I had a basket case 28 chevy national sedan and wanted something different. This is what I came up with. First I filled in the side rear window areas. I decided flush was the way to go for the time period of this vehicle. Then for the rear door size 3/4 square tubing was easy to work with for this project. So I started by bending the tubing in my vise lightly. Using my body pressure to bend the material slightly. Keeping the vise loose to easily move the metal through until I got the shape to match the rear of the inner body. Then tack welded each piece individually all the way around. This structure is for the door, then I duplicated the same process for the body structure. Tacked it all in place leaving a 1/4 gap between each structure this will be part of the door gap. Before I cut the door open I thought the hinges should be installed. So I cut through the body just large enough to slide the hinges through, and leveled the hinge pins with each other. And welded them in place. From inside the car I cut the door open staying close to the new inner door structure as a guide. And the damn thing opened up perfectly. Then for the inner door stop, and seal. I used 1 inch L channel welded to the new body structure and leaving a 1/8 inch gap for weather seal to be installed. The door handle, latch, and license plate light is off a 37 dodge sedan. And the backup lights are from a mid 40s chevy truck front turn signal. The hinges I used for the rear door are from a 29 chevy truck HOPE YOU LIKE IT ...ghost
Looks really nice, did you think about rounding the top corners at all or was that a whole new can of worms? I like it as it is also, I am just asking the question.
Naw... the front doors are square so I just kept with that theme. But rounding would add another dimension...ghost
I like it a lot! Nice to see another one saved. You did a great job of fabbing the inner structure. Should last much longer than the original wood!
Yea... When I found this car it was all there except the aluminum belt line trim. In a lot of pieces, but all there. So I will put it all back on with the exception of the bumpers. And the jury is still out on those what do you think bumpers or not. Also I think I will put smaller glide headlights on with a lowered headlight bar. I think the originals are too large for the direction I'm going. Thanks for all your comments...ghost
Great work. I've always been partial to deliveries, too. Should be a righteous ride when it's all together. And I'm glad you're keeping the fenders. Maybe some cool little nerf bars or "pushers" would look good on that.
A nice job. One of the best I've seen over the last 30+ years, I think. Can't wait to see the finished and painted product. Deliveries are always fun.
Thanks I really apreciate the comments. now that brings up the paint question and might as well handle it now. The car will be the original or close to it dark forest green. My question is gloss black fenders or all forest green to match the car. I have a set of tru spokes with black walls and a set of steel wheels with possible wide whites and mini center caps ????? (please what do you think) ghost
Funny, the second you mentioned paint, I envisioned dark green, then I read on. Good choice. Black fenders would look great on that! I say go for it.

hey ghost, good to see you finally started your own thread. personally i like the idea of black fenders, that's what mine was originally, green with black fenders. also like the idea of small nerf bars instead of full bumpers. keep building my blueprints, can't wait to see it finished! mike

O.K. that is two for no bumpers, and some kinda nerf bar instead. And two for dark green body with gloss black fenders instead of all green. SO FAR SO GOOD....ghost

Looks great so far. I say go with green and the black fenders also. But I am still out on the wheel choice, just can't picture it yet. But it will come to ya when the time is right.
