I've been thinking of pulling off Long Island and heading down to Virginia...Still gets cold, but not as cold as it does here. I don't think I'd be able to take the constant warm in Florida, at least Virginia gets cold enough so you have an excuse to use the fireplace, but not so cold your nuts fall off.

Well, so much for "Southern Hospitality", I guess.

I'll bet you like the green stuff the Yankees bring with them, don't you? :D

  3. There's plenty of Southern Hospitality for the folks that want to assimilate.

But there isn't much for the ones that say, "We don't do it like that up North!".

My southern buddies tell me I blended in pretty well for being a New York Yankee.

Here is another vote for Las Vegas. I moved here four years ago after spending the first part of my life in SoCal. No state income tax, one snow day in 30 years, great entertainment, hot chicks and lots of car guys. When it gets to hot, jump in the pool. You won't get bored in Las Vegas.

Whoa, don't write off Tulsa so fast. We moved here from Iowa and Kansas City in 1969. Nothing like it. Supposed to be 70 here tomorrow. Beats the hell out of a lot of other places. OK , we get a few days of winter a couple of inches of snow and then it's back to spring. They say we have at least 360 days a year with some sunshine. If my ride wasn't in the upholstery shop, I would have driven it the last 4/5 days. Think about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT OKC. Think green country. OKC SUCKS BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!

What do you guys think of the Las Cruces, NM area? Also from the U.P. and the wife and I are thinking about getting out of here after she gets done with her nursing degree.

LC? Why? If its for a job I can see that but if its because you think its nice then I would look at ABQ.

Cruces is nice not to hot, not to cold. Car friendly NM laws. We don't need no stinking laws.
Albuquerky is getting to big and it does snow in the winter every once in a while. Then the boneheads here don't know how to drive in it. But there is a huge car culture here.
Tons of medical related jobs here in ABQ.

Population in the area less than a million. High temps in summer seldom over 100*, afternoon thundershowers (monsoons) last 10 minutes, winter 30-40* some snow never stays on the ground for over a couple of days. Elevation 5000-6000 ft. Home prices $100K and up. Biggest Employers: Sandia National Labs, UNM, ABQ Public Schools, and lot of Medical related Jobs. Lifestyle very relaxed. Car shows every weekend in the summer. Several race tracks, oval both paved and dirt, road course, and dragstrip We moved from CA (too expensive and crowded) 8 years ago and would never move back.

Kansas city is alright. Used to live in midland michigan-glad to not be there anymore. Didn't mind the winters but the humidity in the summer sucks. Mosquito is the state bird LOL. Even though the state of Kansas(just outside of K.C. area is where I reside) may be made fun of now and again, one thing is for sure-no emissions testing- which is good for hotrodders last time I checked. Great BBQ, music, great schools, etc... The area I'm in is constantly growing and doesn't seem to stop expanding, which should equate to good job opportunities. The winters get cold here(wind chill factor is real popular since it's the flatlands) and summers can get to triple digit heat, so I guess it could be considered the worst of both worlds.....not sure where I'm going with that. Tornadoes ain't so bad. More scared of earthquakes and hurricanes.

    Just my 2 cents.

Yeah this Michigan weather does suck. I heard in my area we are supposed to get up to 10 inches tomorrow night into Saturday. It is fun to ride three wheelers though. :)

South Carolina does have 4 seasons ... Spring, Summer, Fall and a light Winter. As long as you live below Interstate 20 ... you will very rarely see snow. Above Interstate 20 and you might see snow once or twice a year for a day or two. We have 5 Interstates ... so getting around is fairly easy.

    Interstate 20
    Interstate 26
    Interstate 77
    Interstate 85
    Interstate 95

I have lived in Greenville, Charleston and the state capitol ... Columbia and all have their good and bad points. If I had my way ... I would move back to Greenville. But my wife of 34 years likes it here in Columbia. We both lived ( and met ) in Charleston.

I not not know about the job market but in my area ... unemployment is less than 5 per cent. The newspaper has lots of jobs listed. The car scene is not real big for HAMB type of cars ... but there are quite a few car guys around lots of old cars in the junk yards ... go here for a thread about my favorite junkyard http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116005

    The population is diverse. ;)
The minority is almost the majority here. Folks from across the border are plentiful ( most illegal I suspect ) . Property is reasonable and so is the cost of living.

If you like 32 Fords ... we have about 50 that I know off within 100 miles of my house :D

I disagree with everybody. I have considered moving to a better climate many times, but come to my senses because I can think of none better than near me. Anywhere along the western slopes of the appilcation mountians from Kentucky south is good. You dont get the horrible humidity (which is THE worst thing that can happen) from the East coast and you still get 4 seasons a year but if you go to Knoxville or simular it is nice just about year round. You get a little of everything, but not TOO much of anything. You do not get all the bad weather that hits around the Mississippi river because it peters out before it hits the mountians. JB
