Just thought I'd share this one. It's a '40???? Chevy that my grandfather purchased in the 60's for a parts car. Since then it's resided in the woods that adjoin their farm, slowly decaying, and occasionally pilfered by family members. I remember when I was a kid going to cut fire wood I'd always hike out to take a look at it, wishing to one day pull it out. Unfortunately I was born about 20 years too late. Here it is today, it's pretty much complete with drivetrain still in tact, mostly just the interior and trim that's been gutted. We've talked about scrapping it, or pulling it out to let someone else have a crack at it, but given the state that it's in I think the consensus is to just let her rust in peace. Don't even think a HAMB'er could save this one.
the front bumper mounted overrider is an accessory piece, its worth a few bucks.. even in that condition zach suhr was looking for a pair of those headlight buckets.. and in that condition they would be perfect for what he is doing with them the stainless around the grille is worth some coin too.. and the steering wheel is just cool..
Don't worry, scrapping it's not an option right now. Wasn't aware of the over-rider, cool to know! Not sure what pop has in mind but if it was up to me, I'd be inclined to trade it for a pile of T parts. Here's a few more photos of some detail areas. I just noticed the air pump sticking up through the leaves in the trunk, wonder if the tool kit's still buried in there.
Man, if you think that can't be saved you need to search some of the old threads here. Some of the guys on this forum are unbelievable.I believe some of these HAMBers can put back one that has been crushed! Not me,but a few are amazing.
I meant it more as a challenge... The fab work around here never ceases to amaze me, as well as the innovative ways of using things in ways they were never intended to be.
Jim Sibley probably wouldn't touch this one... It's too nice for him ...Jim Sibley, the "Chuck Noris" of HAMB-land!
I know pics can be deceiving, but she doesn't look too bad. At least, not compared to some of the stuff I've seen.
That car right there is what will separate the boys from the men. You should see my Model A Vicky body that I plan to rescue.
Anything can be saved. All it takes is time, money, tools and skill. Some HAMBer with all of those things could have that sucker rolling to the local cruise in no time.
Go shut the doors and hood and duct tape the deck lid back on and cover it up so it does not get any worse, plus clean all the leaves out since they will keep the floors damp. Jeff
I agree with Jeff, Close that thing up in the meantime to keep it from filling with rain. It looks totally saveable especially when you compare it to some of the early 30's cars some of us are "resurecting". Oddly enough, your car is less than a decade newer. If you don't rebuild it in Gramps memory, sell/trade it to someone who will before it deteriorates too far to save.
I'd definitely say that she can be saved. Hell, I'm interested in getting one or more of these for myself to give it a shot-not that I feel I have the same level of talent as some on this board.
Man, that looks like a dinosoar fossil dig! Was your first look at the roof skin and you thought it was a 34 3 window?
What is the story with this one as I never seen one sink that far in the ground,is it a GMC or chevy. Jeff
Not to be a naysayer, but considering it's just a 40 Chevy Sedan, it's not much more than a parts car. If someone really wanted to build one of those, they could find a nice complete realitively rust free car for less than the cost of all the patch panels it would take to put that one back together. I'm not saying crush it, I'm just saying economically you'd be nuts to try and build that one.
I agree. I've got a '46 2 door sedan that runs, has a clear title, and is complete, had it in the classifieds for $1200 and didn't get any bites. Sure, you COULD fix this, but it wouldn't be worth the effort. Gramps only got it as a parts car anyway, not like it was his pride and joy. But I agree with Sawzall, grab the remaining good useable parts and sell them to someone who needs them instead of just leaving them there. The front bumper overrider, steering wheel, headlight buckets, and rear window glass all grabbed my attention, and if the springs aren't broke on the hood hinges you could get those too. Probably a few other things I'm not seeing. Don't let that good stuff go to waste, someone out there needs it, let a few pieces of the car live on.
I threw up an add in the classified section just to see if anyone wants the whole thing, if not I'll start stripping parts. The photos, though decent resolution, definitely make it look a little nicer than it is. mj40 - There's gotta be a good story to that pickup!!! . . . .
