Unfortunately, shows like this are mostly geared to the m***es. You know, the folks who can't change their own oil. A true gearheads view of Bonneville would probably bore that type, but let 'em know that they might get a chance to see a crash or two and they tune in and buy the **** in the commercials.

But, on an otherwise dull Monday night, it was a welcome relief and I watched it the first time.

If somebody could "REPOST" when it comes on for the third time, That would be good. We were there, and I could still watch it over and over. Can't get enough Salt. Can't wait for SPEEDWEEK 09!

  6. Maybe the rear end seized...and the engine didn't ?!?!? Thus you might wind up with a severely twisted driveshaft...
Maybe ? Maybe not? Just a guess.

I got to watch part of it, but had other things that needed done. What I saw was entertaining, but I agree. Too many repeats of the same stuff and too much coverage of the half-million dollar Cuda. Of course I know that the salt is ruled by cubic dollars, but I'd like to see more of the early stuff run, not the mega-sponsored and/or pretty blond racers. Granted, the woman has done stuff that I'll never get to do and she's a great racer, but it may as well have been a show about three racers, when hundreds were out there. Still,.....beats the **** out of all the 'reality' shows.

Watched it, and anything like that is greatly appreciated compared to the rest of the **** on TV..My gripes, they focused on "stars" and I would have liked to see them focus on some backyard builder as well..also, they immediately flashed a 53 Studebaker and flashed a couple of others throughout the show, would have liked it more if they showed some more of the old cars, the "icons" of Bonneville...

I thought it was a good show that had some sensationalism for the m***es but did give an honest picture of what it is all about and how it works. It gives a taste of what its like to be there. Given whats on TV, I'd watch this a hundred times before a show like Orange County Choppers.

If you want an email reminder of when a program is playing, go to The Discovery Channel website, do a search for "bonneville", which will lead to the results, and click the one that says "TV Listings" (I highlighted it in red). The other ones are a short vidieo or a slide show of the subject listed. When you click on it, you will see when the program is on and there is a box at the bottom that says "EMAIL ADDRESS" at the bottom. Enter your email address and you will receive an email reminder 24 hours before it its shown.

I thought it was good................but just wished it did not focus on those "characters" so much........

there are hundreds of cars out there and we saw 20 of them?

I saw the Gene Winfield car for about 1/4 of a second - I literally used the TIVO to go back and frame advance and I am pretty sure that was on there..........but then it could have been some other......

anyway - I liked it - but wish it could have been longer......or just not focused so much on those specific people........but I understand they have to create drama to keep people interested..........

and 1 more thing - I WISH i had HD tv - I bet it looks amazing

overall - worth watching for sure - let's hope that Discovery releases this on home video - and adds another hour!

    THAT would be cool

I watched the show. At first blush I couldnt wait. But as the show progressed I realized that it was more of a reality show focused on three groups rather than the history and purpose of Bonneville. One of my big complaints of most modern productions is that each producer thinks they have to overlay music onto the footage. Bonneville is one of the places where motors are the music. But the producer of this show rarely allowed us to actually hear Bonneville.

Does anyone know of a good DVD focused on Bonneville. Like a year in review of 2008 or something like that?? I'd love to watch something that actually covers Bonneville and lets the viewer hear the event. And a video that covers old tin on the salt.

Whatever the traction, the motor was maxed out trying to push the car faster, so all 500++ horses were going through the drive line. If there wasn't much traction the wheels would have been spinning on the salt long before anything broke. The real load on a drive line is at top speed, not accelerating.
