    Was told yesterday that I wouldn't be back to work next week , looks like the first of March
    It could go either way, I could get called back sooner or it could be extended
    My position is certainly not as unfortunate as some on here
    Reading this post saddens me that so many are so drastically effected
    Hang in there everybody , we all need to rely on each other in these times

    What the US needs to do is Terriff the hell out of all US products that are being made outside the USA and then brought back in. I mean whack them bad. Tell the owners of the companies that if they want to make any money at all, bring production back into the USA and give Americans a shot at working. Until there comes some MAJOR industry in this country again, it will never turn around. I hope we all get along with our friends and families because it looks like the only way we will be able to survive is to have a couple households living together sharing expenses. Fortunatly, I have not been affected too much by the bad economy but all it takes is my boss to walk in and tell me I am out and I too will be screwed with capital F...........So, yes I am very worried and you cannot believe how bad I feel for people who are laid off or losing their homes or whatever.

    Hard times for everyone when a layoff happens. Yesterday a guy was laid off in Garland TX, went home and got his gun, came back and was going to shoot up the place or someone, cops came and today he is deceased. Some folks can't take losing their job and go completely crazy. Having been through so many layoffs I can't remember, it's not easy and can make a person think crazy thoughts.

    Yet all you have to do in the USA, is have a bunch of illigitimate kids and you can recieve benefits up the wazoo. Welfare here is pathetic, 95 percent of the people on it certainly do not deserve it, they are just lazy asses playing the system and getting away with it. And then I read stories like this and though you are not in the USA, there are many like you who are, that can't get a break no matter what. Unreal........How the hell do you come back from that ?

    While I have a job, I am definitely getting scared. Not because my job is going badly, but because of the things happening on a global scale. Right now, the US government seems to be dead set on sending us over the cliff. I don't think they are doing this intentionally... I just think they are idiots.

    Obama is saying that we should anticipate deficits in the trillions for the next several years. We are printing money out of thin air (and thus are devaluing the dollar). China is balking at picking up more of our debt. Labor laws and environmental regulations have driven most of our manufacturing out of the country. This magical bullet of a stimulus package seems like it will probably be a blank (you give the average citizen 600 bucks, and they are going to go to Walmart and buy a TV made in Taiwan... this is great for Taiwan, not so much for the U.S.).

    I'm seriously considering taking about half of my savings and throwing it into gold. That way, if things continue as I foresee them, I'll have an asset that will resist the decline of the American Dollar.

    I think over the last 20 or 30 years, we backed ourselves into a corner and I don't see how we are going to get out.

    Personal debt compounded with the National debt has sent us into unknown territory.
    China owns 42% of our national debt. People owe more on their homes than they are worth and most families are way over their heads in credit card debt.
    The National debt is now over 11 Billion dollars, most all of which happened in the last 8 years. So much for fiscal conservatives....

    24 years at a mfg. co. with never a layoff, happily cruising another 4-5 years to retirement. June 08..........phttttt, there now sits a empty building and, of course, the suits figured out a way to destroy my 401k in the meantime too. Not where I planned to be at this point in my life, but waddda gonna do?

    People are in trouble with credit card (as I am) due to the fact that inflation rises so fast yet salaries don't keep up. You need something fixed at home or on your car or whatever, there goes a grand at least. Most people don't make enough to afford a decent house, gas when it was so high, food, and everything to have a big ass savings account so where do you get them money ??? Credit cards unfortunatly.........It is not hard to get in trouble with them.

    Im on your side... i get it too... Its a shame it has to be like this but blame the government and the rich... I never could understand why the people with all the money have the least taxes?... Its getting scary everywhere... Dont turn your back on anyone your employer included... The ass kissers will make it for now till thier plants close completely but us workers will still get the layoffs.... Now since everyone is layed off and gas is down cause there isnt a big demand we need to raise the gas tax to fix the roads. fuck em.... why do that if no ones driving ? When the economy gets straightened out then with new gas taxes we will be paying 6 to 7 bucks for a gallon of gas and all on 2005 wages... health care is rising gas is rising again .. Im gonna make less this year than last just because fo health care . My scripts every month are outragous but i gotta have em.. Im not ready to check out i got shit to do....... Oh ya good news though gm and chrysler made a deal with the credit unions for cheap financing for new cars? wonder who the fuck is gonna buy em? Im keeping mine in good shape cause i really dont want to make any more car payments after these are done... Fuck em .... greedy Bastards...

    Surprised this post is still open,but,since it is,I'll jump in.I'm amazed at our collective ability to ignore,as a nation,where we are,how we got there,and what can be done.I remember reading books back in the 80s that were predicting some of what's happening now,and thinking then that we would not survive.My son is 23,about to graduate from college,and cannot find a job.He has felt for years that the US was on a downhill slide,and he would never experience the "glory years",and I have to agree with him.I own a retail business,have for over 30 years,and don't know if I'll be here much longer..I always joked that "they" couldn't fire me,"they'd" have to starve me out..This may be the year,and there ain't no bailout for me..The system doesn't work,and as soon as our bullshit debt isn't attractive to the rest of the world,shit will happen so fast,we'll never know what hit us..

    Why close the thread ? We are all in the same boat and it is good to talk to people what are in this as well. Just because it is not about some old car does not mean it is not a topic that people want to talk about. And I think we should talk about it. Your son is right, except we are not on a slide, we are on a freefall straight down to becoming a third world country. But as long as the rich stay rich, that is all that matters........That is as clear as the balls on a tall dog.

    I feel for all of you that are unemployed or underemployed. I have been there. I finally made to retirement a couple years ago.
    I saw this on our local TV station the other day. May not be for everyone, but they said they are going to hire thousands, thats right thousands. You have to relocate though.

    I'm making $30k less a year than I was three years ago and the last two jobs I had both are gone now and my house is worth $40k less than it was a year ago.

    HOWEVER, I took a new job in the restaurant business and I get a check every two weeks that clears the bank. I'm looking for a second job now to offset all that happened and take care of my family. It's hard to do when you work 70 hours a week already but I can do it because I need to. I just paid off a car and my daughters school and got another car close to being paid off. Shouldn't need any new ones for a while. I was as guilty as everyone, financing stuff I didn't need. The recession is good in that respect. It puts us all back in check and lets you focus on what is important. I don't need a lot of stuff I have. I suspect it's gonna stay tough for quite a while but...I'm gonna stay tough too. That's what built this country and that's what's gonna bring it back. No bailout is going to do that. It takes getting serious, getting priorities and fighting your way through it.

    The jobs I had and the jobs I want are gone for now. The jobs that will keep me alive are still there. That will do for now.

    I'm not saying I don't feel bad for everyone, I'm just saying buckle down, take a worse job, keep the things you have to have and we'll all get through this. I think the sun is still going to come up tomorrow. Good luck to all of you and count the many other blessings you have when the money gets you down.

    I got laid off as a Manufacturing Ops Manager from Dell a while back when the economy was still pretty good, because they outsourced my area to a lower cost area. I can't blame companies trying to survive for trying to get thing done as cheaply as possible.

    It did however make me rethink my focus on chasing after the allmighty $. I went to work for The University of Texas as a Facilities Manager. I LOVE it here, and I will never go back to the 'private sector' unless I have to.

    I would recommend working for goverment, education, higher ed, etc. to anyone. You won't get rich, but you won't worry yourself to death either from an unexpected layoff......

    Ugh I was kinda sorta laid off in December. Business is slow here so I was "let go" and taken off of salary. Now I'm working day to day as a "contractor" but I really don't know how long that'll last. The shitty part is that I just moved back to So Cal from Colorado and I left Colorado because I lost my job. So between living off my savings for a few months and the cost of the move back to So Cal I'm just about out of money. At least I get a VA disability check. That kinda keeps the bills paid.

    If any of you live near a large airport check out TSA. The Transportation Security Agency. I retired from them in March but I know they are always looking for people.
    You must go through background checks, DUI's ,no felonys, piss test and must have a good credit rating. If you get in it's very secure. Uniforms, retirement , savings plan and insurance. Just a thought.

    IMAGINE THIS..............
    MICHIGAN---you remember us we're the 'birthplace of the automobile'--- HIGH UNEMPLOYEMENT, HIGH FORECLOSURE RATES, home of GM-FOMOCO-CHRYSLER, ROADS STREWN W/ 'ORANGE BARRELS'---and a 'DOOFUS democrat governor'--{ she told us in her-state-of-the-state-address, 4 years ago "we'd be BLOWN AWAY, at the prosperity we would enjoy in the next 5 years"--we can't wait for the last 12 months of her prediction.}

    GUESS WHO Barak Hussein Obama chose to be a member his FINANCIAL TRANSITION TEAM?

    YEP, JENNIFER GRANHOLM--governor of the great state of MICHIGAN!

    our governors seem to always 'land on their feet'!

    LAST ONE, is at the top-of-the-ladder w/ THE NATIONAL MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION--- { as already 'listed-in-this-thread', there's not much 'active'
    manufacturing in these UNITED STATES of AMERICA! what is the view for john engler at-the-top-of-that-ladder?}
    his wife is INDEPENANT DIRECTOR of FREDDIE MAC..................{ i know you're aware her organization got BILLIONS of bail-out without congressional hearings! }
    that is JOHN and wife/ MICHELLE ENGLER. do a GOOGLE on this couple!

    i can't wait to see where our present governor, JENNIFER GRANHOLM and husband DAN MULHERN..............are going to 'land' after their successes in the great state of MICHIGAN! { THANK GOODNESS, she is 'presently' un-qualified to run for PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA---she is canadian born/ no offence meant CANADA! }

    { i am also aware other states have difficulties--my heart goes out to you on the H.A.M.B. who are 'collaterial damaged participants in this economic event. }
