If an SBC can fit, the 4.3 will with room to spare. I did see a 3.8 buick once in a Model A.

Go with the buick. It's lighter, it's stronger, and there are more speed parts available for it.

We are both in Loisville, so send me a PM and we can hook up and talk hotrods. I recently sold my '57, so I dont have anything to wrench on at the moment. I wouldn't mind bench racing and/or getting my hands dirty if you need a little help.

Buddy of mine did it and loved it. Just consider it an SBC with 4.4 inches gone from the middle. Tom's only complaint was the sound.

More speed parts for a Buick? The only thing they don't make for a 4.3 that I know of is a crank.

Well..... They make about a dozen different cranks for the buick V6. :D

Were talking about the Buick V6 here... The last production block to sit on the pole, run at, and win the Indy-500... The same V6 they kicked out of NASCAR because all the V8's couldn't keep up with it.

I'll stand behind my original statement.

saw one in an Es***..if it will fit in one of those with room to spare..it will definetly have enough room in an A..you might even be able to fit a family of cats in there with it.

The exhaust note of a 4.3 would be enough to keep me from using one.

What size and years are you talking about, for curiosity sake

  10. i'm not a big fan of V-6's in hot rods , but i see know reason why a 4.3 wouldn't work out fine for you. they are a great motor (i have one in my daily `95 S-10) , they made a zillion of them so finding one shouldn't be a problem , as already stated parts are available...and being basically a 350 with two cylinders chopped off you have a wide choice of transmissions.

i ***ume you are talking Chevy 4.3

The exauhst sound wouldn't be great but if you're talking about a ford 4.3 check out supersixmotorsports.com. They have a lot of speed parts for the mustang guys. It's the same block as the 3.8 ford. Supersix should have a bunch of speed parts there are also a bunch of places making intakes and stuff for the 3.8 that should fit the 4.3. Change the cam for something with a lopy idle and it doesn't sound half bad. No replacement for a V8 though.

To answer the initial question, if that is what you want to run, do it. Do you have one on hand or were you going to have to find one?

  15. Isn't that funny? I asked the same question about a 4.6 DOHC V8, and got the **** blasted out of me for even ASKING such a question on this Site. If that's what you want to do, then it's your car...use what YOU want. Where would this sport be today, if people hadn't experimented back in the day?...

Well guys, like them or not, I'm a huge fan of 4.3 Chev V6's. I'm using them in both of my current projects. My 26 Ford modified is furthest along,it's running a 4.3/TH 350 and
    a 40 banjo rear end. the other is a 31 Ford P/U,that one is going to have a 4.3 / 2004r
with a 8" Mustang rear end. These engines are a perfect size, fairly light weight, but they sound great. T

hey have plenty of power for a light weight car and will get good fuel mileage to boot.

Hey, dont get me wrong, I think the 4.3 bowtie is a fantastic little engine. I put 1/4 million miles on one in an astro-van, and the only time I EVER had to get inside it was for a thermostat.

I'm just saying that if your starting from scratch, a 3.8 buick just has a slightly longer list of pro's over the bowtie.

If you already have the 4.3, or have your heart set on one, go for it... But if your looking for a good V6, I think the buick is a slightly better choice.

    JMHO, YMMV

I've got a odd-fire 3.8 liter Buick V-6 in my Model A pickup. It fits like it was made for it, no cutting of the firewall (need to keep as much interior space as possible), plus you can run a mechanical fan. It has plenty of power around town, but does lack some power at higway speed when pulling a big hill. In terms of traditional or not, the Buick V-6 has been around since the early 60's, but many didn't really show up in many rods until the 70's gas crisis.

Traditional hot rods fellas... We've had enough 4.3 liter posts as of late.
