I'm a dork also. This was a basket case when I got it. If you live long enough, the new stuff gets old and more desirable. Anybody that blocks out a whole segment of our hobby because you like a particular segment today is a bigot. Be careful your tastes may change. I hated these cars when they were new but I grew up to be a bigger dork than when I was young.

tommy is right. I started out old style hot rodder in the late 50's. Had a '34 PU. When I came home from Vietnam in late '66, I bought this brand new '67 SS. After a few years of buying new tires for the rear, I went back to old style hot rods. I still like musscle cars, but don't intend to own another. Just wasn't me.

I love my hot rod better than any car I've ever owned, in fact, it's the car I've wanted since I was in high school. But, life, money, kids, and all that made me wait 25 yrs. to get it, and a whole bunch of cars in between working my way up to now. IE; Firebirds, Jeeps, Bronco, and all kinds of family rides, then I got my 72' Chevelle about 16 yrs. ago, and I truly loved that car. It was destroyed in one of our tropical storms, a huge tree fell on it. (it was my daily driver for 9 yrs.) On the upside, my coupe was half finished in the garage, and I used the insurance money to finish it, and now I've been driving it daily ever since! Sometimes you just hafta' wait and pay your dues! (I still like big block muscle cars, but not like a hotrod!)

This thread seems like a good place to put down a URL I found this morning regarding musclecars and modificatrions. List of 10 good reasons why you should 'bastardize' your car (plus a bonus reason) Good for a few chuckles and some agreement too. ;-)

Does it really matter, what do you care? And also I think you guys have me mistaken, I love me some "real muscle cars" anything prior to 1973. It's the guys out there that drive 5.0 mustangs and 96' camaros and think they are hot shit that could use some schoolin'. Thats all I meant....

im guilty, although i have primarily old shit. . . my fastest car by far is my 700 rwhp 2003 Cobra. . it has no character, but it does run 10's @ 130 ish, get 22mpg, cruise, air and fries rice without regard (2 wheel and 4 wheel rice). . . .

fast is fast. . . .and cool is cool . .but there is a difference. I know plenty of posers that bought "rat rods" and think they're old school greasers from the days of way back. .

Hahaha, I spent the last 5 minutes over at www.fuelslut.net looking for any video of said burnout, but gave up after a while. No wonder I can't find it, this thread is 4 years old. :)

God damn......who cares how old the thread is....it's still a cool topic to talk about.
What's preferred....bringing up an old thread on a subject someone wants to discuss further, or starting a new one on the same subject and getting crap for not doing a search....

I still dig musclecars....they'll always pull in more TAIL than any hotrod......:D

  21. 4-1/2 year old post and still going strong!!!
There must be things that still need to be confessed i guess or its just a timeless subject.
I could be wrong but,,,, As far as I can remember and everything I have ever read; "Muscle Cars" were the big car motor in the mid-size body style started in 1964 by the factory namely Pontiac and the GTO. The mustangs, camaros, and firebirds were called Pony Cars started by Ford's affordable "chick" car the Mustang marketed towards the secretary.
People, Rodders had been doing motorswaps for years on there own before the factory did it and they called them Hot-Rods. The Factory did motor swaps on new iron and they call them Muscle Cars. This was a direct imitation of that back-yard mechanic, hood, greaser, whatever building what he could with what ever he could get his hands on. Most of what he built was, Raw, Scary and Rough Around the Edges and unaceptable by the average suburban population. The factory with its unlimited resourses made it more main stream and desirable to the average joe by polishing it and marketing the concept.

Muscle Cars died in 1972!! The "Pony Car" lived on to what it has become today. Some of it is quite impressive but in no way a muscle car. Call them what you will

By definition the factory can not ever build you a hot-rod. They can get you going fast, provide a means to execute your need for conspicuios comsumption and give you a warranty on your PONY CAR , but if you want a hot-rod you need to build it. Some say it needs to be out of 1964 or earlier iron, why, because the Factory started doing it in 64.

As long as they are American made cars, that's all that matters to me. I'm interested in anyones car, always something to learn.

theres no help for me..and gladly no cure

  27. Yeap, me too! Alot of the pioneers of the hot rods took what they learned on other machinery and applied it to their cars. I'm sure some of it came from being/seeing what was in europe for WWII.

I'm going to bet that the first guy to run down the street without fenders caught a bunch of shitfor that too !!

  28. VERY interesting question. I don't know what "us" means. About 7 years ago, I admired some of "your" cars from the outside, so to say. Tatooed, greaser types, with their jalopy Hot Rods would look at me like I was from Mars or something. That was, until they saw that I had similar taste in cars. Now, it's hey Groucho. But, before, it was, lets stop talkin and see what this fool's looking at:D. But, it sure seemed the tattoo "thing" was a sacred bond of sorts. Example-I'm drivin my Gasser Willys up to the Hot Rod Reunion a few yrs ago. I come up on a bunch of traditional rods. Hemi powered "A" w/spindle mounts and no brakes up front, etc. They all givin me the thumbs up. We cruise together for about 20 miles, revvin motors and poppin clutches at eachother.....Later in the day I see them all parked at the finish line area at the drag strip. I'm lookin at their cars up close, and these guys are lookin at me strange. Then I say, I'm the guy in the Gasser Willys on the freeway this morning. Now it's oh cool, man did you build it, what's in it, wanna beer...? I better get a tattoo for when I leave the car behind:eek:

  29. Does having a hot rod and muscle car cancel each other out? Maybee I'm OK.

  30. H, my name is Eric and I'm an alcoholi------I meen muscle car dork.:DSorry, wrong meeting.
