I agree. It pisses me off too. But at the same time think about how excited people get when they see your car. That's why they're all over it. The only thing you can do is ask that they don't touch it and be cool. And take solice in the fact that your car runs!

Now if it's some dude leaning on it trying to impress some chick, you could break him off. Or you can ignore him and offer her a ride :D That happened to me with my 56 once.

  4. looking and leanin ain't stealin .... yet

just go a little postal and mutter to your self after taking thier picture for them..

put a sign on the car that says, touch here, lean here, sit here. nobody will come close because they are too damn lazy to follow directions.

I always follow them back to thier car, if they have one, and sit on the hood, and rub my greasy hands all over the windshield.

"Man this is a great looking truck! I bet you have a bunch of time in it."
    "Its not mine"
"Yeah I know... thats because its mine"

I work at a classic car dealership and go through people sitting on/leaning on cars everyday and it still drives me crazy. When you try to be polite and ask them not to sit on your car they think you have insulted them and questioned their finances. They usually then try to prove to you they can afford it by telling you how much money they have or give you a long b/s list of cars in their collection. Some people just have bad car etiquette. When it is one of my personal cars I am not nearly as polite and usually say something similar to "does that look like a fuckin couch"?

I had a guy rubbing his paws on the roof of my car at the street rod nationals. He said, "I love the patina". I saw, "Lets go look at your car so I can rub my grubby paws on it!". He said "Sorry" and quickly walked away.

Some women I used to work with were leaning on my car one day.

    I told them:
If I wanted you to lean on my car, I would have parked it
closer to the door, so you wouldn't have to walk so far.

    Never happened again.

I can't stand it either. I walked up to three guys probably in their early 60's talking to one another. One was leaning on my car with his butt, arms crossed, relaxed. I said excuse me, my cars not a leaning post, he moved, I opened the door and got something out. I could hear him mumbling under his breath to his buddies, never apologizing to me. Okay, I don't have the nicest stuff, I'm sure he probably had a sweet car and for some reason didn't care about mine. But man, I would have been embarassed and apologized if it were reversed. I've had stuff like that happen occasionally and I just don't get, I mean, these appeared to be car guys, not a child that doesn't understand at the grocery store or whatever. Okay, I feel better now. Well, not really. :D

It's simply a lack of respect for other people's property.

I was cleaning my truck (dd) at a quarter wash and had just started to wax it when the guy in the stall next to me started spaying and got over spray all over the truck before i could wipe the wax off. He got me wet too. I told him i had already had a shower and really didnt want another. He was a lil more careful but still got me a couple of more times. If it hadnt been my DD i probably woulda got more pissed, but its a scratched up 4x4 so it wasnt that big a deal if the wax wasnt perfect. Oh and those "look but dont touch" and "Cars are like wifes, its alright to look but dont touch" stickers really piss me off. Im not sure why they just allways have. everytime i see one i feel compaled to take a stage 5 shit right in the middle of his hood.

I don't even bother to roll up the windows or lock my doors. Mostly because it would be a waste of time and I don't want anyone busting the windows or locks trying to get in to look for something to steal. Very few people would know how to start it or drive it, so not worried about that too much.

It's an old truck and people ask about it, look at it and want to take pictures all the time. Who cares if they touch it, it isn't show truck by any means. People like it and that is cool with me. I use and drive it and that kind of stuff is just part of life.

If it was some kind of show truck and they were touching it, etc., I probably would feel differently. But then again I probably wouldn't be driving it around much outside either and that is why I will likely never have a vehicle finished up so incredibly nicely that would make me worry about stuff like that. Even a nice normal decent paint job on a hot rod isn't worth being an ass over and being overly protective.

I used to work with a guy who actually opened the hood on a stock Model A when the Model A club was displaying thier cars at the mall.

he just couldn't understand why the guy got mad, and was telling me this story thinking I would agree the guy was unreasonable. guess he thought the car was a ride at Disneyland or something

It's pretty disrespectful, it pisses me off too. It's just common courtesy to not touch someone elses shit without permission. I caught a guy sitting on the tonneau cover of my O/T truck once and got pretty pissed, he jumped right off and took off once I yelled at him. I went to the bar once and saw a really nice 59 chevy pickup, with a minivan parked next to it. The owner of the minivan was doing something in their van and had the door touching the pickup. It pissed me off and it wasn't even my truck, so I pretended it was mine and yelled at them. I never did find out who owned the truck, but I hope it didn't get damaged too bad.

I've had people shut my hood at shows on my Impala so they could get "A better picture". How'd you like a picture of my foot up your ass?
