Last year I bought this old Tub from justachevyguy on here.

From my understanding, the 27 touring was restored to original in 1951. Then in 1953 the owner purchased a low 29K mileage mint 1940 V8 60 pick up truck and put all the drivetrain, brakes, steering components into the 27 touring. All of that took place in Redwood City CA. The car left RW city around 95.

The owner / builder passed away and the Tub went to Anaheim near Disneyland CA around 1995. I’ve been in contact with a guy called Edward Pond who purchased it around 1996 or 97.Ed gave me the info above but had lost the builders name.
Tub is more or less untouched since 1953.
It had the wheels from the 40 on earlier. The KH came recently.
Lights have been changed both front and back

The front axle is a bit special in shape. May help giving it away.

Would highly appreciate any info or tips on it's early history. Who buildt it?

I will keep it as is with some minor ajustments to make it more 1953. Front shocks with dust covers. Have some 50's S&W gauges that's replacing the 70's stuff in there now, looooose the yellow spark plug cables etc.

    Paul

There was a 26-27 Roadster in Houston for years that was a early 50s conversion. The guy installed a 1940 fullcast block V8-60 and a stock V8 drivetrain and axles. When that engine started smoking I bought it and he installed the V8-60 crate motor he had bought way back when as a spare. Neat car, nice old man. Wonder where it went?

    Sharp eye there.

justachevyguy is a Florida resident. He bought it a couple of years ago from a guy in the eastern part of the US.
This fella, some artist, where the one buying it from Ed Pond.

It was in the classifieds here on the HAMB last spring.

The axle may be a Dago. i don't know. As you see this is flatened.

    Would not think of it.

Only a few minor part swaps. If you see the gauges you understand.
Things that have been put on here after the 50's
    Some 70's S&W.

Engine bay need some tidying up. Hate water flextubes, yellow cables, "some wires lying around", and so on.

The paint and chromed parts has a wonderfull patina. The wheels are a bit to shiny for my liking and they stand out to much in relation to the car itself. ....but some neglect of washing and recless mounting of hubcaps etc. will take care of that. :D

Some old speedparts may find it's way on to the motor. I'm looking for some heads and an intake.
Preferably Eddie Meyer. Feel free to give me a hint guys if ya got any.

I guess I missed this originally. I have no idea of it's origin either but it is super cool. Reminds me so much of the models I'd build as a kid.

This thing just hits my tastes almost perfectly. Nice ride.

WOW! That is one of my all time favorite Fords, you are a lucky guy to own it. Is it on an A ot T chassis? Wonder if it is the yellow car that was on the cover of an early 1950's issue of HONK? I just looked for my copy but it is MIA.

Yes it is Redwood City California. Do you have an idea of where to start a search?
This guy building the car owned up until around 1995, when he most likely passed away at the time. I know nothing about this process, if he sold it or if it was his relatives that passed it on.
If you know anyne that might have some info I'd be more than glad to hear from you.

I looked up that cover photo. It's not the same car. the one on HONK is an earlier model.

    Thanks

Dang it. I think this has just changed the direction of my build again. Now I have to go pull the rpu body and bed off, and put the touring body back on it.

That's a very rare find. Very few touring car hot rods from the period survive, and very few were even documented in the mags and shown in the movies of the time...just enough of them to remind us they existed...not every hot rod was a Duece highboy roadster!

Looks to me (from the very little that I can see of it) that it has the stock T frame. Is the frame beefed-up? Does it flex a lot with the V860? What rearend is under it...the '40 PU?

I'm on the opposite side of the country from Redwood City, California, so I can't help with the owner, but somebody there should know this distinctive hot rod.
