No shit! I really had no idea that this was not the same company. Why then was Barris promoting the Radir Wheels company with a pic of the Batmobile. Was their some sort of Legal BS that made them change their name to R-A-D-I-R?

I believe the rear is a Chevy pattern and the front is ford. I have this Weesner pic that was an insert to a Mad Fabricator Society DVD and it keep calling for me. It's the one with Frankenstein in the T Roadster with Miss Frankenstein's leg on the car. That's sort of where I got the idea for running that wheel combo.

It wasn't unusual to see mixed wheels front to back, like aluminum slots out back and 5spokes in the front, or chrome-reverses out back with slots or 5spokes up front.
As you can see, different parts of the country, or state, or county went for different combos and styles of almost anything, wheels, paint, etc..

I dig Radirs, but I never saw them around here in the 60's......I did see lots of cars with mixed wheels front and back.....most guys ran solid wheels on the back, and mags on the front.....

Original Raders on the front, steels on the rear (Aquasco Speedway, circa 1964):

I always thought the steel rear wheel thing was mostly because of racing, as in; you had a set slicks that were mounted to the daily driver when you went to the track and that the steelies were stronger?

If you want to run a mixed set,I think the American 5 spokes on the rear, and the faux 12 spoke spindle mounts (the kind you can run with brakes) would look sweet on your roadster.

Yeah......I think that's how it started, then it became a "look", and guys were doing that on a lot of street cars just for the performance vibe....

  16. Chrome wheels and all the mag wheels were coming on strong by the mid 60's. Just a matter of taste.

  18. I am partial to Supremes with 5.20 skinny whites. But my opinion on that truck would be glossy black with either chrome reversed & skinny whites or Radir's with black wall bias plys and piecrust slicks. You said you aren't really trying for exact "period" so do what you think is best looking to you. By the way, really cool truck and story along with it! Good luck

im in love with the same thing..

issue with that in this instance is he wants early to mid 60s... supremes werent out til like 63, and 5.20 tires werent being used on cars til about the 70s... so this causes an issue..

in mid 60s, it woulda been more like a G78 tire or so... something slightly smaller than stock, or a caddy size tire depending on the car and the owner.. something equivalent to a 205/70 nowadays...

now early to mid 70s, supremes or tru spokes and 175-70 (5.20 size) 14s woulda been the shit... but not back then

That's interesting that Supremes came out in 63.....I kept hearing that they were 60's trad, but they never appeared in my world until the late 70's.....Different trends in different parts of the country.....

  23. I am not sure, but they look like Americans. I think they were called "Daisies" or something like that. Not real sure when those came out, but I think they were 70's.

  24. The amount of knowledge on here never ceases to amze me!
I am hoping to get a set of 5.20's for mine. I bought a set of 14x7 reversed Supremes, and now the tires rub! Lucky me.

Daisys were not in the 60's....

  26. Yep, those are 200S, commonly called Daisy's. Don't think they came out until early 70's. Never did like em. Always thought they looked like American was just trying to offer a different version of the 5 spoke. But many cats ran them in the 70's.

Mid-sixties? Astro Supremes were the hottest wheels to have on your ride in Southern California, as I remember it.

Yes, I agree with Larry, around here it was the the same but I'll throw in Keystones, seems like the 55-57 Chevy boys loved them.

Hey, love your truck, I had a red and white 66 short wide with old style torque trust on it, and a 51 f-1 with 200s, a classic look. :)
