There was a person that ran a 65 or 66 Black Biscayne just like this one in thread #498 and # 504 but don’t think the car was never littered. It seemed to be at Farmington Dragway N.C. every weekend. It was a great car. I never new what happened to it. Maybe Bob Rice from thread # 504 knows the car or anyone other then me remember this car and who drove/owned it?
colesy - I'll pass your comments along to Charlie. Last night I found more negatives from the early 1970's. Here are some color shots that did not hold up well from a Jr. Stock race that I talked the management at US 13 in holding. Unfortunately, the negative of Ed Hamburger (event winner) was damaged and could not be scanned.
What was Ed driving then Tom? I 'thought' that he went from his '56 Pontiac to Super Stock (340) Mopars! His son 'checked in' here a few weeks ago, but it would have been nice to hear from (*as Honest Charlie used to say) ... ED 'Hisself'! *Its really not that Ed 'photographs poorly,' this is a shot of the original image I took (@ York, I 'think') 1971-ish. I really should break down and spring for a scanner!
I used to have a '59 Impala Conv. with a 348, but it was a street car. Since I don't have any photos with a date on it, I'm not sure if it was '71 or '72. I do remember that Ann Towes was driving a '69 Camaro and not the '58 Sedan Delivery if that helps with the date.
Here are a few photos of the awards given at US 13 by owner Bill Cathell. This must have been a year that we did not have a banquet.
John Jodauga needed a proof reader! Was it Casler, Caster or Caller? Thanks for the article, I didn't know that Bill Casler was involved with Hooker.
Here's a great Div I car image I just stumbled upon while looking for something else ... no info where I found it ... Tom? Vern? Bob? Colesy?
Looks like a Maple Grove regular, but I don't know the car. Must have been using one of the GER welded clusters for a lower first gear. I think that was before GER got into automatics.
Looks like you've now posted most of the 'good' years Bill ... Thanks! By the way, I see that Bill (Spider) Spanakos posted a 14.16 (@96.97) on the final. I know, in its 'day,' that *it (*both I and II cars) saw thirteen second times, but I wonder about what its very-best ET and MPH was. Did it ever post a twelve second run? Come on Spider ... tell us!
Quickest Ive heard was a 13.34 @ 120.50. Don't ask which race but I believe that was the II car (150 sedan)
Marv Ripes and Big John. Not sure where Marv's picture was taken but I believe the Big John shot was at the 68 Winternats
Yep, the progress was amazing during that era. In December of 67 the I/Stock national record was 13.97 @ 99 mph and by April 68 it was 13.11 @ 104 mph
Would you happen to know the H/Stock and I/Stock records for '68 and '69? -Dean
The last pic posted of the Monster Mash 55 Chevrolet, anyone else notice the seat belt "hanging" out the door? Now that's Tech/NHRA! And by the way, this thread is HAMBtastic! Butch/56sedandelivery.
Butch, you are right about that!! I check this site daily (sometimes more) and the pictures and stories are fantastic. T. McCrea and you other guys, thanks so much for sharing the pictures too. I have taken to printing them off to hang in the garage.Gotta tell you, there are plenty hanging up out there.... It may not bring those days back but I can piece together a lot of what it was like......Thank you.
I thought it was a wagon that was painted the same as the SD that was wrecked ???? Yes? No? Maybe ???
I think I paid the Wheatley's $600 for this car with the Hydro, minus engine, headers, wheels & tires back in the Fall of 1970.
Thanks! Tension rested not far from our In-Bomber, which is currently being restored. I've seriously been considering re-creating the Tension car lately...it would be a fun project and not terribly hard to pull off. I've talked with Fred Anderson but haven't been able to reach Don Stephenson yet, who should certainly be aware if a replica of his car was to be built... -Dean
... a 'must have' for some of our members Send "Sedan Delivery" Ringtone to Cell Phone "I'm thinkin' of no one in my mind -- Sedan Delivery is a job I know I'll keepIt sure was hard to find -- hard to find ... hard to find!" To all curremt stocker and former stock racers, Jack Worrell was in touch with me last week. He is looking for a color picture of his geen Ford Fairlane convertible that he rasn in the 60's/70's The name on it was "King Cobra". can anyone help with this? Like most racers he was to busy racing to take any pictures. We can't all be like Lil George!!! Dominick Rinaldi
Hey Tom. Here's an article that mentions the Wheatleys you'll like.
Thanks colesy. That was probably written by a guy named Gene Wharton. He used to do the weekly results for the track and sent them to National Dragster and Drag Times. Barbara Bishop, Tim's wife, took over the duties for a bit and I followed her in 1970 & '71. My girlfriend, later my wife, used to go to the track with me every Sunday and then had to sit in the car and wait while I dropped the film off for processing. I had a gentleman, who was probably in his 70's, do the film for me so I could pick up prints on Monday after work and get them in the mail. He used to keep me for at least an hour telling stories. My poor wife had long Sunday's back then.
Dom, I noticed Jack's car in a couple of shots that I scanned this week. One from the Atco WCS meet in 1970 and the other waiting to enter the track at Englishtown for the 1971 Summernationals. In the last shot, the only other car I recognize, besides your's, is Bill Cornelius.
Interesting shot Tom! Any idea who's 'striped roof' car that is behind the 67/8 Mustang and in front of the '60 Chev Wagon?
