  1. your fucking kidding me right?[/quote]

Yup, it'll rotate itself clean out of the fucking car!
Yup we OLD folk are nasty. Is that a mock up? I really hope so, nice stance and lines but needs a LOT of work to be an nice (And safe) car.
Read the rules man for god sake.
    Doc.

    Hehe, Im old!!

  2. OldTimer.... someone with only two posts under his belt is in no position to criticize those who have been here for several years.
Bloody newbies need to read the rules and regulations before they start typing.
tltony... this applies to you too. We dont need to lighten up, this is our board. If you had read the regs you would have realised that the R word is obnoxious to us. Now you've got a basically very good rod happening there, if you take any advice that gets offered in the spirit in which it's offered, you'll end up with a great rod.
BTW: you newbies should realise that we are positive gentlemen compared to what this board was like a few years back. You would have been flayed alive back in the the days of Germ......

  3. Rat Rod! Ugh! I hate that word.

You have a nice ride there. I would consider putting it into paint. Closely traditional.

Ever consider early front juice brakes - would 'spice' it up a bit. :)

Do some searches here on properly mounting up wire wheels. That inner flange is apparently a pretty important part of supporting those wheels.
As for the "I'll let it rotate" comment; geez. I'm speechless on that one.
Here's the deal: if you're looking for a forum to post your work and then watch people line up to have you autograph their t-shirts and thier old ladies titties; you've arrived at the wrong place. Not here. Truth be told, yes, there are some grumpy bastards on here. Lots of 'em. That's the fucking point. If I ain't got some knowledgeable "grumpy" fucker telling me what's wrong with something I've done on my build, then I'm as good as dead. That's how less experienced knuckleheads like myself get hurt: thinkin' I know it all. Or at best, I'm left driving around in something that makes me look like an asshole. If you find somebody asking questions about your hot rod, or offering criticism, then open your ears: you just might learn something. That's why I come here. If I could, I'd buy a beer for every grumpy old (and young) hot-rodder that ever gave me a free lesson on the HAMB. Cheers to every one of 'em.
If you're looking for groupies and blow jobs, look elsewhere. There's plenty of that online.
    Now; about the motorcycle tires.......

  7. Damn man that is well said and some great advice!
    Doc.

  8. I couldn't of said it better myself..
If you want to learn hot rod this this is the place to be, if you want to get a reach around you better go somewhere else.

If you listen up and you might learn a hole bunch of stuff you didn't know,
because behind some of those funny avitars and screen names are some pretty well respected names.

    All -

Marx says, "If you're looking for groupies and blow jobs, look elsewhere. There's plenty of that online."

Really? Then I'm sure he wouldn't mind providing a link or two for some of that "plentiful" action? At 65 year of age, I seem to be having a little trouble getting hooked up with that. (-:

BTW - If everyone is so determined to give the newbies such a ration of crap, how about something a little bit clever or humorous, rather than just shit-stream rants from those who can't get over someone who doesn't view life (or the HAMB) the same as they do? It's one thing to be a crusty, close-minded old fart (like me, for instance), but why be so damn proud of it?

I thought we all agreed to make this a "kinder, gentler" place a few years back. Did I miss the latest memo on cranking up the nasty element? While you're all so adament about having the newbs do their homework before posting, I think it might be advisable for some of the long-timers to take another look at Ryan's class and demeanor with these subjects - and try to emulate that a bit more.

Let's not forget fellas, in the end, it's only Rock and Roll.

Oh, and on the welded steering arms, when anyone asks me about those, I tell them they are Australian parts. I guess that won't work here, but you should see thier expressions as thier trying to sort that one out. :D

by the way, this car was built over a six month period using mostly FLA (found laying around) parts and a $2500. budget.

I'll try to be more respectful.

There's been a lot of talk about motorcycle tires used on cars. I'd really like to know the science behind the problem. Of course, I've heard the things about directional loads, etc, but I can't find (here or on Google) why it's a bad thing. Could someone please post a link or give some insight about this? I've just heard, "It's bad. Don't do it". Or "they're not designed for sideways loading", but I'd really like to see the science. Posting on this thread would be good for the FNG, too. Or maybe start a thread. I tried the search, but came up empty.

The term rat rod is used by guys that are either new to the game of car building or came over from the mini truck world of gay trucks and oakley wrap around sunglasses:)

That's a cool truck and a great look. Keep going on that or not it's your choice, but drive the wheels off it either way. sometimes the best compliment you can get is to hear " when are you going to finish it" 'cause that means somebody likes the way it looks and they just don't understand how much fun it is to have a car you don't need to worry about. Oh yeah nice choice in models, however you have set the bar for yourself and will be expected to repeat this feat every time. I hope you can handle the responsibility.

Don't sweat the RR controversy just consider it part of the learning curve here. We don't build RR's but we have alot of under construction, well thought out, severely engineered, period correct travelling machines. I think yours qualifies here certainly in spirit. RR's are just piles of shit thrown together for the effect of a Circus Clown in a men's bathroom. Curious yet not someplace you want to be standing next too, cause it's creepy and akward.

Welcome to the HAMB it's a wonderful place.

I think education is best. The term that everyone hates...sure seemed to be brought up in this thread over and over. Did everyone read the first three responses or just fire off the asshole attitude?
There also seems to be some confusion on the true definition of a Rat rod, a Hot Rod, a Custom a Era Correct Hot Rod and a street rod.
It takes no effort to be and asshole and cause a negative response. It takes effort to be kind and educate someone.
You also ask yourself. Would you be this much of a asshole to the person if he was in your face? Lets try to be human beings here. The media is trying to convince us the world is falling apart at the seams; let this place be our one haven to BS and talk about cars. After all isn't this site about spreading the Gospel?

Having said all that; let me add this: I love the stance of your truck. It's dead-on! The steel bench seat: very cool. Not every bit of it is my cup of tea (this does not include Santa's little helper, however;)!) ; but who cares? I'm pretty sure you'd hate some detail or other about my cars.
Welcome to the HAMB. Don't let anybody here discourage you from sticking around (that especially includes me!). There's much to learn here, and it sure looks like you've got something to contribute as well. I've eaten plenty of shit on here myself. As you've already seen, it can get fuckin' rough! I think the trick is in sifting through the shit to pick out the mushrooms. Or some such metaphor; I dont' know. I'm no poet. You get the point, though.
As for me; I'd take your girl for a ride in that truck anytime! Though maybe not a fast ride....I need to see more pics of that rear-end configuration first.
Seriously. I actually want to see more pics of that rear-end. (and I do actually mean the truck, ya wise-guys!)

Thanks for the nice followup. This is a rough crowd. You're obviously a portobello.

Thanks also for the comments on the RPU.

Here's an other shot of Santa's helper with a tub that I put together for a good friend.

The seat is actually aluminum. It may look OK but it's uncomfortable as hell. I'll be working with a trimmer (an Aussie named Rod) to get some padding on it without covering up the whole thing.

    2" x .120 4130 cromoly tubing.

The perch is 3/16 cromo plate, all TIG welded.

The front frame horns ( front 6") have been cut off and swapped side for side to make them curve up instead of down.
