or so of a 49 Chevy car hood. Bob cut off what I needed, boxed them up right away and shipped them to me! They were a perfect fit and with some trimming and sliding around, they became one with the car. Super thankful for his effort!

The lower part of the filled area is a door patch panel for a 31 Fordor and the panel between the hood panels and the door jamb is actually part of the rear panels I cut out from the back of the body. They had the perfect shape to them and blended in fantastic. Driver's side needs a little more work, but the passenger side needs very little to be a smooth panel.

Originally, HAMBer hammeredabone was helping me out with forming the panels from scratch using a wire-frame buck I made. Between his schedule and mine, it was hard to get it done but Gordon really showed me the basics of using an English wheel and I'll carry that with me always. So if you're reading, Gordon, I really appreciate your help as well! I've been drooling over E-wheels ever since!!

So, I guess what I'm getting at is that if it weren't for the HAMB, I would have never got the help I needed as well as some of these solutions I used. It's definitely appreciated!

That's what I thought too! Then I read that bit in the book. The book is called "Henry's Lady, An Illustrated History of the Model A Ford", by Ray Miller. If you guys like Model A's, you'll love this book. It covers all the changes, options, colors, accesories, etc.. available. Covers all the models from Roadsters to Taxis. The thing I read that set me straight was the following:

"In March of 1931, a new three-window Fordor was introcuced, the "slant windshield" Fordor. Built by both Murray and Briggs to identical design, they represent the "top of the line" in Model A design." (page 219)

They had a lot to say about your Vicky. They said that it is really cool when people cut the roof off 30/31 Vickys to graft in a 32 roof and offer the slant windshield visor panels to builders in need. ;):D:D

I hadn't seen that one! I saw a different one but this one I think will work better for my application! I'm super glad you pointed that out! Thanks man!

By the way, I need to get with you on the roof stuff we talked about when you were here.

I bought the steering wheel from Cruzr, but I believe it's a Limeworks wheel.

Thanks guys! That means a lot! All your comments!

blackjack... 2mm would be .080" here which by aluminum standards in the US would be 12 ga. aluminum. That seems like a great size, actually. Very nice tank!

Whoever's reading, who has an aluminum tank, what size and type aluminum is it constructed of? I was going to use a slip roll to roll the tank and match it to the buck, but I'm thinking that if I just anneal the aluminum I could probably bend it over the form pretty easily. Maybe the ribs of the form will leave an impression in the sheet metal though. Hmmm... throughts? How do people building airplane wings get the front curve of the leading edge?

Dude! Thanks! You're makin' me blush...:eek:

I have a lot to learn. I'm no expert, but I'm learning as I go. In fact, I think some of my work just SUCKS and I'm going to have to redo it. HAHA! It's amazing what you learn when you take on something that's over your head! HAHA! I follow so many builds here and the talent here FAR outweighs my skills, but I learn from them and my own mistakes. I love this stuff though, so I haven't got burned out... (yet). Going completely mental and getting burnt out are two different things though. For that reason, I'm going to sit back tonight, do some reading, learn some new things and rethink a couple of things for this build.

It's not looking so good for LSR. If I came out it wouldn't be with the car. It's going to be last minute decision either way.

So Last night I took a night off and did some reading, thinking, learning, little sketching for the roof etc.. Solved one of my problems last night. Been reading alot on Ported vs. Manifold vacuum for my 6x2 setup. I have to address it soon, but I actually found an amazing article on here on the subject and I think the problem is solved. Now I just need to finish puting the carbs together so I can start getting them setup. Here's how they look right now. Bottoms are done and mostly it's just reassembly at this point...

I started it up on just a 4bbl, but the carb had some issues. I'm going to use the 4bbl manifold and convert it to a 2bbl so I can run each carb individually just to get them close before trying to dial in the entire setup with a Unisyn, and what not.

Still lookin' for fuel tank input from you guys. Anyone here have experience with airframe construction? Still wondering about manually pulling the aluminum over the buck.

HEY! Happy New Year everyone! This WILL be the year to finish or die on this car!

I worked my GUTS out again! I only logged on here a couple times just to check PM's in the last couple weeks because of it...

    - E-brake is mounted
    - patch panels and rear gap panel are tacked in place
    - sub floor is almost completely done and smoothed out
    - drive shaft tunnel was constructed and welded in place as well as the vertical piece it attaches to.
    - windshield frame is chopped down and fit in place
    - started reshaping the drivers side roof and door top

ummmm.... I'm sure there's more. I'll post a few more pics of the progress in a minute. So much more to do and so little time...

Subfloor work. Still some welding to finish

Before things are welded in place. Just getting the fitment right on everything here...

Here's the e-brake handle in place. TIIIIIGHT fit!!! Still not finished with the actual bracket for it...

Windshield is chopped and mocked up...

Here's how she sits right now...

I've got a HUUUUUUUGE list of things "TO DO". I'm a long ways off. Going to start work from the front back now. I want to get the grille chopped down so I can see the lines, get the headlight stands built and get back on the front end of the chassis to get it completed. Some parts were just plopped on my desk that will help that effort. Back on it tonight...

Thanks for your interest guys. I know this car isn't uber traditional, so I appreciate you guys allowing me to keep posting.

Damn, that is pretty darn nice looking. Love the shots too.
Somehow missed this until now, but glad I caught it. Nice!

It might might not be "uber" traditional, but looks pretty damn traditional to me. And if it ain't, well, I guess I understand what traditional really is even less than I thought.

love the wide 5's - good choice on those.

Traditional "smaditional". That thing is Rad and the fact that your doing it with the upmost taste and attention to detail just makes every one itching for more. The body is like a reverse placed altered Comp coupe. You know how that use to mount them behind the wheels?

If you would have told me about this I probably would have been like, "uh sounds pretty extreme" but looking at the car, you cannot help but to think that this may be one of the Raddest cars coming out in 2009. I love it!
