Event Coverage GNRS 60th Anniversary -- Jan 23-25, 2009 -- Who's Going?

I haven't seen much talk on here about the 60th Grand National Roadster Show GNRS, so I figured I'd start a thread.

I'm going out there with a couple friends, TJ (Junkboys) and Lisa, on Thursday, Jan. 22nd and we are coming back home on Sunday, Jan. 25th. Another good friend may be joining us out there, also. I've never been to California before, so I'm really looking forward to this trip! We were lucky enough to get a room booked at the Sheraton.

Three other Omaha guys will be showing up on Friday evening, also - Rob Lee, Dick (Xderelict), and Terry.

Who else is going? I know there are usually quite a few HAMB members that attend the show and some even have their cars entered in it. Go ahead and post a photo of your car on here if it will be in the show - I'll be sure to look for them. It'd be great to meet a bunch of you while we are out there! Will there be a Meet 'n' Greet during the show?

We have a ton of options for other things to do and places to visit while we are in the Pomona area. Among them are the NHRA Museum, Petersen Museum, So-Cal Speedshop, hopefully a couple shops in Burbank (Old Crow, etc.), a stop at the beach (of course ), ...and it'd also be great to go to the Anti-Donut Breakfast and the Donut Derelicts gathering afterwards. The Bob's Big Boy Friday night gathering may be another good stop.

If you have any other ideas for us, please go ahead and post them on this thread - We already have a bunch of great options and want to try to make the most of our time out there! Thanks, in advance, for any input that you may have.

Theres a few of us Hambers from Colorado are going. I had heard the Kennedy Brothers are close by the So-Cal Speed shop and I would really dig to check that place out. Not sure if they will let you poke around.

 

A group of Old Farts' from around the country will be having breakfast each morning at
El Merendero, which I'm told is right across the street from the Fairplex. Gathering at 8:00 and then doing some pre show wandering. Plan is to do the Peterson on Saturday morning to avoid some of the LA traffic.

 

I am hoping to sneak away from Disneyland on the 23rd and spend the day at the NHRA Museum and the GNRS. We are flying back on the 24th so I am hoping I can fit it all in on friday.
Any tips or suggestions for Friday?

You're going to have a BLAST! One suggestion though, hit the Donut Derelicts gathering first if you can get your butt out of bed that early. If not, by the time you finish up at the Anti-Donut gathering the DD guys will be gone. Take lots-o-photos and make sure you post them afterwards.

 

i will be there with my gals {32gal} roadster in the suede palace,its done just in time thank god!!

 

I will be there. First time in Cali and it's my Birthday Gift from my wife Davina. Pretty stoked but only have a couple days. Let me know what's going on beside the NHRA '33-'34 75th Anniversary.

JeffreyJames: Move in is on Thursday from 10am to 4pm. I don't know of anything that night yet.

Well, I guess I won't be helping anyone move in because I won't be there this 4 or 5. Damn, I was hoping that I could be of some use. I guess I'll have to rely on my wit and charm.

 

I dont' think the Kennedy Bros are closed, just CLOSE to the So-Cal Speed Shop, as in around the corner. My shop is down the street from them . I will be at the show too.

 

Megan and I hopped the fence from the Sheraton to the show area Thursday night 8-9ish and walked around and checked out the cars setting up, talked to friends and took lots of photos without a bunch of people around. Certainly one of my favorite times at the event.

Megan went over first, and I held the purses


Then I climbed up and handed the purses to her. Will probably be easier for you if you leave your purse in your room.

I agree Doug. I thought it was a picture of the trash can at a Swedish sex change clinic.

 

H&H Flatheads will be there set up out side to run the engines. Also feel free to stop by the shop on the 19th-21st. Also be sure to check out the tribute to Barney Navarro at the NHRA Museum.

I'm very jealous. Just couldn't pull it together for a trip to Detriot again and the GNRS. I'm only allowed one wknd to sneak away per year. Hopefully next year. Have lots of fun and take lots of pics.

For those of you who have never been it is absolutely awesome! My favorite show of the year! Something for everyone and a ton for us! Really looking forward to it and can't believe it's that time of year again.

Will be strange without those crazy ladies! HAHA!
