I was born and raised in the Willamette Valley. You don't realize how great one place is until you've been many other places...

This is probably one of the worst times to ever move to find a job with the economy but I heard Wyoming has 3% unemployment. Haven't heard anything on that area though, must be to cold.

Right now it's zero (that's not very many, is it?). I had to fix my snowthrower today, which ate a drive belt after an idler pully shaft seized yesterday, so that was a fun job to do today. I had the wood stove stoked up in the shop, but it was still cold enough to see your breath, and the air lines kept freezing up using the cut off tool, so I came in and am now drinking a glass of wine and wasting time on the computer.

There are reasons California has the most population.

The economy seems a little in the dumps right now though.

I kinda know what you are going through. You yoopers ain't too far from us here in Green Bay. As I get older, I enjoy the snow and cold less and less. If all my family wasn't here, I'd almost be tempted to pack up and head someplace warmer, sure isn't the job market or the high taxes keeping me here. Specially after this weeks 30 below windchills. Last year was a doozy for snow, and this year so far we got hammered even more.
I'd like al gore to try telling me about global warming when I was lying on an icy snow covered driveway with a flashlight for light when I was changing the starter in my truck Wednesday night and the wind and subzero biting in to me. Could only take a few minutes at a time before my fingers and toes would be froze and would have to go in and warm up. Hate to imagine what the windchills were at. No wonder many of the old farts around here fly south for the winter.

But its all better come spring when you see all the snow melting and things turning green. Summer, not too many above 90 degrees extremely humid days, and can't beat how clean the area is, and all the forests and lakes, and doubt a lot of others places 100 to 200 grand would by a decent home with a fair amount of land, and without a neighbor on top of you. No emmision testing our cars. No hurricanes, and thankfully not a bunch of wacked laws like california. Your definately going to find any dry counties (ok I guess ephraim is from a search, where ever the heck that is) in beer central, maybe a bit too big a part of life in this state/area.
I don't think there is a place that will be perfect.
Yeah, its the preferred location for illegal immigrants.:D

If you do not like snow, come to Texas. My kids were 11 before they saw snow, (I took them skiing in Colorado.) It can get hot! Last week it hit the 80's here and was perfect. One word of advice- learn spanish! Good part of that- Mexicans love old cars as much as rednecks, and that is cool.

Anywhere along Gulf Coast... 50-75 miles inland.

Even as I speak I have my feet wrapped up inside a thermal blanket and its 41 degrees right now. Expect 27 before daylight.

I'm 60 miles north of (Houston) the coast. They are about 10-15 degrees warmed because of the gulf breeze.

When it comes to the cold, people form up north laugh at us.
They work and play in this cold because it isn't cold to most of them till after they been here for a while. Then they wear long sleeves.

1/2" snow every 15ish years... but 400 wrecks.

Hot humid summers. break 100 a few times but generally 90-100 mid June through July.

  22. Born in Michigan, will probably die in Michigan. Been & lived down south - Texas, South Carolina, but keep coming back. Nice to go down to Florida in January for a week or so but nice to get back home too. Guess I'm as much Michigan as some of you all are where you come from. Just peeked out the window, 12 below zero and crystal clear with the moon sparkling the frost and snow. Definitely a Carhartt and Stormy Kromer morning. Crank up the Polka music & let's go ice fishing!

My week was the battery on my plow truck wasn't charging so I had it checked, needed a new one, put it in, still not charging, did the screwdriver test on the alt. and needed that also. i put them in and then the next day i am in town and the plow blade won't lift so i have to ride through town with the blade down till i get to a friends garage, was just a wire that came apart at the junction from salt corrosion, easy fix anyway but this crap always happens when it is below 0. By the way, we have over 160 inches of snow already.

I don't think that one could deny that California is the place to be. It is the root of all the good stuff(and Meth and Violent crime). Can't beat the weather and Natural surroundings.
