1978 in Mike Mitchells Revolution Corvette 9.18 @ 153.85 MPH at Fremont dragstrip. Boy that was fun!!! Still got the time slip taped to my tool box!!!
Me and a buddy was picking up a Porshe (?) 911 from Minnesota and got that up to 174 on the speedo before a couple semis were passing each other ahead of us and we shut her down. There was still a bit more throttle to go. With the same car we were going to Chicago to drop it off at a dealer and was cruising about 150 for probably around 5-10 miles. Never got caught luckely.
145.3 at Richard Petty's school at Charlotte! 140+ on the VFR800 passing a garbage truck in the country! I know for a fact that a 1990 Beretta GTZ w/ Quad 4/dohc/HO has an electric fuel cutoff at 130!
All us southern boys know how to do it right....if ya gonna do it, do it where everyone can see!!!!!!!!!
Years ago, driving back home from a meeting, me in my '67 Chrysler Newport and a friend in his '69 Cadillac Eldorado got side by side on a 3 lane highway. Of course one thing let to another and pretty soon the go-pedals were mashed. My Newport still had it's stockish 383 with only a high-vol oilpump. Speeds climbed up to well 125mph with the Caddy on me neck a neck. My Newport has very good suspension and shocks in the rear, but was loosy up front. The car's steering felt like a feather at those speeds. I can't remember if there was a winner out of that contest but it sure was an eye-opener having 2 fullsize cars battling it out at fullthrottle. Later on, same '67 Newport, only this time with a souped up 440ci, solid cam, torker intake, balanced assembly, the works. Also had a 3800 convertor, 3.9 gears in the rear. I was battling it out with a friend of mine in his newer '88 Camaro with highway gears. We would floor it several times from a 70mph roll. Everytime my Newport just walked away from his car, just until I reached about 125mph and my engine 6500 ! Then he came by leaving me behind.
137 in my 02 VW Jetta turbo on the way back from Vegas. And 115 in a Ferrari F430 on Coast Highway in Huntington Beach on the 4th of July. I was driving both times, and got yelled at by my wife both times. But seriously who would borrow a Ferrari and not see what it could do?
burried the needle (140 speedo) in my o/t 01 lightning on 287 not very smart to make matters worse i recorded it on my cell... i traded it in on my dd and now i dont go over 70 http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=4440048
Well, 158 on I-26 coming down Saluda grade, and yes i got clocked......but i been faster in the same car....a well massaged Mustang LX
Don't tell but I Drove had my buddy Mike's '94 CBR900R up to 156mph crossing the floating bridge between Mercer Island and Seattle. All I can say is at 11pm shit comes up on you fast doing almost 160 on a bike taped in 6th. Squeezing the tank so hard I thought it would pop, it was the biggest rush of my life, second to seeing my son be born, but thats a whole other story...
145mph on my 1983 Honda CX650 Turbo. That was in '83 and I don't think I've been over hundred since. Just had to do it.
160 in my old 68 vette road race car many times, that was all it had with the 3.73 gears! Was on the back of a motorcycle with a drunk friend driving about 30 years ago doing 150 Never again!
157 in my 86 928, along I440 in Little Rock. It wasn't nearly as scary as doing 85 in the 63 Falcon...
Heh. I beleive we have an overall winer. If You're going fast enough to worry about "burning up upon re-entry", I think that You got us covered. (either that, or You need to put an Ice cube in there to cool it off...)
125 mph indicated last summer on my 99 Buell M2, thought that Evo was gonna scatter itself all over the highway! 145 mph in my 04' RX-8 GT; she was smooth as glass and tight as a drum. Had the speedo burried at night on a narrow country road in my buddy's 383 equipped 67' Firebird back in high school (1998), all five of us in that car were scared shitless, huddled together in a non-gay sort of way.
wow i thought I was the only idiot to go 140 in a pinto on the ocean parkway on long island mine was a yellow pinto wagon with a 69, 351 windsor ported heads and pumped up c-4 and highway gear in an 8-inch and an empty baby seat in back. oh my white knuckles holding the steering wheel. what a freaking ride I will never forget awesome
Nice to see another 1.8t owner on here. Here's mine: That's right fuck heads, when I'm not building my '29 Tudor Sedan or racing the roadster or belly tank at Bonneville I drive a fucking Volkswagen. Get the fuck over it. Speaking of B-ville, I hold two records in the vintage four banger class that are both over 150 mph. Don't recall my actual one way speeds but they're between 150-160 mph.
Charlotte Motor Speedway.....147...in a retired bush car....Way Cool...corners come up fast.... Est. speed on stright 155/160..
My own car-166 in my 71 Duster track car, 406 stroker smallblock Someone else driving-202 in a Petty clone Hemi Superbird
135 on an open interstate in a stock 1967 Firebird. Wasn't touching the floor yet. Had to measure past the 120mph on the speedo. Even the long sweeping turns had the tires singing. No one with me and no one around. If I was going to die being stupid, didn't want anyone else checking out with me. But it was cool and I lived.
Hoodlum? No, I was 18, trying to impress a beautiful girl. No, I wasn't a hoodlum, I was a fucking idiot.
