I know thing's change and progress, and for me/us to think they will stay the same is beyond the true realm of reality..
That being said, i wish this car would have stayed somewhat connected to what it was aside from just the yellow paint and i'm not talking about it being a rolling test bed. I see nothing in this pic that look's like its being tested.
Yes, i live with blinder's on and don't care for change too much..so i already know i'm wrong..
This, as a car guy who was honestly effected by this car at an early age, to the point of actually buying a 57 as my first car to which i still own, make's me wanna puke. I can't believe that's the same car..It really does look like something that would be on one of those reality car shows..wow..Obviously this is the first time i've seen it in a while..R.I.P.
    Sorry..

It's confused- for 40-plus years it was TOTALLY recognizable as a '57 210- now they removed the 210 beltline trim and added Bel Air trim to the sides and tops of the fins- Why? Does it make it faster? NO. That's to me the essence of Project X- make it go faster, most of those changes (the external ones) have NOTHING to do with that.

Couldnt have said it better myself. That car and those articles were very inspirational for me back in the 70's. The car may just as well be gone, in my eyes it is......

JimA nailed it... its no longer associated with the average guy. Looking at it, you can tell it is confused and the new designer really did not undersand what was going on in the car market today (or tried to make it fit into all areas of interest), its so confused; is it pro-street, it is a 4x4 (look at how high it sits) is it pro-touring (big diameter). Lets hope this version will only last a year or two and someone will save it and give it another make over closer to its roots. GM basically tried to make it a flashy Bel Air/ corvette (high society) when it was just a blue collar worker..

MAN, it hurts lookin' at that thing now!

Yellow, big wheel wells, no front bumper, Cragers, blown. Bye bye baby...

  7. JimA smart, GM dumb.........nuffsaid.

No it aint enough. That car looks like ass now! I spent the day looking through magazines for articles about it. Those latest pics would make me burn ALL my mags if I did not know better!

Ken, got a couple mags coming your way soon. Hope they help. T

  8. Cool! Every other version I have seen are dull and uninteresting (Even the Holywood Knights version) but this is a stand out. I like it.

It lost all interest to me when they "restored" it and it lost the circled wheel wells, now it is just another goldchainer 57....

  10. Well said Jim, now lets get busy building the one everyone really wants to see:D

I have to say its now just a cover car and thats it!

Most of the stuff I relate to and like seeing today is home built turbo setups and prochargers with cheap EFI puters. I also enjoy the cheap junkyard buildups of GEN III motors going into any old american tin metal so long as they dont screw up the body lines ,wheels no bigger than 17s and is within reach of my wallet. They should based Ol' X off of this stuff!

I bet GM added it because it makes it more recognized as a 57 CHEVY to the avergae non-car person that may see it.

It lost every bit of it's "soul" and history when they turned it into what it is now, another hi-tech, smoothed-over trailer queen. Some guys don't know when to leave well enough alone when it comes to cars.

It is sad to see the "newest" version. It looks like they rolled all the worst aspects of today's car-building scene into a poor old '57 sedan. They removed every other ounce of a '57 210s original character, why did they leave the door posts and vent windows? Now THEY look out of place.

It's an import car dressed up as a '57 Chevy. If that's the future of hot rodding, then that's why I'm here.

I rode in the version that D&P Chevy built. Very sad- dump a 502 crate motor in it- some uglyazz racer buckets on painted unistrut & park it in Super Chevy Gold. Fit & finish was so-so, not even up to Daryl Nance's level of build if you ask me. And... hardly gold. Maybe it had a 7 day build like Boyd's Junk Yard Dog had . What a waste of a truly iconic car if you ask me. Then GM gets the car & WTF? Looks like a tired 10 year old show circuit car to me. Not 1 thing cutting edge & that was suppose to be the point. Saw it at Super Chevy Fontana ...............yawn.

I'm not discounting the effort and bucks pointed at the latest version, but it's just a half hearted, corporate, glad handing exercise.

I don't know what version it is, but the no hood, cragars, blown version SINGS to me. It's the car the older, outta H.S. badass would'a had when I was a little kid in the early 70's.

I remember when they bought it and it was a plane-jane 210 that they wanted to try stuff on. The absolute best that they ever did with it was when they put a supercharger on it with a 'how-to' tech article and they were taking it to the strip to 'see what she'll do' so tune in next month.
Well, the next month's issue was how to replace burnt pistons in a blower motor and how to run a bigger fuel line in your shoebox and the importance of having enough fuel for a blower motor.
Few things in life i have respected more than that particular article, i think it is called integrity and i've always wondered if the editor ever appreciated how many of us were impressed with their honesty. Thanks, PHR

Anthing before 1990 if you ask me. I liked it best when it had the Centerlines or Weld superlites . I think after that they did a cross country drive with it riding on something that looked like mini truck rims. Oh! it also had all the latest B&M goodies at the time -MINI TRUCK WHEELS HAD TO GO!!

    Heard this comment once...

"I love this hammer. I've had it for 35 years. Sure I've had to change the handle a couple of times and it's got a new head but I would never get rid of it."

I've always been a fan of this car. Just having on the cover was incentive enough for me to buy the magazine. I agreed that ol-Yeller needed a make over. It had sat in the corner of a shop with flat tires and a blown engine for years. However, this last Project-X build changed just about every aspect of the car including sliding in a repro chassis / suspension, changing just about every body panel and the whole interior. It's far closer to a billet rod than a bad ass street machine.

Project-X was always the everyman's car. Never too far out of reach but always cutting edge. This isn't the same car, not in any stretch of imagination. Someone sold the car's soul in favor of a current fad and what someone in So-cal thinks is "in". What's next guys??? Going Donk with 44 inch rims?? Just goes to show how out of touch the Popular Hotrodding guys really are.

One last thought... At what point does a restoration become a replication? There are more new major components on this build than original. I bet you could pull out most of the original car from the pile of parts in the back. If someone did that, who would have the real Project-X

i bet it would be a big kick in the ass to the builders of the most recent version if we were to buy it off them, and build it back to how it was in hollywood knights!

You and me both, brother. I swear, I'm not exaggerating one bit, but I get chills when Tony Danza idles up in front of Smitty's, blower screaming, cam loping and all. I think the jackholes that "gold-chained" it up ought to have their asses kicked. Whatta waste...
